They might be the current queens of the modelling world, but the good genes from Hadid sisters Gigi and Bella didn’t stop at Anwar. As it turns out, Gigi and Bella have a model cousin — and you’re probably going to want to get to know her.
Joann van den Herik, the Hadid’s Dutch-born cousin, has just been signed to IMG and 12+ UK Model Management, proving the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree in this family. The daughter of one of Yolanda Hadid’s (Gigi and Bella’s mother) siblings, van den Herik has only recently been getting traction in the modelling world, but with her girl-next-door Dutch look and body positive mentality, we’re guessing things will start to speed up from now.
Open about her struggles as a model, van den Herik has gained popularity on Instagram thanks to her candid approach towards sharing experience — whether they pertain to her body, her job, or just her general life.
Discussing confidence via a recent post on Instagram, van den Herik proves even models have insecurities, writing about her experience of feeling like she can’t wear shorts.
“When I was younger I always was so happy when it became winter so I could hide my body. I hated the summer, I'd have to wear shorts otherwise I'd sweat to death???? I thought my legs were so fat! I was so afraid what people'd think of me. I was always like ‘omg they're probably look at my fat legs’ or ‘omg they're probably laughing at me because my hips are big’. So stupid, because you should wear whatever you feel good in and don't care about other people's opinion. It just makes me sad that people judge each other on things they wear, if someone wants to wear shorts skirts and tops, let them be,” she wrote.
And it’s van den Herik’s Instagram which has really propelled the model, posting photos with her cousins, who she shares a number of uncanny similarities with, and using her platform to promote a healthy body positivity.
Worth a follow? Definitely.
