How was the weekend?!

Friday, DH and I ordered door dash from a Mexican place we like.  We set up our blow up pool and let DefConn swim in it.   We need to figure out a mosquito solution for our yard.  DefConn and I both are magnets for them and he gets welts from the bites sometimes.

Saturday, I ran around and went to Trader Joe's for the first time in for-ev-er.  I hadn't been there since February, I think.  SIL, BIL, and nephews showed up mid-afternoon.  The kids played in the pool.  I had so much fun with my nephews.   My younger nephew has changed so much, especially his vocabulary and diction.   He loved our trampoline.

Sunday, we went boating. It was a nice day.  The water was choppy, so it was good for tubing.  FIL wanted to waterski, but I really think they're going to have to either go at the asscrack of dawn or we're going to have to plan a late boating day where we stay out until dark.   I am roasty-toasty.  We ordered an awning for our boat and it was too big, so we're waiting on the smaller one to come in.  That will help us to not be constantly in the sun when we're out there.  Also, I need to just keep my rashguard with our boating stuff since I won't wear it pretty much any other time.

This coming weekend, DH's cousin is coming to town and staying with us a couple nights. She's one of my fave people and I really like her FI and his daughter.  Plus it's new people to talk to rather than the same about 10 people we've seen since February.  And she's a nurse and he's an EMT (yes, they've been super safe about COVID), so they'll have some stories.

Also, FIL starts a job today at a small motorcycle shop (they restored a bike for him a year or two ago).  It's his part-time 'retirement' job (he retired back in February).  It sounds like it's going to be super flexible and bikes are one of his passions, so I think it will be great for him.

  • Oh and our company founder passed away this weekend.  She sold it back in 1996, but was still around at high profile events (40th anniversary party and the like) and the main charity supported by the company as a whole is her foundation.  I never worked for her, but I have plenty of higher tenure co-workers who did.  The 'back-in-the-day' stories are legendary.

Love that he found something and something that he likes already @mrsconn23
Sounds like a good social distancing outing @charlotte989875

My weekend was shitty.  I pulled a muscle (stomach muscle so I guess I’m not 100% recouped yet) on Friday on my pilates bench (and it still burns), decided to watch the Epstein documentary on Saturday (that’ll get you down), had a family fall out on Sunday and then today I woke up and my back is killing me.  This is 40.

  • @mrsconn23, Your weekend sounds great!  Sounds like that will be a perfect p/t job for your dad.  What a great way to stay out and about in retirement, but p/t and doing something he has a passion for.

I am also mosquito bait and they are heavy in Louisiana.  We use a product called Talstar in our yard.  It's the same stuff a lot of exterminator companies use for mosquitoes and you can find it on Amazon.  It's amazing!!!  It cuts down on the mosquitoes drastically.  We put it around both the perimeter of our yard and the perimeter of our house about 1x/month in the summer.

I'm at work today, despite Cristobal.  No flooded streets when I went to work.  And the storm/bad weather should be leaving the area by mid-afternoon, so hopefully I don't have to stay late waiting for waters to recede.  Unfortunately, the streets are prone to flooding around my office building.

The weekend was pretty mellow.  We went to the bank and Walmart, because I had a prescription to pick-up and grabbed a few things since we were there anyway.  But that was it.  Otherwise stayed home.

I have a long list of personal things to take care of today.  All of it phone calls, but still.  It's going to be too many phone calls and not enough lunch hour, lol.

  • Weekend was great. For the first time in a long time, I logged off work Friday and didn't log back in until today. I needed the separation.

Friday afternoon I got a notice in the mail approving my unemployment claim. Except I didn't file an unemployment claim. So, I scrambled around late Friday trying to get someone from the state agency or HR on the phone with no luck. It's pretty clear that it's fraud, but I'm not sure what to do next. I spoke to HR today and they have a flag in case they're asked for verification, but I still can't get the state on the phone.

Otherwise, the weekend was good. Saturday H got the AC fixed in our POS truck while I cut the grass in the morning. Then in the afternoon we went tubing down the river. The weather was perfect: hot, but a few clouds to prevent us from frying in the sun. We ended up taking the pup. She loved the water but didn't know what to make of floating. Yesterday we did a little shopping and went to the dog park. Then had a relaxing dinner at home of fresh fish. It was perfect.

This morning, I got up and went to the gym for the first time in eons. I was pretty happy to see that it wasn't that crowded, everything was spread out and people were being kind about making space for each other, but disappointed that the promised "staff will be cleaning regularly" didn't seem to be real. The gym I go to is actually close to a lot of big offices, most of which are still closed. I wonder if it will get more crowded as places start bringing their employees back. I remember when I used to go there regularly that there were a few other "regs" who lived further out in the suburbs, but came in early for gym/shower so they could be ahead of traffic.
  • OMG @MyNameIsNot, I've been hearing about the concerns about u/e fraud.  I'm sorry you've gotten caught up in it.  I hope you can get someone on the phone from the state, which is ALSO a huge issue now as well all over.  I hope they can get your case flagged/closed/etc before anyone is paid out incorrectly. How frustrating and concerning about your personal info overall.
  • @MyNameIsNot, oh no!  I was just reading an article last week, talking about the rampant unemployment fraud going on with identity theft.  It's despicable.  Other than that, I'm glad you had a fun time tubing.  Tubing sounds really appealing and I haven't done that in forever.  Hmmm, maybe I'll have to drag my H out this weekend, if the weather is good.

Yay for the nice weekends @mrsconn23 and @charlotte989875 and boo for yours @CharmedPam ..hope you begin to feel better
Yesterday we had a socially distant baby shower for my sister.  Just five of us, and we were spread out well.  Her original shower was supposed to be Saturday but the weather was better yesterday so we did it then.  It was wonderful seeing my mom and sisters in person.

So glad you finally got to see them! How is your sister doing? She’s due in July, is that right?
  • It was a decent weekend!

Saturday we did a lot of cleaning in the house.     After just being swamped we needed to catch up on laundry and did some organizing in the house.   We've been using a 4' folding table from the ILs in the kitchen and it's previous purpose was party storage but it morphed into crap holder.   I hate that we just let stuff pile on it and by getting rid of it we now have a reason to open the mail.   I found that we have THREE full containers of Miralax so come to my house and eat all the bananas and binding foods.

Sunday we went to the ILs for an outdoor dinner and while my FIL and his brother are frustrating to the right we also had a good civil discussion and I take that as a good sign.   Kids had a great time playing too.

My plan is to show up at my parents' on Sunday to see my dad and then head to see my cousin with graperfuit, limes, and cointreau.   She has tequila.
  • @mrsconn23 we have a DynaTrap in our yard.  As long as we remember to empty it out regularly, it works really well.  It does need to be plugged in, but it uses no chemicals - which I like.

We decided to come to my parents for the week.  It's been incredible to have a little help with the babe.  IL's are pissed.  I get it, they want to see us and the baby.  For a number of reasons, it makes sense for us to see my family first, plus we'll get way more work done having my mom around during the day.  There's way more IL drama, but it's exhausting and I dont' want to spend too much energy on it today.

H and I were able to get out and golf yesterday and it was the first time we'd spent alone together away from the babe in over 3 months.  It. Was. Incredible.

The weekend was lazy.  I watched Just Mercy again (so good), Marshall (this was excellent) and I Am Not Your Negro (I have read James Baldwin, need to read more, but I've never seen video of him speaking.  He was a beautiful speaker, eloquent, perfectly cadenced, an elegant man, just gorgeous to listen to).  I'm taking full advantage of all of the black history movies/documentaries that so many services are streaming right now.

My work just dumped a piling steam of horseshit on us all.  Basically, the program we use for everything, literally everything, is being upgraded and transferred to an "updated" version of what we use (same company, newish program).  But they want us to keep track of everything we do in existing program for a week.  When I say everything, I really mean it; I associate emails to it, I write comments in it, I track all phone calls incoming/outgoing in it, it's what I use to request a check, it holds all documents related to a case, it has our form letters in it, etc.  It would be easier to shut us down for a day, upgrade all systems, then bring us back in, but god forbid we lose one day of work to save multiple days of bullshit work.  This is just so damn dumb and incompetent.

ETA:  There was a massive protest a block from my apartment (2000 people in a small city that is still 92% [or something that high] white).  I stayed home, to keep my apartment open in case of police violence and/or heat issues b/c it was 92 with really high humidity as a safe space.  Happy to report that there was no violence, though the cops were assholes and were blocking the downtown parking lots for a few hours.  So I did have a few friends drop in because they couldn't leave and it was so nice to see people.  We all hugged each other for minutes, I think, just happy to reconnect physically.
  • I just finished cleaning bathrooms and kitchen. Now I'm exhausted. I had my virtual training session with my trainer this morning. I'm not going to be doing in person training for a while. I did go back to the Y yesterday because I just couldn't get on the treadmill one more time. Doing the elliptical was much better on my hip. Social distancing and cleaning practices were really good. I figured Sunday late morning isn't a busy time and it wasn't. I talked to the director of the cardio area. She said really early in the morning and early afternoon typically weren't busy last week. The most they had had in the room was 27 (it's a big room). So I think I'll plan on going at those times so my hip can heal.

The weekend was pretty laid back. Saturday night I zoomed with college friends then FaceTimed with one of them separately. Yesterday it was gorgeous here so I spent a lot of time on the porch reading this month's book club book. I'm almost done and book club isn't until next week so I'm good. I think we will meet outside in the host's yard and keep appropriate distance. We also will probably bring our own food and beverages. H and I finished Mad Men last night. I was disappointed in the ending.

I'm so excited to be going to Chicago this weekend for the boys' birthday. I'm taking cakes for the party. I had to order another present because one of their friends gave them what I was giving them. UGH! Why don't people check to see if something is a good idea or not. I had had the present for almost a month!
  • @MyNameIsNot have you done a credit check on yourself yet and frozen your credit? That really sucks.

@mrsconn23 sounds like a great weekend.

I had a pretty good weekend. It was definitely active. FSIL and I did two hikes and walks. We ended up doing 27 miles this weekend. I did get a little sunburned but overall I feel pretty good. I’m trying to decide what kind of a workout to do today. Otherwise SSDD.

I've done a credit check, no changes. I'd been debating freezing credit, but I guess I should. I don't anticipate needing any new accounts for a bit, so I guess it shouldn't be a big deal.

Still just getting a busy signal at state. I posted to them on social media.  :D
  • @mrsconn23 that sounds like a fabulous weekend!

Our weekend was chill. DS is transitioning well into his bed. He hasn't woken up in the middle of the night yet but it did take DH longer than normal to get him to sleep last night.

I took DS for his 18month vaccinations today. They did it in the car so they didn't weigh him or anything but at least he won't get the measles.

I ordered a bunch of quilting supplies a while ago and everything is showing up at once. I have one more coming and then I shouldn't have to order anything else for 6 months, lol.

It is pretty much business as usual over here, things are slowly opening with new restrictions and guidelines. I feel fine with it, tbh.
  • @CharmedPam Ditto on the Epstein documentary - it really bummed me out as well.  So sad what they all went through, and having him get away with it.  I'm really curious to see what will happen to Prince Andrew and Ghislaine Maxwell.

@MyNameIsNot Did your dog get up on the tubes with you to float?  Or was she more swimming beside you?  I keep wondering if I should get my dog more into water sports - I was debating buying a kayak where she can sit up front, but I don't think she would stay on top and would probably end up swimming beside.

My weekend was very productive - got lots of yard work and laundry done.  I needed dog food and some other supplies but was really delaying going, because I just hate going out for anything now.  I never know if there are going to be huge lines or if what I'm going for will even be there.  But I did get most of what I needed, and no lines at all which was great.

Third-ing the "kids these days" rock.  The seniors at my HS decided not to take the refunds their prom venue offered them.  On their own the student government asked the venue if they'd be able to prepare the food they were going to had there been a prom, and they had it delivered to the staff of two nearby hospitals.

@charlotte989875 she's right near you, due July 27th.  She's feeling well but soo over it, which I remember from this point (especially my summer pregnancy).
It was amazing seeing my mom and sisters in person.  I actually wept with relief on the drive home.  Isolating from loved ones is no joke.

I'd listened to a ton of Epstein-based podcasts.  DH and I watched the first episode of the docuseries.  We have not gone back to it.  I think it was a little much for DH.  It was a lot for me, and I'd already heard 90% of the information that was talked about in the first episode.

I just got a news push notification that the US is now pressuring the UK and the Crown to give up Andrew for questioning over Epstein.  We'll see how that plays out.  So far, they've played keep-away with him.
  • Except for the huge drama over the weekend, I couldn't tell you much.
Saturday I went out for a bit with my mum. I got a 2nd hand umbrella stroller for $20 when regular is $30-$40 so that's good.

Saturday night and Sunday were just too much.
Saturday night BabyKitten had an awful allergic reaction. Hives. Vomitting. Etc.
Benadryl, then we opted for emerg to be safe. Since it's one person only, M went with her {I don't drive} They gave epi pens for her and now I have a call tomorrow with clinic to get referral for allergist.

Guys it was terrifying. I've never experienced food allergies - neither has M - and this was severe.
We got list of ingredients from restaurant we ordered from, and we think it's sesame but it's not 100%
I removed sesame related items out of our pantry/fridge to be sure. Luckily it's not a common food for us, but guys .... garlic powder has it. So we're using fresh garlic now to be safe.
  • Oh no, @MissKittyDanger ! Poor BabyKitten.  And how terrifying for you and M.  I'm glad she's OK now and that you're getting referred ASAP.

My nephew has had some nasty allergic reactions to food.  It's so scary when they can't tell you what's going on.  I hope that they get it drilled down to what caused her to have the episode.  ((hugs)) mama
  • @MissKittyDanger That's horrible!  So sorry that BabyKitten had to go through that - it must have been so terrifying.  I can't even imagine.  How is she feeling now?  She must be pretty scared as well over what happened.

  • @MissKittyDanger, I'm so sorry about what happened to BabyKitten!  That is so scary.  It's sometimes surprising the ingredients you don't expect in food and other items.

I don't know if it still does, but it caught my eye years ago that my contact lens solution had something like "pork pancreatin" in it.  And, sure enough, there was a warning not to use the product if you were allergic to pork.

  • @mrsconn23 @kerbohl Definitely scary. She's good now and I have list of information from the restaurant. We have a call tomorrow for referral for allergist.
We think it's sesame since it's biggest allergen, but it could be something odd like eggplant?
BabyKitten been pretty tired given all going on, but poor kiddo was starving yesterday when we gave her dinner but we're so nervous :(
  • @MissKittyDanger Oh no, I'm glad she's doing a little better now. Food allergies are no joke!

@kerbohl We went with a group and one of our friends was in an inflatable boat, like you'd go rafting in. She put the dogs in there with her. They all had life jackets, so they were able to jump off and swim some, but jump on and ride some. But if you know my dog, you know she just stood on my lap with her butt in my face most of the trip.

This sounds like something my dog would do!

  • Weekend was pretty good here.  Friday night I got my hair cut and it felt so good.  I have short hair and get it cut every 4 weeks and it had been nearly 3 month.  My pixie is perky now

Saturday was low key.  I met my mom at storage and helped her get some things out.  She also gave me some incredibly old pictures from Dad's side of the family.  I need to get them scanned as they are over 100 years old and starting to fall apart.  After storage I got the battery changed in my watch and stopped for groceries.

Sunday we did church from home and then went to a local peony farm.  So many varieties and colors.  We stopped for ice cream and came home. I made pasta e fagioli in the instant pot for supper - one of my DH's favorites.

The weather this weekend was beautiful with low humidity and temps in the upper 70's.  The humidity is up today and we have a flood watch as the remnants of Cristobal moves up north.

I swear we are still dealing with the full moon at work.  Issues are not just usual, they all seem to be something weird or amped up.

  • My weekend was mostly good. I had a scare over the brother of a friend who is hospitalized with coronavirus, but he seems to be doing better.  But I had a lot of activities plus time with my parents (first time in a couple of weeks). I have a grilled New York strip steak in my refrigerator calling out to me for dinner tonight (grilled it yesterday with my dad and then brought it home -- he's giving me barbecue lessons).

At work things are ramping up because the end of the expanded tax season is coming - and then it'll be tax season again. But this year it's a good thing.
