NWR: Urban Decay Naked Palette?

I'm thinking about buying one of the Naked palettes but I can't decide which. Anyone have any of them? What's your colouring like? I've heard the first one is better for warm tones and Naked 2 is better for cool tones, while the Naked 3 is rose and might work for either.

I can never figure out if I'm "warm" or "cool". I have a lot of rosy pink in my skin and my veins look blue, not greenish, but I have very warm blonde hair (more gold than ash), hazel eyes, and while I mostly burn I think I tan kinda yellow.

I wear a lot of neutral shades in my eye makeup and I really can't tell by looking which of the Naked palettes looks most like what I wear. If anyone has any personal experience with them, please share!

Re: NWR: Urban Decay Naked Palette?

  • I am pale with pinkish tones I guess. Green/brown eyes, medium brown hair. Naked 1 and Naked 2 work well on me. I didn't bother with naked 2, since by the time I had an interest in it naked 3 was about to come out and it was more of a rosy brown palette that would work better with my colors.

You'd probably do well with 1 or 3 based on your description.

  • I'm a pale and freckly ginger, and I adore my Naked 2 palette. Most of the shades in Naked 1 look nice on me too, and most of Naked 3 is questionable. Rose gold on me is just overwhelming combined with my hair, I think.

I use this palette pretty much every single time I wear makeup (usually just weekends). A++, highly recommend.
  • I don't wear makeup but my best friend is obsessed with the first one. I got her 3 for part of her bridesmaids gift and she says she really likes it. She has darker olive skin.

  • I have all 3 and I think the first and third are my favorites. I've used up almost all of the N1 pallete. I know right now there is a UD vault package thing out where it has all 3 naked palettes, all 3 naked basics, 3-4 double ended eyeliners, and 3-4 lip glosses for $280 which is SO worth it! All of the naked related makeup in the line is amazing. By far my most used and I have ALOT of makeup due to a friend who's a makeup artist passing on over half of her makeup kit to me when she decided to go back to school for nursing. But if I had to suggest just 1 buy the 3rd the colors are gorgeous and complement all skin tones IMO. Also keep your box and receipt and if you don't like it exchange it.

  • I had 2 and currently have 3.  I'm a spring, blonde with platinum and purple highlights, fair skin that tans nicely and either yellow or pink undertones, depending on the light.  2 was nice, but not quite right.

I got 3 when it came out and it was PERFECT for me.  I gave my 2 to my best friend, who is a winter with darker skin with yellow undertones, and dark hair.  She loves it.

  • I have 3 (FI actually picked it out) and I really like it. I'm pale with brown hair/eyes and the pink tones worked surprisingly well. There's also enough brown/tan tons to mix it up. Love Urban Decay in general.

If you're near a Sephora/Ulta, you can probably go in and have a employee help you pick out the palette that matches your skin tone.

  • I suggest going in and asking what they think. I have the Naked 1 and I love it. I've had it since it came out and my favorites are finally starting to go and some I never use. I wish you could buy refills.
  • I have the 2 and the 3- brown hair, brown eyes, somewhat normal colored skin. I use them every single day. They seem a bit $$, but I think they are worth it.

My understanding is that 1 and 2 are somewhat similar, then the 3 is totally different (rosier vs. lots of browns).

FWIW, the Urban 25/7 eyeliner is also amazing and the only eyeliner I ever wear.

  • This was really helpful. I went with the Naked 3 thanks to the comments.

I briefly considered actually asking someone at Sephora, but then I would have had to, you know, talk to someone. I had to take advantage of my Sephora VIB 20% this weekend - it's on until Monday if anyone else has VIB or VIB Rouge status, ps.

I grabbed a new Urban Decay setting spray too - that stuff is AMAZING. Urban Decay is one of my favourite makeup brands but I've always worn Stila shadows before so I'd never bought a Naked palette before.

  • I wanted to buy one for my wedding!!! I was thinking I would go with 2. I have rosy skin sometimes, red hair and blue grey eyes. I can usually pull off warm and cool colors

  • Im vampire pale (Sephora described me as having pink undertones, neither warm or cool) with light brown eyes and chestnut brown hair.  The Naked 3 palette is my go-to everyday palette.  I like the brush it comes with too.

I switch my primer loyalty though. UD Primer potion is great but Too Faced Shadow Insurance helps my uber greasy lids better.  I find that UD shadows stay put really well on their own though.

I loved my Naked 1 palette and my coloring sounds really similar to OP's.... I left it in a hotel room and it mysteriously was never turned into lost and found (uh huh) and I replaced it with the Naked 3. I think I liked the Naked 1 best though. I tried the Naked Basics palette, but hated that all the colors were matte. I need a matte/shimmery mix, for sure. I returned it to Sephora for a full refund... gotta love Sephora's no questions asked refund policy if colors don't work out... I rarely use it, but when I do, I love it.
  • I would get Naked 1 or Naked Basics. I have both of those and love them. I find that 1 has the largest variety between shades, so it's a great go-to palette to start with. 2 didn't particularly interest me, and I wasn't crazy about all the pinky/rose colors in 3. A lot of people had issues with color payoff on 3 when it first came out, but Urban Decay might have fixed the issue by now. My friend bought it and had to return it and the sales associate told her a lot of people were bringing them back.

  • I am very pale, but with olive undertones. I have brown hair and brown eyes. I own all three Naked palettes and absolutely love them.  1 and 3 are my favorites.  I also own Shadow and Vice 2, although I usually only break those out for super dramatic makeup.  They are all fantastic.  Great pigmentation and if you use their eyeshadow primers they are flawless and last all day.  Vice 2 honestly hasn't been my favorite palette, but as a general rule you can't go wrong with Urban Decay.

  • I bought the Naked 2 palette for my wedding. I have light brown hair, blue eyes, pale skin and freckles. I have blue veins; does that mean I'm "cool toned"? I could never figure that out.

Anyway I just used the Naked 2 palette last night when we went out for my bday and I really liked it :) FI liked it too! Perfect colors. I don't think you could go wrong with any Urban Decay product. That and Benefit are my most favorite makeup brands ever.

  • I love the Naked 3 palette-- it's what I used for the wedding and I got a ton of compliments on my makeup. LOVE UD!
  • I have the Naked 1 and use it every single day. I really want the Naked 3 because the colours look different enough to justify getting another one ;)

  • I have all 3 (and every other UD palette ever.)  Honestly 1 and 3 are my favorites, I find 2 can be a bit harsh and very similar to 1.  I love that 3 is a bit more rosy however if you are someone who wear more red or purple lipsticks, then I would go with 1!  My blog readers always liked 1 and 3 the best if that helps also!

  • I have the Naked 1 and the Naked Basics.  Love them both, I haven't tried any of the others, as I'm afraid the rosy tones in the Naked 3 may make me look tired.  I have a neutral skin tone.  Not warm or cool which makes foundation matching a blast! haha

  • I have Naked 1, Naked Basics and Naked 3.  I love the colours of Naked 3, but the shadow quality seems not to be as good as Naked 1.  Basics wasn't an ideal purchase for me, as I don't wear matte shadows very well.
