Wedding Woes

Prudie Day!

So I’m WFH again; my division decided we’re home for the rest of the week but possibly indefinitely. Most of our roles do not need to be done in the office, so they’re taking the precautions to keep people home.

They also asked us to not socialize publicly or in large groups even though they said they really have no authority to do that.

I’m still going out to dinner with my best friend tonight but a little on the fence about going to the theater tomorrow; I have Hello Dolly tickets and while things should be fine who knows. WWWWD?

Re: Prudie Day!

  • I'm back home again today, although I'm normally WFH on Thursdays. We're not officially anything yet, it's all at your manager's discretion. But really the only reason I ever go in is for politics, so I'd rather stay home as much as possible. There's no benefit to the risk, even if it's a small risk.

Otherwise, SSDD. I'm still trying to unpack a few boxes and get my office organized. I'm sick of living in clutter.
  • @charlotte989875, I would probably still go to the theatre and just be extra observant to be nowhere near someone coughing/sneezing.  Not touch anything with your bare hands.  Maybe wear gloves most of/the whole time?  Extra vigilant to not touch your face.  It's such a remote chance of even coming into contact with someone, much less getting sick yourself.  But no shame either in not even wanting to take it, considering your pregnancy.

@Casadena, espresso machine!  At least that was a nice bonus to come back to after your maternity leave, lol.

I'm in a good mood today.  I've been feeling more productive and motivated, both at work and in my personal life.  I think that's why.

My random for the day.  I was watching the latest episode of The Resident a couple nights ago.  Some of the doctors were at a brunch drag show when a performer dressed like Dolly Parton collapsed on stage.

Me:  "Dolly Parton.  I forgot how much I like her!  I don't think I have any of her CDs."  ((Head over to Amazon and order a CD of her greatest hits)).  I know CDs are old fashioned in a world of streaming music.  But I'm still a dinosaur, lol.

It arrives today and should be waiting for me when I get home.  Looking forward to getting my "Dolly" on, on the way to work tomorrow morning, lol.

  • I've been permanent WFH since mid-last year, and this whole situation is not going to make that change anytime soon.  I am grateful that the switch happened when it did!  I also get to play with adorable rabbits on my lunch break.  Give me all the perks you want at an office, there will be NONE to beat that!
It's busy at work today, and I've got choir tonight.  And I believe hubby has parent teacher interviews tonight ... apparently a bunch of parents have been complaining because he isn't letting their kids coast through school, so it might be interesting.

  • apparently travel channel’s “paranormal caught on tape” wasn’t Interrupted by Trump and saw the breaking news from my facebook feed. All the fb comments commented on him sniffling every 2 minutes.

Dolly is amazing @short+sassy, good buy!

i was supposed to head to my friends this weekend in Des Moines (4.5 hrs away) but she said “we’re laying low this weekend” and I was like “want me to cancel?” And she said said “yes please” lol.  I understand us not going anywhere, I was happy to chill with her but now we’re doing it April 4th instead. oh well, maybe my tax guy will be done and I can sign off on my taxes this weekend then.

  • DH informed his former employer that we want to leave the 1st of June. Now we just wait to see if we are traveling for vacation or forever. :(

Rumours of students doing e-learning until the end of the year.

I did an etiquette no- no and organized my own birthday outing next week. My girlfriend's and I are going to a local wine and cheese night. I can not wait. All of this moving/ not moving shit is stressing me out more than I would like to admit. I need a night out to blow off some steam.
  • Charlotte - If you were not pregnant, I would say go.  But you are limited to what medicines you can take - so I would not take a chance by seeing a play tomorrow.

I went to Wegmans yesterday just after an official pandemic was declared.  It was weird there.  Absolutely no one in line to check out at the area where the hot foods are.  I was able to get everything I wanted.

Yoga was great.  We actually video taped the session, so when our teacher is on vacation (if she goes), we will be able to still have a class together.  Not sure what is up tonight, we will have to go to BJs soon to fill up the gas tank and pick up a couple of things.

We are going to Atlantic City on Saturday for our anniversary.  We will stay over until Monday morning.  My niece is going to stay with DD and my mom will help take DD to daycare on Monday morning, so my niece can get to school on time.  She has to be at school by 7:30 and with traffic, she would need to drop DD off at 6:30 when the school opens.  I would also need to get her added as an authorized person, so its just easier to have my mom do it.  I can only imagine how long it would take a teenager to get herself and a toddler ready!  My niece would have had to get up at like 5 AM!

If you don't mind my being nosy, lol.  What are your all's plans for that?  Is it if he gets another job by X date you all are staying?  But if he doesn't, you all will be leaving for good on June 1st?

Good luck with whatever happens!  I'd be stressed too.  I can only imagine it is a lot to arrange and takes time to do, if you all end up moving back to the States.

  • So, the last ripples of this massive clusterfvck at our community center are out.  I think our entire Pride committee just resigned last night, as well as the entirety of the old board which resigned on Monday.  So, there are now 7 brand new people on the board with no idea of how to even run the meeting, no experience or knowledge of how the center runs, and no one with experience willing to help them b/c of how this new board went about this.  B/c honestly, those with experience fear for our employment and reputations, since threats against those things have been leveled by this new board.  They were the final straw for me starting a new FB profile and I have them all blocked.  I have no idea what anything will look like,  Pride being canceled might not be the worst thing just b/c of this pandemic, but that's just a slide by, not the real problem.

I'm just ready for this week to be over.  I've been keeping my nose to the grind at work and it's been rough.

Basically, if he got a job offer in this country by the end of March we would plan on staying here, in out current villa. The hope of that is basically zero at this point. Our next deadline is beginning of May/ end of April. We are pretty confident that we will have a better idea of where to ship our stuff to by that point. FX for some place international, not even picky at this point lol.

Well, I'm done saying SSDD, that's for sure.

My MIL canceled her trip up here to NY today. She was supposed to fly in Sunday.

I wasn't really freaked out until last night. But I'm not just scared of the virus, and contracting it, and people dying. I'm terrified for the effects on my industry. We haven't seen a dip in sales yet, but it's coming. People are not attending events, events are canceled, people will also not be going to restaurants. It's a scary time.

We're basically having to ration out our sanitizing supplies. We're out of so many products, with no ETAs. Again, not a fun time to be in purchasing! I have heart burn and acid reflux and I think it's stress related.
The effects on the global, US, and local economies...and on many industries...is very scary.  And the longer it lasts, the exponentially worse it can get.

The industry I work in should be fine.  But the main industry in NOLA is tourism.  I have one tenant who is a bartender in the French Quarter and another one who is an Uber driver.  So I am a little worried about how a tourism-drought could affect their ability to pay rent.  Which would be bad news for me and each of them.

And that's just our little story.  That could be played out a multi-millions of times across the country for people whose wages depend on the industries that are already being hit.

  • Thanks everyone, I talked to my mom who was planning to go with me and she told me to stay home. She was a nurse for 40 years, but the kind of nurse who says we don’t go to the hospital unless she was sure we needed stitches or had a broken bone.  She’s not one to overreact so if she’s telling me to stay home I’m going to listen!

That sucks @climbingwife if your industry, it’s definitely unsettling. I work at a bank and while we’ll be fine, the declining rates & markets are definitely going to have a long term impact. Honestly the government handling of the situation isn’t helping (a travel ban is driving airline & airplane stocks even lower).
  • @mrsconn23 I was thinking of you this morning as I think I know where you work and how it must be impacted quite a bit with all of the uncertainty, especially headed into a normally busy travel season.

@climbingwife is your business affected because without the events/people going out your products aren't needed as much?

It's wild.  And we're trying to keep up.  Luckily I deal with people via e-mail and also, I have *some* autonomy to make decisions.  But our leadership really wants us to stay as cohesive as possible.  THANK GOD I don't mess with cruises at all.  I've seen what's coming in about them as I forward the information and yeeeshhh.

Also, the NHL and MLS have followed the NBA and suspended their seasons.

My sister says she's gearing up for her district to close.  Several other school districts are likely going to be deciding between now and tomorrow.  I'm fully prepared for DefConn to be home with me for awhile, but radio silence so far from school admin. I'm just hoping there's home schooling or e-learning he can do so the school year isn't extended by too much, if at all.

DH and I had a pretty serious conversation about possible quarantine and our ability to quarantine in our house if one of us got sick.  We have cleaning products and TP, but we need more food.

SIL and I postponed Louisville.  My sisters are debating their spring break plans. I hope we have a ton of more information in the next week or so, but at this point it doesn't feel worth it to proceed until this shit peaks.  At least the experts are coming up with tests fast and that get results quickly, but manufacturing is a challenge.

We were all worried about Y2K, clearly 2020 was the long game.

Related but not to the virus - @OliveOilsMom might remember that in 2012, there was a train derailment in southern NJ which spilled vinyl chloride. It was at the border of the borough where my roommates and I were living. The edge of the evacuation area was like a block away from us, because wafting toxic chemicals.

One girl's dad wanted us to get out, but he was a chronic overreactor. Meanwhile, my dad is a chemical engineer, and neither he nor I tend to be panic types. So when I called my dad and he said we should leave, the other two girls were like "Okay, now we think we should go."
  • I'm on a plane now headed home.   In my travels through ATL and SDF I saw maybe 5 masks.   I've washed hands, avoided my face and tried to not feed myself with my hands as much as possible.

Sunday we have a party scheduled but guests are dropping out.   Many school districts in the state have announced that they are closed until further notice.  Our town hasn't announced this yet however there's a press conference that the governor will run soon and I anticipate an update from  that.   they're off tomorrow and it will be interesting to see what follows.

My school district and my kids' district remain open.  One of my daughters has a good friends' birthday party this weekend.  My son has Jurassic World tickets next weekend.  I'm at a loss as far as what I should be holding them from vs. sending them to.  I've seen an impact in local commerce too, it's scary.
  • @Flantastic - yes, I do remember that!  Can't believe its been that long already!  I followed along as the litigation went forward from the residents, as my department tangibly deals with similar chemical spills.
  • Wellesley the governor banned events over 500 and the theatre cancelled the performances so I guess I don’t have to make that call.

Was just coming here to @ you that Broadway shows are canceled through April 12th.  All events/places  in NYC with over 500 people are suspended/closed except for schools, hospitals and public transportation.
