Wedding Woes

Monday, Monday

COVID test was negative!  Babe had a low fever and was pretty sick all weekend but is thankfully off again today to get back to 100%.  I did get lots of snuggles (he is not a snuggly kid) so that was a positive.  We made some good progress getting our basement organized and are hopefully going to paint the family room this weekend!  Insanely busy week at work this week and then hopefully will be able to get more settled into a solid work/school routine.

How was everyone's weekend?

Re: Monday, Monday

  • @Casadena great news about the negative test and feeling better. Even better about the snuggles!
  • Weekend was boring here. Too cold to want to play in the snow (well OK let's be real I'm not suggesting it so if B doesn't ask I'm not bringing it up).

He was excited from his Valentine's Day party Friday and was excited Sunday too. I got him a huge stuffed dragon after Christmas on sale and he loves it. Normally I don't like buying stuffed animals bc he has a ton and this one is like 2/3 as big as he is but I knew he'd like it. Looks so funny when he was sleeping.

Guessing daycare will be closed tomorrow with the snow we have coming in today. Got 1-2" last night but lots more coming today. Ugh.
  • Glad babe is okay! @Casadena

Weekend was pretty good. I got my second dose on Friday and felt pretty bad on Saturday. I somehow (probably stupidly) forced out a ten mile hike but I was dying the whole time. Then I came home, relaxed for a little bit and then felt well enough to split a bottle of wine with FI. We had some nice BCBC and exchanged some small gifts a day early since I don’t like having drinks on work nights. Some progress was also made on the bathroom so that was good.

Sunday we slept in and then I did another hike and ran some errands. I felt like a whole new person on Sunday. I knew I wasn’t feeling well on Saturday but the extreme contrast between how I felt Saturday vs Sunday was somehow surprising. Back at work and it’s SSDD. We’ve had two call offs, which isn’t fun but we’ll just have to make do as always. I’m taking off a few days for my birthday in two weeks so I’m just trying to make it through these next two weeks of work with as much sanity and good attitude as possible.

  • Our weekend was pretty low key. DH just got his car back on Friday from the dealership and he broke down AGAIN yesterday on the way to pick up our grocery order. So now we’re in the market for an SUV. He really likes the Highlander, but I think it’s too big for me. I have a crossover and I still have issues with the size.

We finally got this calendar hung after two months. I’ve put my Cricut to good use since getting it for Christmas. The lettering is a little crooked, but well, babies

Well, there's a knottie#s on another board whose MIL is my age, so that's depressing..haha.

Weekend was quiet. I basically just watched Netflix and ate and cried. I started Cobra Kai and the Elisa Lam documentary. Both really good. I also watched When Harry Met Sally last night because apparently I hadn't cried enough Friday PM to Sunday AM.

  • Weekend was pretty nice. It was cold and rainy all weekend, so didn't get to do much outside. We did get a lot of chores done around the house and had a nice wine and cheese night last night. I also read about half my book for book club Thursday. I need to find the time to finish it before we meet.

Nothing much else going on. It's so cold here.
  • Weekend was decent!

Saturday I had a Zoom shower for good friends expecting their first and then went on a cleaning spree in prep for Sunday.  Saturday night DH expressed some frustration and it's something I need to work on.

Sunday I got up early-ish, put a pork roast in the oven for pulled pork and worked out.  We watched church, had breakfast, exchanged V-Day gifts and the kids got their gifts and then I taught their Catechism before we rushed in prep for my uncle and the ILs to watch the Daytona 500.

MIL was in a foul mood and left early which was fine by me.  She clearly didn't sleep well, started to nap on our couch and really should have stayed home.

FIL and uncle left at 7, and DH and I put the kids to bed to chill out and have some V-Day activities in front of the race.   He stayed up to watch the end (after midnight?) and I went to dreamland.

Have to giggle at a wedding related topic:  DH's youngest cousin is engaged.  She's had the date set since last spring (in May of this year).  This weekend the invitation showed up.  Things that are annoying me:
-The date is written out in Roman numerals.  The pretentiousness of that annoys me.
-We are invited to the ceremony, pick a meal for the reception and inside the response card is a note that says they can only have family and WP at the reception.

I'm not surprised surprised that they have to limit attendance but I bristled at the way that they went about this and think they could have handled it better.  I have two family members on my side who haven't set dates yet for their own weddings.  They could have just not invited us and I would have more than understood.  Instead this is asking us to figure out if we'll come to just the ceremony OR if we'd go to the ceremony and reception.

And from what I see our kids aren't invited (although they can't be turned away from the church) making the childcare situation in Covid all that more fun.

Good so far, though I heard it moves slowly. I just finished the 2nd episode.

Sorry to hear about car woes. What kind of crossover do you have? I have a VW Tiguan and even though it is the same size as my Sorento was it feels smaller when I drive. Might be an option if you think your current one feels too big
  • YAY no Covid!   FIL gets his vaccine this week.

Friday night, DefConn and DH went to FIL's house.  I ran to the store and then got some alone time to watch Netflix and stitch.

Saturday, we went to a couple flooring stores and then had a late lunch.  Afterward we stopped at Menards to buy new showerheads and headed home.  FIL came over and they worked on DefConn's pinewood derby car. FIL took DefConn home with him, so DH and I had some living room bcbc.

Sunday, we went to another flooring store and I think we found what we're going to get flooring-wise.  This last place we went is a massive flooring store and you can pick it up and take it home.  Plus they have all the underlayment, finishes, transitions, etc. right there.  We picked up DefConn on our way home and then hunkered down.  I made breakfast casserole that we can heat and eat all week, and made bread in my Dutch oven.  We had salad, filet, asparagus, and potatoes for dinner.  DH brought me wine, flowers, and chocolate for V-day.  I got him cigars and chocolate.  We got DefConn some candy and a couple little things we knew he'd like.

Worky work today.  We're supposed to get a ton of snow for our area (any dump of snow over 6in or so causes massive issues), so we'll see if we get delayed or canceled tomorrow.  I'm hoping if it's enough snow that DH will work from home.  I have a big crockpot of chicken soup cooking for tonight's dinner.  We'll have the bread I made yesterday with it.
  • I started that documentary on Friday too! I’m intrigued  by that storyline.  Actually Ghost Adventurer’s just did a investigation at the hotel so after I watch the documentary, I’ll line it up with the investigation show.

Yeah, the childcare situation sucks @banana468, but maybe make it a “date” night?  Is it out of town?

weekend was low key, we didn’t really do anything for vday.  I bought some sexy lingerie for it but didnt get a chance to change in it. I told him I bought some nice stuff as well. Something different from my granny panties, but lawd, I like my granny panties.

Today I had the countertop people come back to put brackets on my dishwasher for me since they didnt have them with them on Tuesday’s install.  They came at 9:30, left at 9:40.  Then I got an e-mail from headquarters telling me they were sorry and I’d have to reachedule that “fix” because so many people called off and there’s not enough installers to do it.  I looked at my phone and was like “who the eff was in my house then?”

  • Yeah, the childcare situation sucks @banana468, but maybe make it a “date” night?  Is it out of town?

Well, if we went to just the ceremony (an early afternoon one) we would need to account for at least 4.5 to 5 hours factoring drive time (1.5 hours ish each way) and the ceremony (most likely in Latin).  Due to Covid, the people in our pod are MIL and FIL (who would probably go) and my uncle (who has not babysat the kids since he last did it with my aunt before she died).   My mom and dad will be vaccinated by then but Dad almost needs a sitter on his own so I'm not sure if it's totally fair to ask my mom.

I think what's ultimately going to happen is that DH drives my ILs and I hang out here with the kiddos and either do something at home or hope for a nice day and we go out somewhere outside.  But I can't pack them up in their Sunday best to be gone for 4.5 hours to not feed them nor do I honestly think that May 2021 is going to be all that much better for indoor events.

Covid has really hurt so many things and I get that the couple just didn't want to move their date but from my seat I would rather just not be invited rather than add one more logistical issue.
  • H tested negative - yay! Now he can ahead with the vaccine next month. Weekend was pretty low key. Worked out and cleaned house on Saturday. Had Zoom call with college friends Saturday night. Sunday worked out, video church and H fixed filets, potatoes, asparagus and apple tart ala mode. We exchanged cards and he gave me a candy bar. We have never really done gifts for V-day. We are almost done watching the Americans. I'm starting Firefly Lane today.

Discovered two friends (married couple) unfriended me on FB. They are Trumpers but didn't post a ton politically. I don't either, but I guess what ever I did post annoyed them. Oh well, they are the only ones in a social group we are in together that did that. I guess I will see if we are still included in social activities.

I'm just waiting for the snow to start. We only got about an inch or so last night. Today is suppose to be much worse.

I started that one this weekend too! I wouldn't say it's great (so far), but it's addictive.

I'm at the end of episode 2 and am intrigued to see the story unfold. I didn't read the book.  I like Kathryn Heigel with dark hair.  Oh and the music is right up my alley.

It’s okay! We are In the position where he can just take my car to work which is very helpful! I have a GLC300. They have a smaller option that just came out - I think I might look at it in the coming weeks.
  • Daycare just announced they're closing at 3:30pm today - only an hour notice is a bit rough but I'm OK with them closing early to ensure staff can get home. The snow has really picked up in the last hour

Yeah, DH should be on his way home.  I heard Amazon closing down.   My sister said her plant is closing at 7pm.  It hasn't snowed like this in a few years.

I bet we won't hear about school until late, late tonight or they'll hold off until the morning because our district is annoying like that.  It's supposed to keep this up all damn night. The snow isn't supposed to taper off until 2am.
  • I think we're due for what you've got in a few days and we're told "this is the storm to watch."

We keep hearing that though.  I'm tired of being a storm voyeur.

Yes, but would you currently want a 25-yr-old manchild dictating what you wear?? 🤢

Hope everyone in the blizzard’s path stays safe.

@banana468 I heard ours coming later this week is the one to watch too.  Like...more than
we’ve already had this winter? Or even this month??
  • Weekend was good here.  I cleaned on Saturday and our realtor texted that she wanted to drop something off.  She stopped by with some Valentine cookies from a new coffee shop bakery that just opened.  After she left we ordered Italian from our favorite place.  We haven't been there since Covid.

Sunday was recliner church and laundry.  We exchanged cards and have a $1 limit on gifts.  I got a Snickers bar and I bought him a bottle of a root beer he likes.  We ate leftover Italian food and hung out.  It was below zero all weekend and I think the high was -7!  A dusting of snow Saturday morning but nothing big.

This morning I we had no water coming out of our master bath sinks.  Ended up calling a plumber for frozen water line.  They were able to thaw the line quickly.  Fortunately it just involved out master sinks.  We'll need to be aware of keeping those faucets running when we are having this frigid weather.

It was 28 degrees warmer in our deep freeze than it was outdoors on Sunday.

Is there a chance they deactivated their account?  I know there was a large FB purge once the censorship with Twitter/Parler and other accounts began.  Is there a way you can tell whether they are still active?  (Full disclaimer......I typically would have no idea whether I had been defriended, nor would I put forth much effort investigating it.  Just thought I would put out a second scenario.)

I have not posted much in recent months.  Much has hit the fan with my immediate family including a fairly nasty surgery for my husband.  All is improving and moving forward with much of it, but it has taken me away from some of my typical routine.

I was surprised to see so many here remarking on requiring Covid tests yet.  I have yet to need a test and have been supporting students with special needs in person since last September.  I have had my first vaccine now.  (I did NOT want to get it but there is a good chance DS would not want us traveling to see them unless I did.  I have only started taking the flu shot in the past two years.)  I dread the second dose as I am hearing of so many feeling ill from it.  I asked DS if I could skate by on just the initial dose but he was not a fan of that idea LOL

I am also over the snow this year.  It has been fun with the milder temperatures but this 2 week sub zero scheisse is bananas!  Depending on where you are in Indy, you are expected to get a wallop, ILBM.  Our district called a "remote" day a few weeks ago when the snow fall long and hard.  Parents got really irritated because they wanted a "snow day" rather than a remote day of learning (we have been hybrid since last September).  You truly cannot win for losing!

It is good to "catch up" and I hope to return more often.  A quick skim of the boards and they almost look like "the good old days" with the questions and concerns.  PPD's, MIL issues, multiple MOH's......everything old is new again!!!  (Except me LOL)

How’s your H doing? Hope he’s recovering well!!

We got tested ahead of seeing family at Christmas. My sister had a potential exposure so we all tested then quarantined before seeing each other. My niece just had to get tested because her daycare instructor tested positive and they won’t let the kids back unless they’re negative. In our area tests are widely available, free or covered by insurance, so many schools/ employers are requiring negative tests if there’s an exposure.
  • Good to see you @MobKaz. Hope your H is healing well. H was potentially exposed and with DD coming here with her family in a few weeks (and being pregnant) we wanted to be cautious. DD has been vaccinated as a healthcare worker. She would totally agree with your son - you should definitely get the second vaccine dose. When are you planning on seeing them? I know it has been a long time since you have been out there.

Yes we got a lot of snow yesterday/last night. H will be out with the snow blower later this morning. Thankfully we don't have to be anywhere today.
  • nice to see you @MobKaz  I hope your DH is healing OK and things get back to normal for you
