Wedding Woes

Is everyone still long weekending?

Not me.  I didn’t take any extra time off.
Remember how excited I was for my house cleaner?  Yeah.  She was a no show.  She let me know she was running late, and I told her I was fine with that.  Then she completely ignored my communication IM’s and the next day rescheduled me with no explanation or apology.  I ended up doing the fastest 50 minute cleaning job when I realized she wasn’t going to show up and my parents were 1 hr away.

So anyone who wants to use homeaglow.com, there is no customer service:  it’s very much like an uber app where its main function is to connect you with independent workers.  So I could only communicate with my cleaner directly (it became one sided at one point) and noone to complain to.  I was kinda worried she could have been in an accident but then she rescheduled w/out saying a word.  I’m a single person, no pets, and ended up doing it myself.  How dirty do you think I can get it within 7 days?  I dropped her reschedule request and kept it for next month, but my faith in this company is less than 50% at this point.

Other than that, really good and productive weekend with my parents! They have some annoyances I have to live with when they visit. And I often question if I can ever live with anybody after being on my own for so long. And my conclusion is: Not very likely.

Re: Is everyone still long weekending?

  • Ugh @CharmedPam, what crappy service!  I have found it amazingly difficult to find and keep a house cleaner.  First person was recommended by the gal who cleans my boss's home.  She was very good and I was happy with her work.  She came monthly 3 times and then said she would be too busy with her seasonal motel work to continue. So I searched again.  Contacted a few companies for estimates, which were way higher than I expected.  Contacted 2 or 3 who advertised on the NextDoor app and they no showed for the estimate meeting.  Finally found someone who has been coming monthly but she doesn't do obvious stuff, like wipe down the door handles in the bathroom or dust the night stand and lamp.  I reminder her but feel like I shouldn't have to tell her what to clean.  I'd like to find someone else but it's such a pain.  Good luck!

We had an ok weekend.  Went to dinner Friday night.  Saturday, was lazy in the morning and then we got ready and drove to our dinner cruise in the late afternoon.  It was nice.  Weather was beautiful.  Food was pretty good.  The prime rib was well done so not ideal.  I guess the chicken was good.

Sunday, DH had a migraine.  I went to church and then to Sam's to buy a couple of their giant mums.  I almost missed out.  Earlier in the week, they had racks of them.  Only 5 left on Sunday and I had to get help to reach them off the top shelf.  I selected 2 and by the time I was checked out they were all gone.  They are really big and nice.  Got home and decorated outside for fall.  Monday I did laundry and cleaned up an antique dresser I'll use as a buffet.  It was filthy from being stored for 15 yrs.  Cleaned it up and put some containers of baking soda in the drawers to get the last of the musty smell out.  It looks nice where I have it.  Decorated it a bit for fall too.

Short week with the holiday and off on Friday as DH's niece gets married.

  • Not me, back at the office today.

That sucks about her no-showing @CharmedPam

Weekend was fun. Went out to an early dinner w/ my friend on Friday. Saturday I ran a bunch of errands, and then that night I went to a housewarming/bday party at my friend's house.
Sunday and yesterday I was upstate the dude's house. Had a really great time, and my dog got to run around in his yard and be a country dog again for a few days.

  • I'm back, but just off to a slow start today. Even though I didn't take any days off, coming back to work felt like coming in after vacation. I think I'm caught up now.

That sucks about the cleaning person. I would see if you can use the app to find a different person, because this one doesn't seem very reliable.

I had a great but busy weekend. Saturday we built a little patio in a spot behind our (2nd floor) deck. It's just a small spot with pavers/gravel, so we were able to get it all done in one day. I'm amazed at how much tidier it looks. Sunday we went to the pool and then my dad did a shrimp boil. Yesterday we did a long hike (logged a couple of miles to our challenge), got a pedi, and then did chores around the house.
  • How annoying on the cleaner.  We had a good one for a good price for a couple years and then the main person went back to a "regular" job and her helper took over. The helper was flaky and we never knew if she would show. She'd supposedly think she communicated but never did and eventually she stopped coming and we didn't hear anything from her.
  • Some day when I get my house more organized I'd love a cleaner.  I don't think DH "gets" how much time is involved in the basic crap and I'd love someone to just show up on a monthly basis to do things like scrub my windows and tubs.

I'd also love someone to come in here and throw out everything but that's an organizer and not a cleaner.  I'm slowly finding stuff that the kids have thrown under a couch and I'm throwing it out.  We do not need every Happy Meal toy.
  • Booooo on the cleaner @CharmedPam.  Like @banana468 I'd also love a cleaner at some point but there's just too much kid crap, like, everywhere.  Although I did have an insanely successful decluttering weekend.  Thank God for baby/toddler nephews, I cleared the house of a kiddie workbench AND a firehouse dollhouse.  My sweetie nieces are the same age as my kids, so all the DDs' stuff is always a bit more of a task getting to new homes.

Are you here @MissKittyDanger?  Happy birthday!

@short+sassy how are things by you?

Off today and tomorrow for Rosh Hashanah.  L'Shana Tova to all who celebrate.

Some fun local news is the two Starbucks by me are for the first time since the pandemic began putting the mobile orders on the counter for us to grab again.  No more waiting 12 minutes for an employee to walk over and hand me my drink that's made but too far over the counter for me to reach.  Woohoo.  Oh if anyone was waiting with baited breath, I did also restock my freezer with make-ahead breakfasts.  :D
  • I’m here, too just behind on work. Count me in on wanting a cleaner but with an H who doesn’t see the value.

Weekend was excellent. I got a super great deal on running shoes and I can’t wait for them to get here!
  • I worked Saturday and Sunday.  I was gloriously off all day yesterday.  Went and saw Shangi-Chi, which was very good and highly recommend if you like the action adventure movies.  Then just slept, watched TV, and drank wine the rest of the day.

Nothing big to report.  It's a short work week for me, b/c I'm off Friday to go to the pageant.  LTF is now competing instead of judging.  It should be a good pageant though, I know a solid chunk of the competitors and judges, so I should have a good time.  I'm off this weekend too, so I'm looking forward to some rest.

Otherwise, SSDD at work.  I'm sick of this place.
  • What the actual hell @short+sassy, you have to use up vacation time when the office is closed?!? I have no idea what ours would do but so many would complain about that!
me.  I would.  Vacation is precious to me!!! But I was thinking about you and wondering if you were back today.  Guess you’d have to be, since anymore days off are in your own bank. Still smh. M

And a happy bday to @MissKittyDanger too! May you aee this tomorrow then.

  • Ugh - @short+sassy that is so frustrating when you are forced to use PTO  and the reason that you're out was that THEY had to close.  Years ago when work was closed for 5 days due to Superstorm Sandy we were made whole but I know we get hurricanes less often.

I'm working with our customers that are in your area and it's such a mess.  Freight terminals remain closed which is such a problem to get products in and out of the area.
  • welcome back S+S. ANd that's ridiculous on using PTO for the office closure when you don't have electricity

  • Welcome back S+S! @CharmedPam (and anyone else)  I always had trouble with cleaners cleaning well after the first few times. I only had one who stopped showing up altogether. I stopped having a person when H retired. I did hire someone while I was recovering from my surgery last year.
We had a good weekend. DS2 and DIL arrived Saturday. We had family pictures done that night. DD and family left Sunday. I spent a bit getting the house de-children's stuff. We spent yesterday and today at the pool in the afternoon. Today we met my local cousin and his family for lunch (since DS1 and DS2 weren't here when they came over for dinner). Last night we had dinner at the ocean front restaurant. It was fabulous. Nice cool breeze and yummy food all open air. DS1 and DIL leave tomorrow. DS2 stays until Saturday. So just more pool and seafood time.
  • @kerbohl, that looks so cute!  It's hard to believe the stones are painted on.  Such a neat idea.
