AW, rave, opinions needed: hair, MU, dress fitting- LONG

hey girls!! ive been off mostly for the last week or so, but im back! yesterday was a big day, i had my hair and makeup trial and then my first dress fitting at katy custom bridal. i am using kristina from jordan temple... i have been more worried about my hair and mu than just about anything else about the wedding, but i am no longer worried! kristina did amazing- just what i wanted with my mu, and it still looked great when i scrubbed it off 12 hours later (and i have super oily skin). i had panicked about not doing airbrush, but i'm fine with that decision :) with the hair, we are going to make a few changes, including moving the style to the middle of my head (she had brought it to the side to do cascading curls, which i didnt love). but the loose, curly updo is JUST what i wanted. i then continued to play with my bangs later that night because i couldnt decide, i liked how they looked all down but not so functional, they really annoyed me all day and started to look gross from touching them to get them out of my face. please tell me what you think of the last couple pics, when i rearranged and pinned them differently! for the dress fitting, i had a GREAT experience as well at katy custom bridal!! i had a not so good experience with the place i bought my dress, and this one was totally different, i felt so comfortable and im getting exactly what i want! they let me know all of my options, didnt try to force anything on me, didnt rush me, and really listened to what i wanted. im doing more to the dress than i thought- not only taking it in everywhere (which is hard to do with the open back), and taking the hem up a good 3-4 inches (which is crazy because i am 5'8"- this dress was crazy tall!), sewing cups in, and adding a bustle... but i also decided to have a light petticoat sewn in and have the train shortened almost a foot (which i am REALLY happy with) now, i can do a classic one point bustle which is exactly what i wanted to do! it is costing me a pretty penny (thank you lace hem!), but the dress will be exactly how i want it in the end! for all of that work i am paying $400 (the other place quoted me $400 for a lot less work than that). whew! this was super long! i'd love your opinions on the hair and all :) pics are all in my bio under photo albums- Hair and Makeup Trial (they go in sequential order throughout the day)

IMHO, I don't like the cascading curl bang thing.  I am more of a fan to sweep the bangs to the side.  But the back of the hair is great!  Glad to hear you had a great experience with your vendors!

Your make up looks great. I'm not a big fan of big flowers in the hair, because I think it takes away from the face, but it goes really well with your dress =)

I wouldn't leave the curls down in the front, they look great. But you did say you had to re-curl them, and you don't want to be doing that on your wedding day. I think if you pinned them back your hair would still look amazing and still have the loose curl feel :)

thanks for the input girls :) so kayde, did you like how they looked in the last two pics in that album? they were out of my face that way (i pinned back the frontmost bangs) and still partly down...
  • edited December 2011
Yes, i think that looked great! Out of your face but you still the the flowy curl look :)

IMO, I would have them sweep the bangs to the side also. If the curls where bothering you all day then they will the day of. Love the updo.

Rach, thats so true! I had curls down in the front on my wedding day, i ended up pinning it all back because it was getting on my nerves.

I actually love both the hair and makeup and I would keep the loose soft curls out. I really dislike super sleek updos on most women, because they tend to look very severe. I think your hair and makeup look soft and romantic. I think you should keep some pieces out at the front to keep the soft look.

I think in the end it depends on you, if you think they will bother you, i would put them up. It really looks good either way, depending on how your hair stylist pins it back i think it can still look romantic. But you don't want to have to be worrying about your hair all night.

I like the original look, with the bangs loose and to the side. I dont care for the middle pinned up, and the sides down. I think you could pin them back and still get the loose feel. Great style and I love the flower with that dress!

i agree with verona, i like the look with loose curls better but that's just more of my style. play around with it and see what you like best on you.

Megs you look beautiful!! I love the look. I like the loose curls. I think very very few women can wear all their hair away from their face (tightly) and make it look good, so I really like how yours is so messy, flowy romantic looking. My hair would never do that! =-(I also love the flower! You look beautiful! I dont think you should change the bangs up in the middle like the last pics if you leave the side curls. Pin it all back loosely or leave it. Jmo

V- I hadn't even read your post and I love how we agree on women with the tight hair pulled back. I think you have to be almost flawless to pull it off. It's too rough a look.

I love your hair! That is how I want to do mine I think. I love your dress!! It is so beautiful. I originally wanted a dress like that. I really love the hair.

i love hearing all of your opinions, but it makes me more undecided. here is the picture that was my inspiration for how i want the front to look: like or no? i really want some down and loose, but it will drive me crazy if my hair is in my face all night... but maybe i'll just have to deal with it...

I think if its going to bother you, put it up. your wedding day should be as stress free as possible! i love her hair in that picture! not tight at all, very romantic and soft. IMO atleast.

I like that look in the picture. It just drives me crazy when my hair is all up in my face and I don't want you to have to mess with it all night long. You don't have to have it tight back to get what you want. You do what you like best.

I love your hair and make up! Kristina did a great job! You are gorgeous and you rock that dress like no body's business. lol  Oh and remember that they do not use as much hairspray during the trial so that could be a reason why you had to re do the curls.

This is how I wanted my hair done if I didn't have to wear my traditional gown and head piece.  This way they hair is out of your face and still loose.  All you need is hair spray to hold it in place.http://www.profashionelle.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/carrie-underwood-movies-rock-2007.jpg

Janie- you are totally right. I don't know many women, aside from supermodels who can pull off a very tight/slicked back updo (I definitely couldn't!)Soft and romantic is definitely the way to go.  I think those slicked back updos with lots of curls at the top (typical "wedding hair") are kind of over anyways. A more modern look is always softer and more flattering and I believe that is exactly what megs achieved! you look beautiful!
