Thanksgiving Thursday

And it feels like any old day for me.  I already hit some online Black Friday sales.  Tatcha, my favorite skincare line has 20% off, and I litterally had an 8 pc $450 set in my bag, but the code didnt apply to sets - which was actually a good thing, because I don’t have time to apply 8 different skincare products. I ended up with a rice cleanser, eye cream and the vitamin c mask (this mask is amazing!!).

Food today for me will be leftovers.  I have so much leftovers from the last few days to make fresh meals!

Re: Thanksgiving Thursday

  • It's so quiet at work, that I'm looking for things to do.  This will come back to bite me - December is going to be insane at work.  I have tomorrow off though!  I'm looking forward to a day off.

@CharmedPam A rice cleanser?  I've never heard of this!  What are the advantages of it?  The vitamin C mask sounds great!

It’s just an extra exfoliant but smoother and less harsh.  Should brighten the skin! Haven’t used this one yet but love the tatcha line so I’m hoping for good results!

    Enjoy your day off!

  • My dad and I have decided not to celebrate Thanksgiving this year.

I'm still out of work. And my mom's medical issues continue. She may have internal bleeding among other problems, will probably never again be able to walk unaided, and after she is discharged from the hospital, will have to stay for some time at a rehab center where she can't have visitors.

    Happy Thanksgiving.
  • @CharmedPam I've heard good things about Tatcha. I think I'll keep an eye out when I eventually get low on skincare and check it out :) Not just age, but covid is making me be more focused on skincare.

@kerbohl I've had same deal. Look for things to do but somehow get busy guh lol

M has been home with BK yesterday and today - daycare is having bathroom renos and would disturb everyone - and M says today BK is just mildly lethargic :( He gave her a teether and she started going to town on it.
One molar popped thru fully in 2 days, and at least she isn't getting a mild fever like she has in the past. Poor bub seems to just be super uncomfortable.
Could be a growth spurt too - remainder of one as she doesn't seem much bigger but is sleeping like mad.

Pulled the trigger on SupperWorks for December
I told M that January stuff is already up and they have a really good pork chop I may do, even though likely BK won't eat it - we can plan and give her nuggets or leftovers.

Anyone else finding it's super hard to get up in the morning? 2x this week we've gotten out of bed late and had to rush :\ Not our thing lol
  • Ever since I hit 41, @MissKittyDanger, I have not been able to get up!  I used to be able to get up, workout and go! Can’t anymore.  Need those extra hours.

@Jen4948, this is such horrible news. I hope it’s not bad as predicted.  Thinking of you and your family

  • @Jen4948 Have you heard back from any of those many interviews you did?  Are they maybe waiting to get back after the holiday?

  • @CharmedPam I swear this past week is like that. I have to tell myself "ok 5min then get up" or else I fall back asleep. Guh lol

    @Jen4948 hugs :(

I've heard back from many of them. They all declined to make me an offer. Some declined even to interview me. In one case where I did interview (in person) and it seemed to go really well, the recruiter just emailed back, "They hired someone else. So sorry" and that was it. In many others, they smarmed that I have "wonderful credentials" and am "well-qualified" and "I'm sure you'll find something soon" but would not hire me themselves. One emphasized (multiple times) their "biblical values" while simultaneously insisting that "they didn't think I was qualified" to work there. (I'm not sure why they even interviewed me. They indicated this right at the beginning of the interview, wasting everyone's time.)

The only offer was a three-month tax season offer from Intuit which is turning out to be more trouble than it's worth. I have to go someplace on Saturday that can "verify" my Social Security card and driver's license in person. Intuit also is demanding a photograph of me for its "profile" and for some reason keeps rejecting the ones I upload because of a computer glitch. And the IRS keeps rejecting my payment for my PTIN (required by Intuit) because of another computer glitch claiming it "cannot locate" my bank account. (It has no fucking trouble finding that same account when I need to pay my taxes.)

Nope, no "prospects" other than more of the same shit.
  • Oh @Jen4948 I’m so sorry about your Mom!
  • Happy Thanksgiving friends! I’m thankful for all of you here.

I did my virtual turkey trot this morning and H made me a finish line complete with snacks, a trophy, a winners podium, and signs. He’s the best.

We’ve had our first course of lobster and Mac and cheese. My sister sent us some delicious desserts we’ve already sampled!
    Sounds wonderful!

Interviewing is a nightmare at the best of times, but goodness, what is with that?  My cousin was going through that - she didn't attend the church that the place she was interviewing at supported.  They pressured her to become a member, and she flat out told them no.  I mean, if I interviewed at a job and they needed to talk about my religious beliefs, I don't want to work for you.  Even if they do align, it's none of your business and it doesn't ultimate affect how I do my job (though it might affect how I fit into the work culture, so I can see that).  Unless the job is for, like, a religious institute.

I don't know either. It really bothered me how much they kept bringing that up. The job was at a public accounting firm, so it really was unnecessary at best and inappropriate.

Jen- I am so sorry about your mom. And the job front.
  • We are doing Thanksgiving tomorrow as it is not an actual holiday here, lol. But I spent the day making pies, chopping veggies, prepping as much as I can.

Idk if anyone reads postsecret but there was a 100year old Family Secret apple pie recipe posted the other day, I made it and it looks great. I can't wait to try it. It is so different than any apple pie I have made before.
  • I’m so sorry @Jen4948

Not too much going on here. I’m making food throughout the day. My attempt at pie crust was atrocious so I’m just waiting for a pre-made crust I have to defrost. Oops. I am great with fillings and general cooking, but baking/pastry is not something I’m good at. I’m just waiting until most of the food has been cooked to open a bottle of wine.

    @missJeanLouise what was the recipe?

  • Thanks @missJeanLouise and @levioosa. What's the apple pie recipe? It sounds delicious.
  • @missJeanLouise, thanks for the recipe. Yum!
  • I'm so sorry about your Mom @Jen4948 . I hope the prognosis is wrong and that she does much better.

I cooked all afternoon and we had dinner at usual dinner time. Normally we have an early dinner/late lunch for big holiday meals. With the twins here though we need to keep to their schedule. I was whipped by the time I went to bed. DS2 is so good with them and they clearly love him! That is so gratifying to see. We Zoomed with DS1, DIL, my SIL and FIL. DD told them (SIL and FIL) that she is pregnant (well actually the boys told them that there is a baby in Mama's belly). They were excited! I didn't get around to calling my stepmother so I need to do that.

Overall it was a good day.

  • I am here to report, the pie is delicious. I think I would like it with sliced or diced apples more but the flavor is great. *Thumbs up*
  • I saved that apple pie recipe and want to make fhat, @missJeanLouise.  Of course my diabetic self is wondering if a sugar substitute and almond milk/cream may work?

  • Sorry about your mother’s condition @Jen4948, sending healthy vibes
