Dear Prudence,
My male roommate recently demanded I stop taking showers with my boyfriend—because, he said, he “didn’t like imagining what we do in there.” We don’t make a mess or noise; we’re very careful to not be that couple. I told my roommate I thought he shouldn’t imagine those things, and that that was more an issue on his end, but he insisted he couldn’t control his thoughts. This isn’t the first time this dude has demanded something I’ve considered unreasonable. He makes it a habit to ask us (his two female roommates) to meet his needs, but never does what we ask (whether it’s clean up his messes or remember to turn off the stove). Now I feel uncomfortable knowing he imagines me having sex. I also wonder when he will stop policing my activity based on his own imagination. What do I do? Do I bend (again) to his wishes? Do I ignore it and continue on?

Also, anyone else think "meet his needs" meant something closer to what is happening in the shower and further from turning off the stove for him? 

Also, WTF at not turning off the stove?!

This one gave me some serious icky feelings.  I would definitely move out ASAP, and try to limit time in the apartment alone with this dude.

I would politely explain I find that to be an unreasonable request.

I'm actually more bothered by the stove.  It is an enormous lack of safety.  He could kill them all in a fire.  She needs to GTFO as soon as it is reasonably possible.

Unless they're showering every night at 6pm for exactly one hour and preventing others from using the bathroom, I would continue to do as I wished and not even acknowledge his outrageous request. 

ETA: but for sure move out as soon as possible - this roommate is ridiculous

And move out ASAP.  This dude thinks he moved into a sweet situation where he has 2 moms to take care of him and that's absolutely why he doesn't like imagining what they're doing in the shower.

This would be me. I would start making noise even when I'm alone, just for shits and grins.

This guy scares me. I'd probably flat out say that this made me extremely uncomfortable, and as someone who is not in a relationship with me, he shouldn't be thinking sexual thoughts about me at all. Why doesn't he just assume that the couple cares about water consumption and is trying to cut back? What about when they are alone in a room with the door closed - what is he thinking then? And also I'd be pissed if he expected me to clean up his messes just because, what, I'm a woman?  No, just no.

I totally read that backwards at first - that her boyfriend wanted her to stop showering with her male roommate and I was all, "Uh, that seems like a reasonable request..." 

It's been a long week.

I think that's the time for the "Time to make him think something so disgustingly awkward that HE asks to move out before the end of the lease and you take him up on the offer!" talk that creates a rewritten visual so disgusting of what's NOT happening just to change the image in his head...  Because if he perceives that he can't control the images in his own head, they may as well get a chance to! (especially if they do a little homework to find out what turns the guy on and say the exact opposite or leave a cheap video in his view)..
