Wedding Woes

Almost there..

Yay for almost-Friday.  I had a Halloween checklist that I completed this morning so feeling good.  Hope everyone is feeling well and has a good day!

Re: Almost there..

  • I’m so ready for the weekend. Last night was not enjoyable. It took me two hours to get home and I ended up anger running my hiking trail for about 2.5 miles before I simmered down enough to hike it normally. I don’t run anymore and my knees are feeling it today. Apparently there was a fire alongside the road I use for work and traffic was completely stopped for an hour. On a one lane each way, no shoulder stretch that lasts about 20 miles. Ugh. I’m starting work 30 min early today so I can take a full hour lunch and do my three mile walk. Then all I have to do is a quick weight work out at home before cleaning.

Good vibes for the interview/company! @Jen4948

  • Jen - go with your gut!  But still interview, it's helpful to keep up those skills!  And you also never know what gets swept up in firewalls!

This week is moving pretty quickly considering last week was my vacation!  I'm in the office today and will keep up with coming in on Thursday as long as our numbers don't go crazy.  They have been going up (where haven't they), but its mostly in North Jersey.

I still have so much stuff to get done this week for Halloween!  Tonight, DD and I will carve our pumpkin.  Its a white pumpkin and has a long tall stem that's kinda straight, so I'm going to see if I can figure out a way to make it look like a unicorn, since DD is in love with them right now!  We also have some mini gourds and pumpkins, so I may make it look like the white pumpkin is eating a smaller one.  Maybe an evil unicorn pumpkin?

I also still need to fill up the smaller paper bags with candy I purchased.  We are putting out a small folding table and putting a few bags out at a time, so that hopefully one kid takes one bag each.  I will probably rope H to help me with that.  They announced our TOT hours are 2-6, which is perfect for a Saturday!  DD is also super excited she can wear her costume to daycare tomorrow.  She is going to be Chip from the Netflix show, Chip & Potato.  It won't go to daycare tomorrow, but I'm going to surprise DD with a very small stuffed Potato that I purchased off Etsy on Saturday.  It is so cute!
  • Thanks! I'm going with my gut. But right now it isn't really telling me anything.
  • Today I learned that 300 miles inland is not far enough to not have a hurricane. Or tropical storm or whatever. We woke up at around 5 this morning to very loud winds, up to 50 mph. I live in a wooded area with a lot of old growth, so that's kind of freaky. Luckily, we just have some branches down on our property; no real damage. My neighbor a few houses down has a huge tree (3 ft diameter) in the middle of their driveway within a few feet of their garage. Our power was out until about an hour ago, but somehow we're lucky enough to have it restored. Internet is still down, but I'm able to use my work phone as a mobile hotspot, so we're able to work now. It sounds like half my city is out of power right now. It also sounds like NOLA got hit pretty bad.

Nothing much else going on. I guess we'll be cleaning up the yard once it dries up. I'm on the fence about doing anything halloween. My sister invited us over, but I'm not sure how I feel about it. We might just turn off all the lights and watch movies in the basement.
  • It's a rainy, cold, gloomy day and I'm over it.

Workouts are starting to suck less.   And I say this as the kid who was always the last to finish the mile run.   I speak of my progress because if I don't talk about it I fear I'll stop doing them.

I came out of a SUPER contentious call today with a customer and the pretzel twisting that they have makes me bang my head on a wall.   You could hear our sales manager's abruptness with them and perhaps that was his way of giving them the middle finger on the phone.   I can't support the approach he is taking but I don't disagree with his words either.

  • We’ve had some days. The cat got groomed yesterday at our house so H took the dog in the woods. Well the dog got a cut on his ear and every time he shakes his head it starts to bleed again. He came into the nursery when I was feeding in the middle of the night and shook so blood everywhere. H insists we don’t need to go to the vet. Well all morning we’ve been alternating trying to cover the cut and cleaning blood off of things. I’m trying not to yell “take the dog to the damn vet”.

I hope the dog is okay!

Charlotte - Poor pup!  And, I would tell H to take the dog to the vet!  That poor thing and also poor you for cleaning up that blood.  I would relate the story of you feeding the baby when the dog came in.  Ask him, how would he feel if were exposed feeding his son and the dog just splattered blood all over him!

ETA - That sounds weirder than I meant it to!
  • Maybe a strange question.  Our realtor has been great through our home buying process.  We'd like to get her a bottle of wine to thank her.  However, DH doesn't drink and I rarely do.  What would be a good wine to gift?  I know she's done winery tours with her friends but have no idea what she likes.

Thanks! The dog would be fine if he didn’t keep rubbing his ear them shaking his head. The cut is really minor.

The blood at night while gross thankfully didn’t end up on the baby but I was so mad about the whole thing.  It’s been a long day.

Thanks @jen4948! Good luck with the interview!
  • Since my post went through, I'll tell you a little more, lol. This was actually kind of neat and surreal, but the storm's "eye" went over us also.  It was hard winds and torrential rain for about 90 minutes.  Then it slowed to a drizzle.  Then the sun came out around 6:15pm. Clear skies, no rain.  But the sunlight had a reddish tinge, which was cool but weird.  My H said that's because it was being filtered through storm clouds higher in the atmosphere. It was clear for almost an hour and then the rest of the storm hit for about another 90 minutes.
I hope everything is otherwise ok!
  • @short+sassy, Glad to hear you're safe with minimal damage!

  • Glad to hear you are safe @short+sassy!

It is gray and cold here  - I hate it. Tomorrow I'm headed up to Chicago. I'm super bummed that I can't go to a girls' get together tonight but know it is best. One of the gals hasn't been particularly "safe" so I just don't feel as if I can go. I wish she hadn't been invited, but I'm not hosting so....... Yes the other gals know what she has been up to - travel to and from Florida via plane, taking her elderly mother to appointments, being around her school age grandchildren and having workmen in her house. I know I sound judgmental but I wish she would just say she isn't coming for  everyone's safety sake. I'm going to lie when I tell the host I'm not coming because I don't want to call my friend out. Just bummed that's all.
  • @Jen4948 Good luck!

@short+sassy I'm glad that things are okay.  I hope that the power comes back on soon for everyone.
