SOS! Need gift help!

Re: SOS! Need gift help!

  • Is there a show he likes to re-watch a lot? DVD sets would do well here.

He needs a new helmet, since his old one shattered when he landed on his damn head. I wish he'd use something to mount his phone to the handlebars so he doesn't need to fish for it in his pocket again and hit another pot hole, but that's just crazy talk. ;-)

  • A hoodie with his favorite sports team on it, a wireless speaker (Costco has one for $30), a GameStop gift card, nose bleed tickets to a sporting event...that's all I got right now.

    BINGO!  There's you gift idea!

We're going to the Lions/Bears game on Sunday for his birthday, so that's already used up (along with a Lions hat and blanket to stay warm). :-p We collectively have 3 Bluetooth Bose speakers.

    BINGO!  There's you gift idea!

I've suggested it to him (when I bought one for my dad) but he scoffed at the idea. :(

I got a phone mount for Fi's bike and he loves it.  And they aren't expensive.

"I'm not a rude bitch.  I'm ten rude bitches in a large coat."

  • God, he sounds hard to shop for. My husband is easy: I get him a bottle of nice scotch (although that's a little higher in terms of budget).

Is there something for your home that would benefit both of you? You could then go over budget.

Finally, there's one tried and true method ... "Hey, hubby, give me a list of things you might like for Christmas. Now."

  • @phira‌ he really is!

We got all the home stuff we could ever need for the wedding. :-/

  • Could you get him a profissional shave? You know with the whole hot towel and straight razor? Or what about a massage?
  • Since you'll be in Chicago this weekend, maybe you could do something splurge-y, like take him to a really nice steak restaurant that runs about $50/pp.

Of course, that runs the risk of being a birthday/Christmas combo gift, since the Chicago trip is his birthday gift. :-/

Maybe he'll point some stuff out while you walk up/down Michigan Ave. Does he need a watch? Apple products? A ten-pound Hershey bar? An American Girl doll?

(I'm sorry. I'm not much help.)
  • A custom hoodie? With a drawing/picture/ inside joke/ meaningful phrase on the back?

  • Some cycling related ideas:
-wireless headphones (they are cheaper than you would think)
    -a new jersey
    -arm and leg warmers
-heart rate monitor watch (Performance Bike has a $70 one on sale right now for $40)
    -cadence monitor
-does he use any bike apps on his phone? I use Strava and have been considering the premium version that has more features (and costs about $50/year)
-Uncommon Goods also has some good cycling gift ideas (and tons of other ideas if you want to go in a different direction!)

Sorry if I overwhelmed you! H and I both cycle, although he is far more into it and is constantly talking about things he "needs".

Ooh the heart rate monitor watch is a good idea. He's recently become obsessed with his FitBit; that's like the next level up from that. Gonna look into the wireless headphones too.

@kat1114 we just use Map My Ride for bike rides right now. I'm nervous about being TOO bike-centric since who knows how long it'll be til he can get back outside - he won't ride in the cold, and he's still not sure if he'll need another shoulder surgery. That was why I was thinking of the indoor trainer, so he could use it in the winter and/or with his arm in a sling without fear of crashing.

He doesn't really wear hoodies that have things printed on them... just solid color zip-up ones.

Edit: OK I went for it and bought a pair of wireless sport ear buds and a heart rate strap that'll sync with his iPhone (no watch. he wears the FitBit on his wrist and doesn't wear a watch, so I think this will work better for him). Spent $75, whoops, sorrynotsorry. He can use these on his bike or just at the gym. Thanks my wonderful Knottie friends!

  • I have nothing to offer but commiseration. H and I are really actually not getting gifts this year, but I am totally stuck on his dad. WHAT DO MEN EVEN LIKE? GOD. We always get him some sort of beer-themed gift, but I'd really like to not do that this year. It's getting old.

My fallback is something Bears, but, well, they are just too sad this year.

Gawd my dad is the worst. We're not even technically getting anything for FIL specifically, just lumping him in with couple gifts to MIL.

My dad is a shopper, so whenever there's something he wants, he buys it himself. I think we're just doing wedding pics this year.

@lolo883 where did you get the wireless ear buds from? I need to get H a pair but don't want to get crazy expensive.

I literally didn't sleep last night agonizing over this :(

I should have done the group gift thing, but now it's too late. I got MIL all wine-related gifts and he doesn't drink wine. At all. So, that would be kind of shitty.
