You may recall that when SIL was in rehab (pills), she hooked up with another patient and got knocked up. (BTW, "Knocked Up At Rehab" would be a decent concept for a reality show, IMO.) Niece is now 2-1/2. As far as we know, SIL has stayed clean, but the dude has not. She got pregnant again, they got married this summer, baby was born last month. Her now-H is off the wagon again, got a DUI a few days after the baby was born, and last week got into some drunken fight with some guys at a gas station at 3 a.m. and they stole his car.
SIL has always been kind of a hot mess, but good lord, she needs to DTMFA. I don't care if he's her kids' father. And I'm not one of those people who thinks addiction = bad character, I really do think it is a type of disease, but I also know that her H is not where he needs to be right now to be a good father or partner. But FIL really had nothing to do with her when she was growing up, she has daddy issues, and unfortunately she is one of those "any man is better than no man" kind of women. It was one thing when she was the only one dealing with the consequences of her choices, but now there are two kids involved. If you don't get your shit together for yourself, then do it for them, you know?
