Wedding Woes

Postpone again?

Our original wedding date was scheduled for May 16th at a beautiful venue with almost 300 guests invited.  We had obviously postponed that date.  My now husband and I still got married on May 16th with our close family & wedding party in a friends backyard.  Our new date is scheduled for September 20th, 2020 and we are struggling with making the decision if we should postpone again.  Yes things have started to open back up, but that doesn't mean the virus is gone.  We don't want our memory to be of someone getting ill because they gave to our wedding celebration.  All of our food was originally self serve and that is no longer allowed and our caterer doesn't have servers.  If we did postpone again it would be to May 16th 2021 and we would still have a ceremony because I want to wear my wedding dress & have my dad walk me down the aisle which we didn't do at our small elopement. The 2021 date would be on our 1 year anniversary so we could call in a vow renewal if we wanted.   Any suggestions on how to move forward with the 1st postponed date of September 20th 2020 or do you think we should postpone again to May 16th, 2021.   We just want to still have our special & fun celebration that we have took so long planning.

For 300 people, I would postpone again. It's still hard to tell what's going to be happening in September, but it doesn't sound like most places will be fully reopened by then, and 300 is quite a large gathering. There's still a lot of uncertainty no matter what you do, but giving yourself another year should give you a lot of space to figure out how to rethink things like food service.
  • No way would I host 300 people in September.

I would try to host next May and play a bit by ear until early winter 2021.
  • Agree that I don't think a 300 person should (if even allowed) happen in September. I would postpone to next year.
  • Definitely postpone to next May.  Your plans for a renewal sound lovely.
  • I also agree with postponing the celebration until next May.  Not only is that a safer option for an event with 300 guests, but I think having it on your all's first anniversary is a neat idea.
