What To Wear For Engagement Pics,...

So my FI and I weren't really planning on doing engagement pics but then a photographer approached us to take them for free a few weeks ago so she can use them for her portfolio!  Now on November 15th, we are doing a shoot in Central Park.  I have no idea what to wear!  I'm sure I'll rock my leather motorcycle jacket because I'm obsessed with it but other than that, I'm at a loss.   I was thinking of maybe doing a dress with tights and boots but what color?  Is white weird?  What did you wear for yours?  Any tips for mine?

I wore 2 outfits (took them around this time last year so similar weather).
Outfit 1: Jeans, leather flats, white blouse and a green cardigan - the green was a fall-ish green. Looked crisp, simple and photographed well.
Outfit 2: Maroon-colored flower-patterned day dress with same green sweater from Outfit 1.

TBH, I liked the way the pictures came out from outfit 1 much better than outfit 2. But both outfits were cute :)

Wear whatever you are comfortable in! For me, I knew I would have more engagement pictures up than wedding in the end. So I wanted more timeless outfits that weren't particularly trendy or anything. More simple and solid colors. I think a leather jacket would be awesome, especially if it is something you really love!

One outfit was a navy, flowy, collared dress that hit above the knee (FI wore a light yellow polo and jeans with this)

One outfit was a cream colored, quarter sleeved shirt, sort of fit loosely, with skinny jeans that were rolled above my ankles. (FI wore a green polo with slacks for this)

ETA: our pictures were outside, in a lawn area of a historical site in our city. So the pictures had very manicured, bright green landscapes, with crisp lines and colors. Our simple outfits fit the area very well.

  • Personally, FI and I wanted the pics to reflect our regular style, we didn't want to wear anything  ormal. We took our pics in early October, and I wore gray skinny jeans, tall black boots, and a blueish purple mesh sweater thing, with a yellow tube top underneath (since the sweater alone would have been too see through). FI wore dark blue jeans, shoes, and a blueish purple polo long sleeve shirt.

I think I'll post mine later today, I think I figured out a way to do it without the flash drive I'm waiting for.

  • We went super casual (we took ours during the summer). We both wore dark jeans. H wore a button down linen shirt. I wore a v-neck short sleeve shirt with wedges and some cute jewerly.
  • Yeah I'm worried it'll be cold by then!  I am usually a skinny jeans and boots, or a long sweater dress with tights and boots.  We won't be able to change outfits so I think I'm leaning towards a dress because my jacket only comes to my waist and a shirt sticking out under would look weird.

We are hoping for some colored leaves to still be on trees so maybe black jacket, neutral colored sweater dress and black tights/boots?

    STUCK

This outfit sounds awesome. And I think by November you guys will definitely get some nice colored leaves at Central Park!

After much, much deliberation, I wore blue pixie pants from Old Navy and a white shirt with a little lacy detail at the collar, with both teal keds-type sneakers, and brown tall boots.  For my second outfit I wore a navy dress with berry colored tights and switched again between tan flats and the tall boots.

He wore darker jeans with loafers and oxford button downs with two different sport coats.

ETA: This was in the first week of October, and I wouldn't get away without a sweater now, so good thinking bringing the coat in 2 weeks!

Sorry for the nearly identical poses but they show the outfits the best!

ETA I wanted to wear clothes that were "us" and not too forced/formal. We're not particularly trendy people so that wasn't a risk. ;) We wore colors that we like since those will likely always be a part of our home design scheme, but if they're not we'll print in black and white.

    I think that sounds great.
  • Just some experiences I had with our photos: FI wore a plaid shirt for some and the plaid showed up weird in the photos. I was told (after the fact, of course) to avoid little patterns.

For some of the pictures we tried to dress up a little, and were wearing stuff that was out of the norm for us. You could tell we were uncomfortable cuz the expressions on our faces were weird in the photos and we both looked kind of stiff.

My favorite photos of us ended up being the ones where we just wore normal outfits that we liked. We looked like our normal selves and were way more comfortable, and ended up getting one photo that is so awesome and I love it! (I mean we got a few good ones, but there's one in particular that I'm obsessed with).

The super posed photos all turned out bad for us. We laughed hysterically at a few (like the one where the photographer had FI dip me backwards and kiss me, and I look super tense with the oddest expression on my face). The more candid-ish photos were the best, but that's just me. Some people are good at posing and still looking natural. I'm way too awkward lol

  • I wore a navy, lace dress with an orange belt. H wore jeans and an orange shirt. We also brought black coats to do a "second outfit".

  • We had 3 outfits (our photographer was super awesome).

First one - I was in a light blue dress with red jewelry & red heels.  H was in a red dress shirt and black slacks.

Second outfit - Texans shirts (since we're both fans)

Third - casual shirt / crops and he wore a casual shirt with shorts.

I posted pics of mine earlier this week. I will not hestiate to whore them more. I had one dressy outfit, and one outfit I would wear out to the bars (Skinny jeans, heels and a black lacy top.)

I don't wear a lot of color because I am a colorful person already.

  • I think the leather jacket sounds awesome! For mine I wore jeans, brown riding boots, a black tee, and a rusty red denim jacket that I've had forever. My FI wore his fav jeans, work boots, and a regular shirt. We both looked like we were just going out to dinner for date night, nothing special but really us. That way when we were posing cheesy for the photo shoot, we still felt comfortable.
