Online dress shopping?

How reliable are the online dress shops?  I found the perfect dress at NY Bride and Groom; and then found it for a fraction of the price on numerous websites.  Most of the dresses I have seen in the shops aren't made in the USA unless they're couture; so is it worth the risk to find the same dress online?  The wedding isn't until next June.  Thanks for any advice!

You'll want to look at the designers website to see if these sites are authorized vendors. Generally, those very cheap sites are knocking off dresses and you might get something totally unlike what you expect. Google Brides Beware for some examples.

You could try pre owned wedding dress sites to find a deal. Other knotties also recommend Pearl's Place as a reputable online shop.

  • Most USA designers use Chinese factories to manufacture their designs, but they have representatives that supervise this to their standards.  On-line knock-off shops have no quality control.  You don't know what you will get for your money, and refunds are almost impossible, no matter what they claim.
Unless the designer of the dress you want is Maggie Sottero, you might be able to order it from a reliable USA discount service like Pearl's Place, RK Bridal, or Netbride.com.  These places generally require that you telephone them in person to place an order.  The dresses are the authentic dresses you see in your local bridal shop.  If you haven't actually tried on the dress, they won;t want to sell it to you because, like any bridal shop, all sales are final.
If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
