Ideas other than writing own vows?

Hello!  My fiance and I are trying to decide what things to incorporate in our ceremony and I'd appreciate some ideas!  I have mixed feelings about writing my own vows.  For one, I've been to weddings where couples write their own vows and sometimes I feel like I'm lost in a sea of inside-jokes or waaay too much personal information (I could share funny stories!)  On the other hand, I would really love to share the feelings I have for my fiance.  I know my fiance would not want to read his own vows in public.  He's very quiet and doesn't often speak in front of groups of people and I don't want to make him uncomfortable.  We were thinking of taking more traditional vows and selecting a poem or something special to be read in place of original vows.  What do you think?  Any other ideas?  Thank you!

[QUOTE]I would recommend writing personal vows, and then exchanging them the morning before the wedding.  As for other things, you could have a reading or a solo during the ceremony if there are songs that are close to your heart.   H and I had "I'm Yours" sang at our ceremony.  H and I had been having a conversation about how freaking cheesy and sappy all the "wedding" songs were that we'd been going through about 6 months before the wedding.  I left for work that night and heard I'm Yours on the radio for the first time.  I came home and told H I'd actually found a love song that I thought was perfect for the wedding!  His response was "well, okay, but I just heard this great song tonight that I really want to use in the wedding.  Can we use them both?"  It was the same song. We'd never had "a song" in our 6 years together, but after our wedding ceremony, every single time we hear that song, no matter where we are or what we are doing, H will stop and grab my hand and just beam at me.

I really like the idea of writing letters and exchanging them before the ceremony.  Thanks!
  • Leave a letter for him in the place where he will be before you see him. My sisters husband did this with flowers. It was so sweet... She cried.

  • We are writing our own vows that will be very simple and short.  Then we have a small reading a the exchanging of rings.  If you don't want to write your own, you can do what Stage mentioned, I think that is very cute :)
