What happens in Vegas...

Any Vegas ladies here?

My future-in-laws are taking FI, both my FBsIL and me to Vegas in March! None of us have ever been before. We are staying at the Four Queens on Fremont Street downtown.

What are the absolutely can't miss things to do? Places to eat? Is Ghost Bar as cool as it looked on The Real World? What casino is going to win me the most money?

Any fun stories?

Re: What happens in Vegas...

  • FI and I just got back from a Vegas getaway! It was so much fun, and much needed.

Basically, just do anything that makes YOU feel like a high roller. We had a lot of fun with the food and shopping (the Miracle Mile Shops were connected to our hotel, so we were able to do shopping, dinner, and a show without going outside - great for late December!)

We also went to see The Mentalist (the guy who wrote/inspired the TV show), and that was super-Vegas-y and lots of fun.

We love The Mirage, as well, so we make a point to get there even though we didn't stay up that far north. BLT Burger is DELICIOUS, if all you want is a burger. A damn fine burger.
  • I LOVE just walking the strip seeing all the lights and action! I don't gamble or drink and I still love Vegas. Last time we saw Blue Man Group and Zombie Burlesque and both were so frigen good. I've also seen Beatles Cirque du Soliel and it's unbelievable. Plus the normal stuff like Bellagio fountains, NYNY coaster, the iconic welcome sign.

  • Go see a show.  All the Cirque shows are great, but IMHO, Zumanity, O and Ka are the best.  Wander the strip, both day and night.  I love roller coasters, so we've rode the New York coaster several times.  Wasn't too impressed with the rides at the top of the Stratosphere though.  Even wandering through hotels can be pretty cool as so many are themed.

We've eaten at several places.  Gordon Ramsey's Steak was great, but expensive.  The restaurant in the Eiffel Tower was fantastic, but they will rush you in and out pretty quick.  Strip Steak was tender but flavour was ok.

My favourite Vegas thing is the Bellagio fountains.  I make sure to go several times each trip, again, both day and night.  Have fun

  • You really can't leave Vegas without some kind of show!!
  • I like doing all the kitchy touristy stuff once in a while, so I went to Vegas I went to Madame Tussauds and walked around all the casinos. A new mall had just opened (I think it's called the Magnificent Mile?) that kept us entertained for a few hours. We went to Cirque Du Soleil Love (the Beatles show) which was so amazing and fun.

Pink Taco (in the Hard Rock) had some great food. In fact everywhere we ate was pretty damn awesome.

Fremont Street has a light show at night (in the street under the big canopy)

The Belagio is really pretty inside. The Venetian is pretty too and has a good gellato place!

I won the most money at the Mirage (I bet $5, won $30! Woo! Big money!) haha.

  • This is the perfect thread because my FFIL is taking FI, me, and my FBILs to Vegas the week after our wedding in August.
  • I'm a local so we have a different view on Vegas than most - we pretty much only go to the strip for food! We are major foodies and love to try out new restaurants.

Steakhouses are our favorites - best one for us has been SW Steakhouse at the Wynn. Gordon Ramsay Steak is a close second. CraftSteak is pretty good too.

For a good burger we like Holsteins and Shakes at Cosmo, or Gordon's BURGR at Planet Hollywood.

A little off strip is Lola's Louisiana Kitchen - freaking phenomenal.

We aren't night club people so I can't help there, though we have heard that most of the big clubs are insanely expensive and over crowded.

I would definitely say check out a show or two!!

If you're interested in any off strip things I would be happy to give more recommendations!

  • Oh yes, I forgot about Bouchon in the Venetian.  Go for breakfast!!  Don't know how I forgot.  We go every trip

  • @jennycolada I really wanted Penn & teller but for some reason they canceled shows the week I was there.

Whose choice is it to stay downtown? If none of you have ever been to Las Vegas, I can't stress staying on the Strip enough. This is nothing against downtown -- H and I stay there exclusively when we go (usually once a year), but I would never recommend a Vegas virgin stay anywhere but on the Strip.

Love Vegas!  I'm no "lady," but The Cosmopolitan is beautiful.  I stayed at The Paris, beautiful also.  Craps was my favorite game.

Las Vegas shopping is excellent.   There's The Fashion Show Mall, The Grand Canal Shops, Esplanade at Wynn, and others.

Ditto this. Some people don't realize how far downtown is from the Strip. Downtown is fun but maybe for a night.. I would definitely recommend finding a hotel located right on the strip if your budget allows.
