Wedding Woes

Friday?

Anyone here?
Just packing up, we're leaving for New Hampshire early Sunday.  I'm always happy to be in my second home but this year more than ever...literally any break from routine is welcomed.  Wishing everyone a happy weekend!

Re: Friday?

  • I'm here.  Gearing up for my last day of a busy couple of weeks at work.

No big plans for the weekend.  Saturday we might go to an open house.  The property doesn't check a few of our boxes but we'll feel like we're doing something until something comes on the market we like and can afford.  There's been nothing new listed for over a week.  Ugh

Sunday the weather is supposed to be cooler and less humid so I'd like to get out and do something.  Monday we have friends coming to town for an appointment.  We would normally meet them for dinner but with COVID and her health, I'm not sure that will happen this time.  If the weather is nice, we can sit outside at their favorite restaurant.  It'll be up to them.

    Happy FriYAY!

  • Fun fun!

i’m here.  Just sitting here watching the clock. Does anyone have any magic potion for closing large pores?  I can’t stand pictures of me!  Here’s what I’m using now but I don’t think it’s working

I hope I don’t have to use Dr Brandt’s entire pores be gone line - ain’t nobody got time for that routine.

  • @ei34, I'm here!  Or at least I will be for the next hour-ish.  Going on vacation sounds extra heavenly right now.

I am so tired of feeling shackled to my house, my work, and my city overall.  But my usual weekend getaways or anywhere I might go within driving distance are in s**t show places, COVID-wise.  Looking at you TX, MS, and FL.  Not like Louisiana is a gem, but at least we've been trying.

I have some personal stuff to take care of before I leave work that I've been procrastinating on for way too long.  And I am not leaving today until it's done!!!  I'm determined.  I would love to start the weekend without that stuff continuing to hang over my head.

Other than that, the weekend should be pretty chill.  My H and I might hit up some of the prix-fixe specials going on right now because it's restaurant month.

My doctor visit yesterday went well enough.  My thyroid levels are still a bit too low, but usually they are way too low so that was an improvement.  My A1C (three month average blood sugar) went up a good bit from my last visit so "poo" on that.  I just need to be more diligent about eating better and checking my blood sugar more often.

But the main thing I wanted to know is am I really more at risk for COVID complications (if I caught it) because I have Type I diabetes.  Because it doesn't seem like I would be and that's what I found in my own research.  Despite "diabetes" always being called out as an extra risk factor, he totally agreed with me.  Hah!  I knew it.  He said that, of his Type I patients who contracted COVID, none of them needed to be hospitalized.  They felt crappy, like many people do, but were able to take care of it at home.  He said he's only had one patient die from COVID complications (heart attack).  She was a Type II diabetic, but had other medical problems, including stents in her heart.

I know anything can happen with this disease, even with people who are young and perfectly healthy, but that did give me some piece of mind that at least my fairly well-controlled diabetes doesn't put me at greater risk.

  • Ugh, this day is going SO SLOW.

No plans tonight. Really just want to get into bed and sleep. Tomorrow my best friend is home, so we'll be meeting up at some point. We also have a friend in town, so I think we're going to do a socially distanced outdoor dinner.
  • I hate today. I hate this week. My coworker has been the worst this week and we’ve been in a power struggle where she’s been trying to make me do her work because she doesn’t feel like it. Today she called off so I have no choice but to do it. I’m sick of her and her bullshit. And this week has been absolutely endless. I need a vacation.

Here’s to margaritas on the weekend.

  • I'm here for once!  Took a long hiatus!!  Just essentially work work work over here.  I've got about two more weeks of needing to work overtime everyday, and then maybe .... MAYBE I'll be able to work regular hours.  I might take a week off.

Mini vent though!  SIL gets her first house tonight, which is good for her.  However, she expected us to leave our dog for 12-14 hours alone in our house while we come and help her paint her new house.  So ... uh no, either you let us bring our dog and keep her outside or have her sequestered inside somewhere while we paint, or you only get either my husband and me helping you for the day.  OR, you don't paint your new house if it is stressing you out this much.  OR you accept just a few hours of help from us instead of expecting us to help that long (originally wanted us to sleep over, so I guess expected us to desert our dog for multiple days since she is immune-compromised and can't be kenneled). OR you paint in the evenings for the week and get it done yourself before all of your stuff gets moved in next weekend.  Honestly, it sucks because of how much work it is, but that's life.  She's now punishing my husband because he won't drop everything to help her with her new house.  Bah!

@levioosa Your coworker sounds ridiculous.  Is she just calling off because it is a Friday?  Does she pull stuff like this more often?  Hopefully the higher ups have taken notice of it!

  • @kvruns, Congrats to your SIL with her first house!  But that's frustrating.  She's asking for a big favor so, of course, you all get to draw the parameters for it.

It also sounds like she might be biting of more than she can chew.  Depending on what color the walls are now vs. what color she is painting, it will take 1-coat of primer and 2-3 coats of paint.  Some paints claim to have primer in them, but it comes out better to throw on some Kilz (primer) first.  Especially if she is trying to paint over a dark color and/or if there are odors in the room(s).
And the paint needs to be fully dried before applying the next coat.  I hope she isn't expecting for all of that to be done in one day, because it's not happening.  Even to get all of that done in one week is going to be tough if we're talking about most/all of the interior of a house.  Not to mention, painting can get really tiring after a few hours.  It just kills your dominant arm.  Or after about one hour if you are talking about me, lol.

A few pro tips.  Buy a good quality paint because it will save a ton of time.  It doesn't need to be the most expensive, but you all don't want a no-name bargain basement brand either.  I'm a fan of Behr.

Prep. Prep. Prep!  A good job that goes along smoothly is ALL in the prep work.  Don't skimp on that.

She is painting gray over .... gray.  Definitely biting off more than she can chew, and I did try to warn her.  She is one person buying a three bedroom house, so I suggested to her that she paint one bedroom and leave the others empty so that she could do it over a number of weekends.  But nope, wanted to do it in one week, expected my husband to do it for her since she didn't take time off work ...
She is painting the entire house gray, and I think maybe two of the rooms are a light yellow or brown ... And that's funny, I recommended Behr as well!  I've never had issues with that brand, they seem to have good paint.

  • @kvruns she’s doesn’t call off often. But the way things have been between us this week I strongly suspect it was a passive aggressive call off.

I bet she will quickly change her tune on that when she realizes how long all of the painting is going to take, lol.

But at least she isn't trying to paint over crazy colors.  That will make things easier and not require extra coats.

Great minds think alike!  To me, Behr is the right balance of a good quality paint that doesn't cause extra work, but is also pretty affordable.  Though I just use it for interiors.

For a full exterior...thank goodness! we've only done that once for our own home...I do notch it up and go with Sherwin Williams.  Exterior paint deals with the extremes of weather and sun, so I want the best.  Plus then I should only have to paint it once in my lifetime, lol.

  • Long day at work. Made longer by my laptop computer breaking and having to stay to use my work computer instead (luckily, no security issues).

I spent two hours yesterday looking for a certified shop that could repair it and an IT person even came to my office, but couldn't fix it. I finally took it to a Micro Center, but it'll be a week and a half before someone even looks at it.

    Sigh.

Geez!  What a major hassle.  Good luck with it.
