Let's get this party started!

I am working in the office for the morning.  I have an errand to run locally, so I decided it was just easier to come here and work until lunch, run my errand and then go home.

A big bonus today is that I was able to upgrade our room at the resort to one with a full kitchen!  We initially only have a partial kitchen, so now we won't have to pack our air fryer!  We should also get a jetted tub now too!  The best of all is that it is a free upgrade!  The first customer rep I called said it would be a $50 fee, if the upgrade when through.  So I hung up to see what H though.  He said to go for it, so I called back and the next customer rep said he could do it without the upgrade fee!  Woot!

Yoga tonight.  So far, no more Prime Day purchases! LOL!

Re: Thursday - though it's actually Wednesday :(

  • BabyKitten's flu shot went well. I have a call with the nurse practitioner this afternoon about a dermatologist referral. Apparently she didn't wanna stay near M nor did she wanna listen when they were waiting to go into clinic.

Tomorrow we have a contractor coming - which literally scratches 3 things off the list of "to-do" so I'm excited.
Unfortunately one thing got crossed out that I did not want to yet - my bleeding hearts bush is done. I cannot see it so I think our tree over-took it.

M was home this morning with BabyKitten and apparently she can peel bananas? We're at this stage where it's like "oh, you know how to do that?" lmao She picks up things so quick.

It's a few years away, but has anyone gone to Disney over a birthday?
M & I wanna take BabyKitten eventually and since she's end of May bday, we've considered going over her bday.
    I'm looking online at different benefits but I was hoping to "know" someone who has experienced it {them or kid}
  •  I wish it was Thursday!

Work today. Family is being annoying. My brother is an idiot. And then FI got into it last night a little with his older sister who is honestly one of the most selfish, least self-aware people I know. I’m sure we’ll be hearing about her “hurt feelings” for awhile. I literally don’t have the energy for her. She also told FI she thought he was falling apart because he was so scared of COVID (we’ve been avoiding family gatherings, especially indoor ones, because no one is really taking things seriously) and also that she thought our relationship was falling apart. *eye roll* I can’t with her.

Otherwise SSDD. I have a ton to finish today from the whirlwind that was yesterday. I’m hoping I can catch up. I have a suuuper boring webinar for three hours and I’m bracing myself. Zoom can go back to hell where it belongs.

I was so excited when I saw the title!  Lol. congrats @OliveOilsMom! Sounds like a great upgrade.  I always try to get a jetted tub when I can too.  Jacuzzi jetted. I can live in there. Ugh sorry about the family drama @levioosa. She sounds like a peach.

Nothing new for me.  My friend was over my house yeaterday to take an online course and figure out paperwork for a condo she’s buying.  I had taken out ONE peice of lasagna from my freezer before I found out she was coming. She was at my place from 6-8 and all I wanted to do was eat my dinner but I had nothing to offer her! And she’s the type of person who doesn’t need to eat. Me?  Every few hours or so.

We went to visit my brother this weekend and they did forewarn us that one son was getting over a cold, the other just started.  Not covid.  Anyway, M and I went anyway (I made sure he was ok with it), and now he’s sick.  I’m fine. He usually comes over on Wednesday’s but won’t today despite being a bit better today. It’s nothing but a cold. Now I have time to watch Hubie Halloween, because I’m sure he had no desire for cheesey Halloween movies (set in Salem. MY town!)

  • I have little patience for people that are thinking it's a great idea to have indoor gatherings now.

I turned down a baby shower 3 weeks ago because I didn't see the people often (last time I saw any guests other than MIL was January), the crowd was actually more than current phase 2 allowed in that state and it felt super risky now that I'm living in an area with climbing cases.

And for those who want to say that those are supposed to be gatherings better than than Trump rallies, I work with a H, W and her sister.  All 3 went to a wedding, all 3 were exposed to Covid and all 3 contracted it.  They are now recovered and thankfully had mild cases but it's had a serious effect on many and financially it had a big effect on company productivity.

  • @MissKittyDanger, I grew up 45 minutes from Disneyland (CA, not FL) and going to Disneyland was a frequent birthday present request for myself and my sister, lol.  It's THE BEST for kids.  I hate to sound like an ad, but it really is a magical and super exciting place (for kids).  I assume you all would be more inclined to go to Disney World in Orlando, FL.  I went there once for a conference.  The Magic Kingdom park in Orlando is almost identical to Disneyland.  Disney World just has a whole bunch more parks.

Back then (KIM this was 30+ years ago), the park didn't do anything special for birthdays, though I suppose they probably had birthday packages people could buy.  I know in more recent years people...kids and adults...could get into the park for free on their actual birthday (or maybe one day in their birthday month?).  But I don't know if that is still true.

Some fun history about Disneyland in CA.  Walt Disney had ALWAYS envisioned the "multiple parks" set up that Disney World has.  But, when he was starting out on his theme park idea, funds were limited and most banks wouldn't give him the time of day.  A theme park is very expensive and was a totally new idea, ie very risky.  Bank of America took a risk on him.  He, in turn, was loyal to that bank the rest of his life.  I don't think it's there anymore, but there was even a B of A branch inside the park for decades.

But I digress.  He initially only had the money to build one park.  Disneyland.  But by the time he had the success, reputation, and money to build more...it was too late.  The city of Anaheim...pretty much just miles of orange groves at the time he built Disneyland...had grown up around the theme park.  Now it was a very urban area.  Along with most of So CA.  The kind of giant swathes of land he needed to build other parks didn't exist anymore, anywhere near Disneyland.  So he turned his eyes to FL, which did have tons of vacant land.

  • Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it's Wednesday, not Thursday. I've been a day ahead all week, too.
Aww shit.  That's 2020 for ya!
  • @MissKittyDanger you'd be in good company to celebrate an event at Disney!

They even have buttons for what you're celebrating so cast members can see guests and know when a surprise may be warranted.  Chiquita had a "my first visit" button she wore and a family member has a Facebook photo of her "I'm celebrating being cancer free" on one for her.

  • @levioosa urg family drama, hugs :(

    @short+sassy  Tbh we aren't sure if FL or CA - likely FL just because easier but tbh my life long dream is to go to CA in general {i blame books}
    I've been to FL when I was .... 12 - IN AUGUST
We didn't stay on resort and my plan is to stay on resort

@banana468 do they mix buttons? It'd be a first visit and bday lmao! They didn't have "my first visit" in '99 {lol wow I just realized time frame} so I'm unfamiliar
How old was Chiquita? I was thinking when BK is maybe 7 or 8? Magic of disney but not super young
  • My migraine did not go away and I spent the day lying down listening to "Unsolved Mysteries" in the background.  Still got it, but I can function today.  @MissKittyDanger I tried extra water and caffeine, and unfortunately it didn't work.  Sometimes it does though!  My cousin swears by drinking Coke for migraines.

If you've always wanted to go to CA anyway, go there!  Orlando has theme parks.  That's it.  It's also about one hour away from the beach.

But CA has SO MANY other things to see!  And many more theme parks than Orlando, though they aren't near each other.

I've heard about coke for migraines. I'm not a big coke drinker but I've found more benefits in like gatorade or powerade - I think it's the electrolites

I think the decision will probably come down to price and/or weather.
I think M wants to do CA also but if it's a large price gap, we'll probably do FL - also time zone jumps SUUUUCKKKKKSSSSS
  • @MissKittyDanger we took DD on her first trip to Disney World when she was 4. It was a great age for her. Every time we rounded a corner she gasped with delight. She last all day and never whined. We left DS1 with grandparents. I don't know how it would've been at 7 because DS1 would also have been along.
  • I think 4 and up is good. Any littler and they won’t remember it which matters if it’s going to be your only trip. And I’d go even older personally- it’s a lot of activity and walking and long days. I miss it. One of my first things I want to do when all this is over.
  • Ugh sending all the vibes @levioosa
    The upgrades sound awesome @OliveOilsMom
SSDD here.  I wish it was Thursday too.  It’s sunny here after a few days of rain so I guess that’s a bright spot,
  • @MissKittyDanger there are a bunch of buttons.     If you're celebrating your honeymoon they have buttons for that too.

Chiquito will probably get one assuming our July trip is on.

If you're not going to go a lot I also echo that it's better to wait until kiddo is older.   I've been 3 times and the more vivid memories are from teens and beyond.   That said, they are YOUR memories too.

It is a TON of walking though.   Chiquito will be near 7 when we go next year and I'm on the fence about bringing a stroller.
  • Some wild stuff going on in my tenant's/friend's life that, hopefully, won't bleed over into mine.  But might.

It's a couple, N and J.  N has done a lot of reno work for us over the last few months, plus collects some kind of monthly income from the military, ie he's the breadwinner.  At the beginning of their tenancy (early this year), J made good money working two jobs as a bartender.  But obviously that work has been kaput since March.  She makes side money cleaning houses...including for one of our elderly neighbors we are close with...(though I'm not sure how much) and a few hundred bucks/month in unemployment.  But they aren't just our tenants.  They have also become friends.  Plus they have both been a huge help to our elderly neighbors, who just have a hard time physically doing things like cooking and house cleaning.

They frequently do weekend trips to MS beaches.  They got in a big, loud fight (between themselves) and the police were called.  They were thrown in jail for the night.  J was released the next day.  Unfortunately, N had a warrant out for his arrest.  In another faraway state smh.  Things are still a little up in the air. but it looks like they will be keeping him in custody and he'll be transported back to that state to face those charges.  I think they're drug-related.  Knowing him, probably personal use possession of MJ.

I'm worried about and feel really bad for them.  But also worried about how all of this is going to fall out.  If N is going to be there for a long time or...even worse is convicted and sent to prison...would J stay in NOLA?  Her family is from there and that's where they moved here from.  If she stays, could she still pay November's rent and past that?  If she leaves, how is this going to affect my neighbors who have really come to rely on them, especially her?

I know I shouldn't be worrying about "what ifs" too soon.  But similar to the Geico (I think it's Geico) commercial motto, "That's what I do."  Lol.

At any rate, we're planning to have a talk with her to basically let her know that if they all come to a point where they need to break the lease, we totally understand.  And will work with her to get out smoothly, so none of us have a loss of money and we can potentially return all of her security deposit.  I'm hoping that will open things up to get an idea of what her potential plans might be.

  • Jokes, aside - i already do feel better and my face is less bloated from alcohol, cheese, and a shit ton of salty snacks.  Sleeping better too.  It's amazing what actual nutrients does for your body.

I'm in the office today for the first time in awhile and it feels really good.  Had a long chat with my boss, and we're implementing a few positive changes over the next few months that will help with some of the clutter and coordination while we WFH.  I kinda miss the smooshy baby cheeks though and will be delivering ~a million kisses when i get home.

  • I forgot to mention, I'm really proud of myself today, lol.  My friend posted a Pro-Trump "blurb" she copied from somewhere.  It was basically a hypothetical conversation where a person is asking an anti-Trumper, why they don't like Trump.  The anti-Trumper makes typical statements.  And the questioner "points out facts and why that is not true".

It was happenstance I even stumbled across it, because I don't usually look at her updates.  I had to almost forcefully stop my hands from typing a retort a few times.  But I controlled myself and I didn't.  Because it wouldn't have mattered to anyone in that audience and I don't want to sour things between myself and my friend.  We are good, long-time friends IRL, but she has a regular group on her FB wall that are in lock-step with her political leanings.  Whereas I rarely post on her wall or communicate with her via FB, unless its Messenger.

She has always been on the opposite sides of the political spectrum from me.  For the most part, we have an unspoken mutual agreement to not discuss politics.  So I refrained.  Even though it was hard, lol.

I know most of you are much more active on FB than I am.  And already have friends/relatives that make you seethe with their pro-Trump rheotoric.  But I don't usually run into much of that and I know I shouldn't have been shocked, but I was.

  • It would be nice if it were Thursday (well, really Friday!)

I took advantage of Amazon Prime yesterday. The only really positive thing going on with me at the moment.

@short+sassy , I've experienced what you did and I ended up unfollowing certain friends who were posting really hostile things about the other side. Their ugliness was such that I didn't want to see it in my news feed anymore. I've also blocked certain non-friends who were commenting in that way on posts of my friends.

  • @short+sassy I feel the same way.   I'm a pro life anti Trumper.   On a different note a friend posted today, "Hey pro-life friends this is for you!" and the comment was a story making the FB rounds that was a similar sad story to what a current Senator posted.   A mother was pregnant and due to the growing tumor in her child the baby needed to be induced and the mother's health was in jeopardy.   And there needed to be multiple discussions about making this OK because it was considered an abortion even though the child was very much viable.

And as someone who I'll say time and again as someone pro life this is ALSO why the issue should not be with pro lifers but with those who are legislating something that they have no knowledge of.

-The most pro-life Catholics I know discuss the situations of double effect.   Just like a mother isn't forced to carry an ectopic pregnancy (because she can't!) when a mother's life is in jeopardy there's a need to induce to save a life and the baby very sadly dies as a result.   And the issues we're seeing more and more of are when people vote on situations like this without really thinking.

Not remotely as serious but we see this with the dealership lobby and why many states don't allow Tesla to sell directly to consumers.   My state nearly had this last year when a liquor distributor who was pissed that the local breweries were eating into his profits got a local state senator to propose a bill that would limit how much beer a brewery could sell to the consumer.   Because we do that with all other things right?  It's not enforced at a package store with liquor or beer.   And my local pizza place doesn't have a law preventing me from buying too many pizzas.

Or far more severe was the 3 strikes law signed into effect in CA over 2 decades ago.   Because if you're convicted of 3 felonies you get life in prison with no possibility of parole.   But that's not just 3 rapes or 3 murders.   It can be 3 robberies or 3 other felonies that are not good but are they worthy of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole with no options for a judge to make a judgement?

On something that is SO serious I get really frustrated and increasingly pissed when people claim to legislate something on which they have SO little knowledge.

I was still living in CA when that 3 strikes law was being debated.  There were some tv shows, including LA Law, that underlined your point by having an episode where someone faced life in prison because they had a third non-violent felony that was pretty minor.  Like theft of an item that is more than $X in value.  I know in Louisiana that a theft of more than $250 (cash or item) can be charged as a felony.

Heck, the post about my tenants N and J.  They both have a non-violent felony related to personal possession of MJ.  Hence my guess that is what N's arrest warrant is regarding, plus my H said it had something to do with drugs, but he didn't know the details.  Nowadays, that's not even illegal in a lot of states and to sentence someone to life in prison would be a horrifying tragedy.

But, right.  Most people think of a felony and they think of the big, violent ones.  But there are LOTS of felonies, that probably the majority of offenders are convicted on, that are non-violent.

On a less severe scale, do you know what else is wrong?  That I'm old enough to remember LA Law.  WTH!  How did that happen, lol.
