How's your day going?

Mine. Eh. Not so great.

H has his own business, but one of his clients wants to hire him on full time as a project manager. He's been working at the Bronx Zoo for the past two weeks. So, he's working this job AND maintaining his business. He got home last night at 1am. I feel like I barely see him anymore.
We're going down to Florida in February for his step-grandma's surprise birthday party. H was going to book the tickets, but now with this job, he's got no time. Since MIL and my mom are now besties, my mom is coming with us too. Can I just tell you how annoying it is to book plane tickets for 3 people? Especially when one person is so busy at work they can't give you ANY input. Naturally I'm also trying to keep the cost down, so I'm looking at 4 airports and trying to book within the times everyone wants. Kill me now.

I finally pick a flight out of Newark for a Friday afternoon, a time I think that will work. But the return flight is 8am Sunday. So I decide to choose the 10am return flight. It adds $72 to the cost of each ticket. Awesome. Any another later flights like 12 or 1pm adds more than $100.

I book it and I tell my MIL. She's now disappointed that we're leaving so early on Sunday because she wanted to have breakfast with us.

Anyway, I'm taking a spin class for the first time tonight and I'm excited.

Re: How's your day going?

  • My day is going well. Spending one last day chilling with my husband until he leaves again until Valentine's Day. He needs to get off the sofa, though, and go get me eggs I need for the pie I'm going to make. I've asked him to do it because I'm always the one running out, stopping to pick up, etc, and I don't feel like going this time, dammit. It's going to be hard to go back to work tomorrow after a week off, knowing I'm off again for 2 weeks in a week and a half.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • My dad is pretty average.   Work is kind-of slow.   Right now I'm surfing the web trying to decide on a pair of goggles for DH as a gift.  Or maybe a ski rack.  IDK? He is hard to buy for.

DH just told me I was invited to the club's director's holiday excursion on Jan 7th.  That is in additional to the club employee party tomorrow and the F&B dinner next week.   They sure like their employee parties.

The excursion is a 2 day event. They are taking us to Denver Nuggets vs Orlando Magic game in Denver.  It's nice they invited me, but it's on a Wednesday. Which means I miss 2 days of work.  Not a big deal, my boss doesn't care, but I do not get PTO.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I hate scheduling flights, they are the worst! My day has been going ok. I woke up early to study for an exam and then went to one of my finals. It was mainly people presenting projects so it wasn't a final at all. I went to work for a bit and studied again for an other hour. Now I'm eating lunch and relaxing before my next exam.

Afterwards my group will FINALLY finish our paper and sudmit it. I've told myself 5 PM is the cutoff on working on this paper. That will give me 5-6 hours of more study time. It's been a long day.

  • Mine was pretty good until I overheated my lunch and burned my mouth. Owwie :(

  • Ugh Addie and Climbing I'm sorry you're missing so much husband time, that sucks.

My day is just rotten because I hate my job. And I was stuck in a 3 hour all-co meeting this morning that was supposed to be a rah-rah company love fest and I just sat there scowling. I should be catching up on work now but instead I'm at Panera gorging on mac and cheese.

  • Im trying to make the best of my day. I'm stuck in bed but I'm watching SOA, drinking yummy tea, and playing on the Internet. Since I've been laying around so much I've managed to get my Christmas shopping done via Amazon.
  • I'm actually having a great day.

Got up early and did my workout this morning. Which is so out of character for me. I'm a grumpyhead non-morning person. But now I feel awesome because I don't have to do it when I get home!

Also, we had a staff meeting at work and they brought in a tray of cookies and gave me a set of engraved glass beer mugs to recognize me for being with the company for a year. I was pretty shocked. I'm curious as to what they give you at an important milestone!!

  • It's the second day of my new job. Found everything to be blocked on the laptop (Even Gmail MFers...) but not The Knot. hahaha fools.

So far though, unsure of why I had to start this early. Monday I worked 7 hours, today most of my team is gone on a team outing but since I'm a contractor, I'm not invited since I'm technically not part of the company. So now I'm sitting by myself trying to bide time until 4pm when I'll leave again.

But hey. I've got a job.

  • I'm in a rage today.

It's pouring rain and disgusting to I was soaked and freezing by the time I got to work.  I had some d-bag in Starbucks call me a "rude little bitch" for pouring the non-fat milk in my coffee when he didn't even have the top of his off.  Was supposed to meet a florist today but they cancelled because of the weather.  I sliced my finger open last night with a knife and it hurts like hell so now I'm afraid to take off my nail polish later because it will burn.  I have a hard time sleeping in general but I haven't gotten more than a couple hours a night for the last week so I"m exhausted and have a migraine.  And my FI is working like crazy lately so once again I will be having dinner home alone (because no one wants to go out in this weather.)

At least I have brownies.  And wine.

  • Blurg. Dirty old bitty co-worker has been rampaging all day. And since I'm the default door-answerer around here (nobody else does it), I opened the door for one of our senior execs. Not only have I had to let him in a dozen times in the past couple of weeks since his Audi died (he has to replace it! Poor thing!! And he left his access card in there!), but today he rang the doorbell, then started yanking on the door, and then rang it again AS I WAS OPENING IT in a span of 10 seconds, which is how long it takes me to get from my desk to the front door. I opened it, smiled and said "Hi!" I then turned and walked away because my phone was ringing, and he says "As she rolls her eyes haha!" This dude is such a bag of shmarm and he drives me crazy and I really can't stand him. He's an absolute jerk face who tries to be "one of the gang" and has no clue how out of touch he is with the 99%. I resent the implication that I rolled my eyes. I have resting bitch face, and I roll my eyes often, but I wait until I'm safely ensconced in my cube before I do that shit. I'm smart enough not to roll my eyes at a senior exec!
  • Today is such  an ugly day. The weather is terrible, rainy and windy which means my drivers are moving at all time slow pace. I swear their sole purpose for existing is to make my job harder and frustrate me to no end. Now I know why people have told me that I am too nice to be a dispatcher. At least I have take out and Tomb Raider to look forward to when I get home :)

Random question, AddieCake- what does your H do?

  • My day's going okay. It's cold and gloomy out. Tonight I usually have two classes but because it's finals and only one of my classes needs to meet, of course it's the later class. So between 4, which is when I usually go to my first class and finish my main job for the day, and 6, when my second class starts, I pretty much have nothing to do. And for some reason, right after lunch I got really, really sleepy.

  • It is cold, wet and gross here. The subway was PACKED this morning, which is never a good way to start the day.

My man-child of a boss and I got into a snarky email exchange that made me pissy. I have a meeting across the street in a little while, which I will use as an excuse to get Starbucks. I have a holiday party tonight, but I hate leaving the house in this kind of weather.

On the plus side, I leave for my honeymoon on Saturday!!

Today isn't half bad so far. I actually got up early and rode my bike for 90 minutes. And I've been really productive at work today. Also, I just realized I only have 2 more weeks of work before I get 3 weeks off!
  • My day is going pretty well so far. I had a meeting this morning that went by really fast. Then I found out that I will be travelling for work often (only like once a quarter but that is a lot for me) in the upcomming year so I am excited for that.

H just texted me and told me that he got off of work early and cleaned the entire apartment. That makes me way happier than it should!

  • Today is frustrating. They are migrating our email at work, and migrated my personal email last night. By doing that I am no longer able to send emails from other department mailboxes I have access to because those weren't migrated. That is a huge problem because one of them deals with highly time sensitive stuff that involves phone calls from various state entities. The response I got from IT was that the other mailboxes would be moved on the timeline they were on but they would "try" to move it up. Gee thanks.
  • I'm having a first world problem day.  FFIL called to tell us he booked us a trip to  Vegas for the week following the wedding (YAY!) but then he tells us he's coming, bringing his wife/girlfriend... (we're not entirely sure because his facebook says one thing and hers says married... so not sure) and her two twin girls who I absolutely can NOT stand. They make fat jokes at me all the time and snide remarks.  So FI and I decided we'd politely decline... except as we go to tell them they tell us about all these non-refundable things. Looks like I'm honeymooning with the inlaws. Which is where the first world problem comes in - free airfare and hotel
  • I have so much to do and very little motivation to do it. Everyone is saying it's really warm in our office, but I am FREEZING. Numb toes and blue fingers. I have on a giant sweater and am sitting with my feet tucked under me with a fleece blanket on. And they're predicting another bad winter. Of course. I mean, don't people understand that I can't work in the cold?!

  • Sooooo good! (I said that in a voice from teen girl squad, from the Strongbad cartoon.)

    SITB:

I love Teen Girl Squad!!! I haven't thought about that in forever! Thank you for referencing it!
  • @mikenberger You might want to try downloading an obscure browser like Opera and seeing if you can access your sites.  My company doesn't block anything on Opera.

My day is going alright.  Last night FI's cousin (he sees her about once a year, she only texts him when she needs something) emailed me asking if plus ones are allowed.  Our wedding is really small, and there was no "plus 1" on her invite. I think she's been dating a guy for a few months.  I wrote back saying no.  Then today I felt bad so I texted her and said I was in a lousy mood last night and of course her guy is invited.  No response.  Aaaaaah.

Tonight I'm going to a "kinda-DIY-frame-shop" to mount a print I bought for FI for Christmas.  It's an aerial of FI's favorite lake in Maine.  So that should put me in a better mood....

  • I am now singing the Trogdor song @ohannabelle, so thank you!

I have a headache and I want to eat everything in my house. The weather sucks shit right now, and I just want to be in Hawaii, filthy rich, and thin.

I'm going to crank the heat, put on Melikaliki Maka, and pretend, dammit.

  • Ugh. So we use Box for file-sharing at work (yes, snicker away)... I was supposed to update this project log earlier today but didn't have time cuz I was stuck in meetings, and was just getting to it at 5pm when everyone was calling and emailing to harass me about it. Fine, fine, I'm going... nope, Box finally got on board with my name change today, but thinks Lolo S is a different person than Lolo L. Lolo S can't access any of the same share folders as Lolo L could. Lolo L has access to zero things. FUCK A DUCK. Now I'm stuck at work waiting for the PM to get home so she can log back on and re-share everything with Lolo S.

  • My DH is so funny.  He sent xmas packages to the house.   I work from home.    He could easily ship things to his work, but noooo.    He tells me not to look at the packages.    Umm, I work from home. I'm the one who receives the packages.  Ones I've ordered myself.

So far I know I'm getting something from VS and Macy's.   There is another package coming in the mail too.  Not sure the place yet, but he told me NOT to look at the company name.   Umm, I've mailed stuff here too.  Kind-of need to see where it's from to see who it's for.

Oh lord BOUNDARIES ARE NEEDED! Haha every single event with your in-laws, no alone time with your new spouse? Good luck. Make out frequently.

I think I went back in time. One of my old people I swore was dead for four months- I see her wandering around in the hallway today. I stopped in my tracks with bug eyes, and ran away to my computer to look up her death certificate. I swore I filled it out and had the doctor sign it. I thought I did that. No certificate, I did not see hide nor hair of her for months, I didn't hear anything about her. I told my coworker this story who somehow doesn't believe I'm crazy and assured me that I was mistaken and she wasn't dead. I'm glad she thought it was a funny story and didn't think I needed to be locked up. There is just no way someone lived in the building for this long and I never saw or heard about them. I don't know.

    The fuck though.

  • It's the final exam for the course I TA today so I've been sitting watching the students write the exams for almost 2.5 hours. The instructor didn't remember to print off the exams so I had to run back to my office, print them, then run back to the exam room 15 minutes before the exam started. The main road I take to work is closed for construction all month, which means traffic is a nightmare. I usually leave work before rush hour starts but the exam ends just at the end of rush hour so I'll have to sit in a ton of traffic on the drive home.

  • Today was awful. As soon as my boss walked in I heard shit BC the other girl LOVES to try and throw me under the bus. It was super cold and rainy. I was a few mins late and caught looks about it. I'm not trying to kill myself (or my baby) to get to work on time in bad weather. Sorry! They don't know I'm pregnant yet so I'm sure that will change things. Anyway everyone was getting on my nerves and the day dragged on and on. Maybe it was all hormones. Hopefully tomorrow is better. These short weeks are supposed to be easy!
