Re: Oy Monday

  • @MNNEBride, good luck with the inspection!  And the much less pleasant dental stuff.

Overall, I had a great weekend!  I had three mystery shops/audits to do.  They can be kind of a pain because they are really detailed, but pay pretty well for the time involved.  Plus the company deposits to my Paypal account about two weeks later, which is really fast for mystery shopping.

Though I had nightmares right before waking up both Sun. morning and this morning.  That always leaves me feeling a little out of sorts until more of the day gets going.

But yesterday was the best.  The whole day was so pleasant and relaxing.  I slept in.  Then had leftover yummy brunch food with this Strawberry/Raspberry flavored Prosecco bottle I'd bought to try.  Not as good as I hoped it would be, but good enough to drink.

I also found out that NOLA is doing another restaurant month.  Yaass!  It starts today and runs through Nov. 22nd.  Almost all the restaurants have a take-out option also.  I glanced at the restaurants and their menus over the weekend, but need to sit down and create my target list, lol.

  • Weekend was fine. Saturday we went to MILs with the baby for the first time. We had a really great visit and baby did really well until the last half hour.

But H and I had a thing Saturday night over the cat. He got frustrated and yelled at me (which he’s never done) and in front of the baby. There’s still some lingering feelings so yesterday was quiet and uneventful. He apologized but I’m still hurt.

It’s raining and dreary here but hoping to get out for a walk if there’s a break in the clouds.
  • It is feeling like FALL today.

Chiquita has school pictures today so she was PUMPED to pick out clothes and figure out how I'd do her hair.   It's cute and her self-chopped bangs actually don't look half bad.  (side note: earlier this month they stuck straight up and I told DH I unfortunately immediately thought "There's something about Chiquita").

Saturday Chiquita had a soccer game and the team continued their trend of no victories.   That night we had the ILs over for a Costco pot pie and a fire in the backyard.  DH built a pit using our New England potatoes and it looks pretty nice!

Sunday we watched church and did stuff in the house.   I had to catch up on the kiddo religious classes and now we are caught up and current.

Our well water took an interesting turn and it's yellow.  Fingers crossed that it's solved with more softener salt and this isn't spelling a big check.
  • I am not prepared for Monday.  Still so sleepy.

Saturday I had my haircut.  We went for lunch at one of our favorite spots, bought wine/beer, then went home and played Mario Party and watched scary movies all day.  Had a Zoom thing for Pan's Labyrinth, which I had wanted to be better than it was, but I enjoyed watching the movie again.  Sunday was clean the apartment day and holy wow, was it ever bad.  I had to mop twice.

Overall relaxing.  I need a vacation, I think.
  • My weekend was more productive than I thought it would be.  The dog and I had a couple good long walks, and I swapped out my summer wardrobe for my winter wardrobe, did laundry and cleaned up around the house.  I did a little mini spa for myself in the evening and am trying fake nails for the first time.  I'm not sold on them ... they feel weird.  They look pretty, but I don't know if it's worth it for the weirdness.

Good luck with the home inspection, @MNNEBride!  I hope everything is good with the house.

  • I just got done having my boos MRIed.
And then I get to go get my new glasses this afternoon and then the kiddo and I get to go get flu shots (which is always a challenge.  Her not me.)

I also need to get groceries and a step-aunt died so I need to find a sympathy card and whatnot.

The weekend was ok though, the kiddo spent time w/ my folks and my work is busy--but probably still operating at a SERIOUS loss because 'busy' is a numbers cap of 10% of normal capacity.
    I'm unreasonably exhausted--or maybe reasonably because I had a 7 am MRI.

I don't wanna sew, but the kiddo needs a mask that works for her costume and a tail, so I think I have to.  I've got a pile of fabric on my kitchen table.
  • @banana468, you talking about Fall reminded me of how crazy our weather has been.  It was chilly enough on Sat. that, for the first time since Feb., I put a zipped sweatshirt on.in the house.

But now the highs this week are in the mid-80s, lol.  We've been going back and forth between some a/c and no a/c.  Still haven't turned the heater on yet, though.  Our electrical bill was only $60 last month!  Though we do have solar panels which roughly cuts our bill in half.

When I lived in the country, ours used to do that whenever we had a lot of rain.  Hopefully yours is nothing serious!  I remember the headaches of using a well.  Best tasting water ever, but we were always worried that it would get contaminated.  It was a bit close to a barn with livestock.

We did have a lot of rain recently.  That's another theory in the entire situation.   My potted plants are a pool.
  • I'm in Chicago for an extended weekend. First time to see DD and family since before my surgery. I sure have missed those little guys. They have changed so much in two months. DD is fighting all day sickness still. Hopefully it will go away soon since she is 14 weeks now. I plan on coming back up for Halloween and later in November for SIL's birthday. They are planning a two night get away nearby so H and I will stay with the boys. If DS1 and DIL don't come home for Thanksgiving (they are planning to but I wouldn't be surprised if they changed their minds), we will come up here with DS2 for Thanksgiving. That is if Indiana is still on Chicago's travel ban list. Just to be clear, we can come up here, we just need to stay at DD's house. We can't go to public places unless we quarantine for 2 weeks here. We usually don't go anywhere except maybe parks so it really isn't a big deal to stay at the house. I'm headed home tomorrow so I can go to PT on Wednesday.
  • @MNNEBride, inspection story:

--The first non owner-occupied duplex I bought needed a lot of work.  I had already haggled and analyzed the deal quite a bit with the wholesaler (middle man).  We were at a good place and fair price, already taking into account the substantial repairs needed..  Time for the inspection.  I didn't even do a full one.  Just the major systems.

The inspector found something neither myself nor the wholesaler could have known about.  The foundation hadn't failed...yet.  But it would within the next few years if the area between the bottom of the foundation and ground wasn't buttressed by pumping sand into it.  I'm thinking to myself, "I've never heard of such a thing.  But sand?  Pfft, how expensive can that be."  Oh, but I'm glad I asked the inspector about the cost!  Apparently it is VERY expensive, lol.  Try $4K!  For sand, lol.  Though it did turn out to be 5 tons of sand.  I went back to the wholesaler and told him, as he knew. that I was already at my max. price.  He needed to take $4K off the purchase price or I was going to walk.  He did and we closed about three weeks later.  My real cost ended up being $3800, so my inspector was pretty accurate on that.

As an aside, we would have closed one week sooner, but unpaid property taxes popped up and needed to be paid off before closing.  He and the seller argued who would be responsible for that, for a few days.  TBH, that should have 100% been the seller.  The wholesaler didn't even own the house!  But he ended up paying the property taxes to make sure the deal went through.  It was a $3K gamble on his part if it didn't, though.  But, despite lowering my purchase price by $4k and then shelling out $3K for the unpaid taxes, he still made something like $25K for just being the middle man.  Not bad for the fairly small amount of time he spent on the deal!

  • We had SUCH a nice weekend.  We went over to IL's late afternoon on Friday and spent the night.  H and I came home early Saturday morning and cleaned the entire house top to bottom and FINALLY got one of the big dressers ready for stain (this is the bedroom set that got from the curb like 6 months ago and has been sitting in our garage...). IL's brought the babe back early evening.  Yesterday was meal prep, football, and hanging with the babe!

Our grass is finally coming in really well from all the landscape work we had done a few weeks ago and looks great!  I'll try to upload a few pics soon!
  • We had a pretty good weekend. On Saturday I did a hike with FSIL and then we had dinner at our place. Sunday FI and I had date night which was nice. It’s back to the grind today and I’m already stressed about this week. Last week at work sucked and this week will be even worse with how short staffed we are. Also we got Delilah fixed on Thursday and I’m a little worried she herniated. The incision site did not look great this morning. So FI is taking her into the vet today to get looked at. Hopefully it’s just new bruising and swelling and nothing that needs a follow up surgery.

I'm baaaccck!  San Diego was awesome.  It was HOT, but no humidity meant it wasn't that bad.  We went to La Jolla, Liberty Station, the zoo, Ocean Beach, Torrey Pines (my fave!), and a bunch of restaurants (all outdoor seating w/social distance).  We spent a decent amount of time being busy, but also getting to relax too.

We came back to shit weather.  But I like hoodies and boots, so bring on fall.  We voted on Saturday.  It took about an hour.   I posted on FB that I was voting and DH's dumbass boot-licking Orange fuckface loving family were posting "Trump 2020" on my posts. WTF?  They've never cared about elections until...now?  DH told me I could delete.  I responded to his cousin "LOL, not a chance" and bunch of people liked it so...fuck them.

Yesterday, FIL came over to watch football.  I stayed busy unpacking and fully switching out my wardrobe/shoes, did some baking, and hung out stitching in my room watching the end of Schitt's Creek.  I sobbed at the finale.  DefConn was watching with me and was all, "Why are you crying?"  LMAO

My 20th workaversary was Friday.  I can't pick out my gift until next year, which is bunk.  DH's cousin and his wife were supposed to come to town this coming weekend, but she just found out she's pregnant with #2 and has all day sickness.  I had a spidey sense they were going to flake.  Ah well.

Jet lag is still kicking my ass a little.
Welcome back!! So glad you all had a great vacation, you all definitely needed that!

I watched the finale last week too but it was during a late night feeding so the baby was the only one who saw me sob!
  • @mrsconn23, 20 years!  Wow!  I wish for that kind of job security and longevity.  Or at least I would have in my 20s or 30s, lol.  For my one-year anniversary at a previous employer, I was shocked one of the choices in the catalog was a really nice looking Pandora bracelet.  Other than that, they had an anti-employee attitude with some toxic policies.

My current employer only does gifts at 5-year intervals.  And you can't choose.  It's the same gift for everyone at each interval.  It's nice things, but with the corporate logo.  I picture a catalog somewhere in HR titled something like "Executive Gifts 'R Us", lol.

  • Sounds like a fab vacation @mrsconn23.  love your very mature response  to DH’a comments.
Glad everyone had a great weekend too.

mine didn’t start out so great. Friday my friend came over, but her ex was kicking her out of his place because suddenly he was demanding money for her stay (which is fine, if it was agreed upon upfront but 2 weeks in he suddenly wants money?!?) so I went with her to grab her things, knowing she wasnt going to pay him and knowing he can get agreesive.  He did - but my friend got into her car and we drove off before the cops could  be called.  Fun night.  🙄

Saturday was better.  Met my friends/daughter at a farm & pumpkin patch and I spent way to much on homemade salsa’s, bread mixes and coffee’s but man were they GOOD! After that, we met up with M and did dinner and a drive through haunt.  It was well done, but not scary as it was all done in the car, so characters would come up to the car to spook you.  Kinda knew it was comming....  We weren’t supposed to record or take pictures, so naturally I took pictures.  My friends seemed to like M, and we stayed up till 1 with them. I’m hoping for more double dates in the future because it was fun.

I had to bring some of my friends things to my place on Friday since they didn’t all fit in her car, so she’s picking that up tonight.

  • I'm glad you were able to help your friend @CharmedPam  I just read about the drive thru haunting things. The thing I wondered was is there any chance someone could get hurt like if the driver freaks out and accidentally runs someone over by hitting the gas? Or running into another car?
  • Would love anyone’s take on a Covid situation- don’t want to ask anyone IRL but need opinions. One of my closet friends is turning 40 in a few weeks and has just been really upset at Covid spoiling her plans, which I get. She’s been dithering over making any plan to replace “weekend in Barcelona” which has obviously been off the table for months. At this point, she wants to do a dinner of roughly 12 people. I said I’d be fine with that so long as it is outside. Then she sent an option that is inside, in a wine cellar, so no windows outside, private room. And I said no, I wouldn’t be okay with that, I don’t do indoor dining. Couple weeks go by and I get the invite and it’s for the wine cellar. Her wife asked what my thoughts were last night (out of earshot of the birthday girl) and acknowledged they knew I wouldn’t like it. So now, do I go? Or not? It’s looking like 4 people will be people I regularly socialize with, 4ish people I don’t. I’m not at particularly high risk, I live alone and work from home, and I’m not all that cautious, but I don’t really do things outside my small circle inside without masks. She’s a drama queen who will be hurt if I don’t go and I would be really sad to not be there. But also I already told you I thought this was unsafe?
  • omg @kvruns that photographer did an amazing job! Great pics for the future.  And yeah a driver could totally run someone over and not even on purpose- I mean I had to sign a waiver for everyone attending before I went, but I will admit... I didnt read the whole thing.  Does anyone?

    @charlotte989875 that’s WAY to cute!

@STARMOON44 - So I would go, and only sit next to/be within 6 feet of your inner circle.  Just be careful of the people you don’t normally associate with if you can?

  • @banana468 oh yeah for sure I am feeling a bit of that. I think the issue is she was adamant that 15 people be invited, and none of our local restaurants would take that large of a reservation for our doors, and also that she wanted something fancy. And I’m just not sympathetic to that tbh! There’s a pandemic, edit your guest list and do it anywhere outside.

Ugh. That’s why I wanted to get some outside views because, this one thing aside, I do really love her and don’t want to be making this decision out of pettiness.
  • @CharmedPam thanks! those are actually just a few we took on our own afterwards that my DH edited a bit on the generic apple software.
  • @STARMOON44, I have been dining in at restaurants a few times a month since August.  But only with my H or coworkers I'm exposed to every day, anyway.  Masks are worn in public areas of my office and we wear masks until we are eating.  So, I'm not as careful as a lot of people are.  Some of it, like work, being no choice.  Restaurants in my area already require tables be 6 ft. away from each other, staff members wear masks, and customers wear masks when they are not at their table.  So I feel fairly safe about it.

With all that said, I wouldn't be okay with your friend's plan.  It sounds like a fairly enclosed room with at least 4 people, ie up to 4 "households", that you don't know.  No one will be wearing a mask when they are eating or dinking.

You also already gave her notice that you are not okay with an inside event.  I know it's disappointing for yourself and your friend.  And the chances are that everyone would be fine.  But there are also a lot of examples where small gatherings led to multiple people in them getting COVID.  There is no way to know if someone in that group is asymptomatic and spreading the virus, because they don't know they are sick.
