Wedding Woes

Tuesday Tuesday

was super busy yesterday..... have time to chat today I think.

Tonight I have a lymphatic massage after work and home to catch up on 90 Day and Halloween Baking championship.

I’m in a dilemma.  Kureg with starbucks coffee pods in the kitchen.  10 feet away.  Actual starbucks in connecting building.  10 minute walk.   What do I want?!? Starbucks pods are not the same!!! Do I need real starbucks coffee or fake starbucks coffee?

Re: Tuesday Tuesday

  • Yesterday, I took the day off. We needed after the Browns loss on Sunday  :(

I’m thinking about what to make for dinner tonight. Either a Chinese chicken salad or spaghetti and meatballs.

H doesn’t care so it’s up to me and I’m being indecisive 🤷🏾‍♀️
  • @CharmedPam if you go to the actual Starbucks, you could justify it as a little exercise because walking.

Okay so normally, I take the 8am bus but sometimes I miss it because BabyKitten drop off can take a tad longer. Whatever, next bus comes at 8:20am and I still get to work on time.

This morning 8am bus left just as I was rounding the corner. Frustrating, but whatever.
8:20am bus NEVER SHOWED and then 8:40am bus was late a.f! I got ON the bus at 8:57! Luckily my phone hadn't died yet, so I could text my coworker letting her know I was coming.

So I'm reviewing my budget. I basically need to make 5k more per year to afford it. Not horrible, just .... when can I get this?
I'm not looking at a horribly expensive car - Nissan Micra fyi - just something simple.

I'm gonna talk to M about trying to clear things up because I'm gonna try and figure out how to make more money and getting a friggen car.

Otherwise pretty basic evening. Made cheapo quesadilla's - ie; tortilla with cheese for BabyKitten and cheese & onions for M and I.
BabyKitten ended up just pulling out the cheese once she discovered she could lol! I'm curious how she would have done with the onion because it was more sweet than typical. I mostly put it in ours for the crunch.

My mum is picking her up tonight, so I've already given our daycare a heads up on the absolute excitement BabyKitten gets when she sees my mum - it's actually kind of my fave thing :)
  • @NBSquared2017 - no way - Chinese chicken salad!

@MissKittyDanger, clearly I did need coffee.  Starbucks coffee.  Because I read your post as “usually I take the Bam bus” and I’m like what the heck is a bam bus?  Why is it called that?  You get on it and BAM!  You’re at your destination?  But then I re read it and oooooh 8 am.

i did take the walk.  And now Im sipping my delicious coffee. I’m so plain jane. Just get a coffee and i add my own coconut creamer and sf syrup to it.  I forgot to mention that last night I had the fullest night sleep ever and even had to USE my alarm to wake me up.  Usually I’m up 2x a night for 1/2 hr and then up way before my alarm @ 5ish.  I hope it’s a sign that my sleep is back to normal.

  • @CharmedPam lmfao! The font on here is not helpful ... glad you got coffee ;)
Also you know they have sugar free syrup at most locations - have you tried almond milk? I know my location has coconut milk

Yeah but boring plain flavors.  I have Belgian cookie and white chocolate and almond roca!  I was using a better sweetener (stevia over splenda) but the taste was just awful.  I ended up saying I would rather use the “bad” sweetener and have good tasting coffee than yucky after-tasting coffee with “better for me” sweetener.  No sweetener isn’t an option.  I used to use almond milk in my coffee but I had to use a TON of it to make it creamy and then it got cold.  I had to warm up my coffee after.  With the coconut and almond creamers, a little goes a long way.

  • @ei34 I hope all goes well with your son!

Last night I picked up DD and we had a nice dinner just us two.  Grilled cheese and tator tots.  We then went shopping at Target.  They are having a 10% Cartwheel on TVs plus an additional 5% off total order for having your red card linked to their app.  Then the standard 5% off using the red card.  So the TV was on sale for $170 and after my discounts was down to $138!  So I surprised H with a new TV for the bedroom.  He seemed happy even though I spent all that money! LOL!  I also got an area rug for our last bedroom that I still need to set up!  That was on clearance too!

This morning I started to do the white paint touch ups in the half bath.  H and DD are meeting me at work today and then we are going over to MOD pizza for dinner.   Then heading over to the Comcast store and signing up for their mobile plan and getting us new phones.

H also said he wasn't to get the vanity out of the box today and maybe start set up.  I think that will depend on how long we are at Comcast.
  • I’m no help @CharmedPam. I have been all about the Starbucks Nitro cold brew with pumpkin cream lately.

    @NBSquared2017 Chinese chicken salad!

I’m trying to rest today and get ready for my trip tomorrow. I’m ready to get out of here. I did my first run in a long time on Sunday and I am so sore. It feels comical because I work out moderately to intensely at the gym 4-6 times a week and yet one run and I feel destroyed. My abs are so sore. This is ridiculous.

In other news, FBIL drama continues. FI’s older sister called him last night (she also had been suspicious and then saw the FB posts) and she called him out. He denied everything, said the page he was posting on was for “married and single people to talk” and just in general gaslighted the situation. It’s getting messy. One of their mutual friends posted a passive aggressive personalized meme on FB that was clearly about FBIL and FSIL texted her and told her to knock it off. It also looks like FBIL’s wife’s bff also found out yesterday, and she’s going to tell her so I guess I’m off the hook for that unless she doesn’t end up saying anything. Just, what a mess.

  • I took a vacation day on Mon.  It definitely did not go, as planned, lol.  My one and only errand I had planned was going to Sam's Club.  I was going to spend the rest of the day watching Law and Order reruns and doing major vegging.

But then my H needed to go to Home Depot and drop supplies off at the duplexes also.  And why don't we go out for a late breakfast before all that.  We get to the duplexes after brunch and our HD run.  And the roofing guy was there to look at replacing the one roof and other roof work we need.  He told us if we could hang out for 15-20 minutes, he'd get our quote put together.  Whhaattt!  Really?  Yaaassss!

That has been our biggest challenge with this roof stuff!  We've had so many companies who come out to look at the rooves.  But then never give us a quote, even after we've called a few times for "reminders".  The only two quotes we've gotten so far were from the bigger companies that do a lot of advertising.  But then, that tends to make their prices higher.  And they were!  Much more than what we'd budgeted for and expected to pay.

So, not only did this guy give us a quote the same day and while we were all at the house, but it was exactly what we were looking to spend!  Even a bit under.  And not for the "cheapest" stuff either.  For the duplex that needs a new roof, we're getting architectural shingles that are rated for 130MPH winds.  An especially great feature for us living down here in Hurricane Alley, lol.

I signed the contracts and put 50% down!  I am SO GLAD to finally have this taken care of.  I'll be even more glad when it's done.  The only little bit of negative is they probably won't be able to come out to do the job for another 3 weeks.

Overall, a great day with a lot accomplished.  But so much for my veg day, lol!  We left the house around 10AM and didn't get back until 4:30.

I am excited that the new seasons for Fall shows are ramping up.  Along with some new series that I want to check out.  I got my 911 and Good Doctor fix in last night, lol.  I also watched All Rise.  But I'm not sure about that one.  I think I'll end up liking it.  But the first show seemed a bit over-dramatized and hammed up.

  • @short+sassy we are having the hardest time finding someone to fix our foundation too. So many companies haven’t bothered to call us back. Or they only do “new foundations” not foundation repair. I’m trying to get your business! How hard is it to quote?! (Not that hard, I know because I grew up with contractor quoting). And the two companies we did get quotes from were also well known companies with insanely and unnecessarily high prices. Ugh.

Good luck with it!  Unfortunately, it can take a lot of perseverance.

I remember you mentioning foundation work that needs to be done.  I'm not sure what you all need done, but I'm going to throw out this idea jic it's helpful.

One of the properties I bought a few years ago had a foundation that was thankfully still in good condition.  But, according to my inspector, it wouldn't stay that way unless I did something.  The ground had started to erode away, out from under the foundation.  You could even see where there were some good-sized empty pockets under the house.  And this was a concrete slab foundation, so ya really shouldn't have been able to "see" under the house at all!

At any rate, he told me I could fix the problem with "sand pumping", to help support the foundation.  My inspector told me it would be about $4K to do that (2000 sq ft property).  And I had the seller take $4K off the purchase price!  After I closed, I found a number of companies who did that type of work and didn't have any trouble with getting quotes or hiring one.  I think I ended up paying $3800.  The price was based on how many tons of sand they needed to pump under the house.

  • Thanks for the suggestion @short+sassy. Unfortunately I don’t think that will work. Part of the house is sinking and technically we need to completely rebuild the foundation but we can get away temporarily with sister walls until we save enough money to do a real fix on the foundation. We also need a new roof in the next 1-2 years. This house is the biggest money pit I swear. I want our next place to be a newer build.

  • OH and if you're not grilling your veggies, you're missing out.  I grilled sweet potatoes and zucchini last night and it was amazing!!  Even DH, who was very not sure about the zucchini said he loved it.
  • @NBSquared2017 Chinese chicken salad.
@charlotte989875 ! That shit is too funny!
@mrsconn23 what a sweet heart! We had a Chromebox (different than Chromecast) for about the last 4 years. We only stopped using it because we got a smart TV.

Our friends are still in town. It is going mostly good except DH and I are still struggling a bit and it is more apparent with them here. We took the baby to the water park today and he LOVED it! It wore him out though so I took him home after 90 minutes or so, friends and DH stayed to do waterslides. Later I found out, BFF's bf got stuck in one of the tubes!! He is a tall, skinny guy so I think there just wasn't enough gravity/momenteum get him over the hump, lol. Tomorrow is the obligatory trip to Dubai.
  • @mrsconn23 M isn't big on certain veggies but loves them on the bbq - he says it's the smokey/bbq taste
  • The craziest thing happened in my neighborhood last week!  A school bus got into a wreck with a car about two blocks away from me.  I wasn't home at the time, but other neighbors were.  They heard the crash and a number of them went outside.

There were six kids on the bus.  A couple of them had gotten off the bus and the driver had also.  Then the driverless bus started rolling!  So the driver ran after it, got back in, and I guess put on the emergency brake.

The rest of the kids got off the bus.

The driver gets back in the bus and takes off!  He had not finished exchanging info with the driver of the car.  So that driver got back in her car and was in a hot pursuit going after the bus.

Meanwhile, there are the 6 abandoned kids on the side of the road!?!?!  The good Samaritan neighbors had already called the police.  They let the children use their phones to call their parents.  Can you even imagine getting a phone call from an unfamiliar number with your child on the other end that's basically telling you "the bus was in an accident, the driver left, and this lady's letting me use her phone to call you".  Some of the neighbors stayed with the children for TWO hours, until all of them were picked up by the appropriate parents.

The whole thing was just unreal and heads are already rolling.

  • @short+sassy  I would be grateful that my kid and others are safe but OMFG there would be phone calls to the bus company, school board, police, etc.

I can guarantee you that driver lost their job on the sheer fact they left the scene, let alone the kids.
  • @charlotte989875 That's hilarious. H and I have been in the middle of BCBC before and our dog Fred will jump right up on the bed and start licking my face. Everything just falls apart there because I can't stop laughing.
  • Omg @short+sassy that’s awful. Hit and runs are bad enough in and of themselves, but doing it when you are responsible for a child/children and then abandoning them on the side of the road?! Thank goodness the neighbors at least were decent people and were able to stay with the kids.

  • Thanks so much @OliveOilsMom!! His surgery isn't scheduled yet but I'll Def take the good vibes!
@charlotte989875 omg lmao! @mrsconn23 what an amazing kid! And this isn't the first time I've thought that

I scanned the board for the Wednesday post for a good minute which should sum up how my day is going.  Just hectic.  Whew. I know @levioosa will be amused maybe others too: I know I'm 20 years late but my summer reading assignment was the Harry Potter series.  I couldn't get into it back then but I've always meant to read the books.  I finished book 7  last night and now wonder what the heck I should read tonight  :D

The driver already lost his job.  The company said they always fire the bus driver when an accident happens, no matter whose fault it is.  I thought that last part was a pretty crappy policy they have.  But certainly warranted in this situation!

The company also made a litany of excuses, smh:

--Their driver didn't leave the scene, he and the other driver just drove to another street to get their vehicles out of the way and exchanged info nearby.  Ummm...except the witnesses at the scene said they were nowhere in site.

--It was the last stop for that route, so the driver didn't feel he needed to stay with the children.  Except some of the children lived 2-3 miles away.  Driver's counterpoint was to the effect of "oh, well then the school put those kids on the wrong bus".

--A representative of the bus company was at the accident scene within 40 minutes.  Witnesses verified that was correct.  But that person only spoke to the police and then left.  They did not take on any responsibility for the children still waiting for their parents.

  • @mrsconn23 that is so sweet! You should be proud of him. Yes grilled veggies are the best - especially grilled asparagus.
@short+sassy what the heck is wrong with businesses not getting back to people. Money in hand and no response. SMH. No wonder people don't stay in business.
    @charlotte989875 LOL!

Made it to Virginia and just fed FIL pizza and salad. Trying to catch up on emails and such.
