You can't open your wedding gifts from your shower?

I had my bridal shower yesterday and everyone told me that I can't use my gifts until after the wedding. I don't understand this... did yall wait until after the wedding to use your gifts? and if so why? Thanks.

we didn't wait and I wrote my thank-yous right away.  You are supposed to wait "just in case the wedding doesn't happen".  We took the risk and it worked out fine. That said, we didn't use everything we got, we mostly just displayed it all in our home so that it wouldn't all be in boxes. Plus, it was all already open because I opened the gifts at the shower.

technically you are not supposed to use them till after you are married. Its due to a few reasons, when this was considered, couples didnt live together, it wasnt right! haha. so you werent a couple yet, also if the wedding didnt happen then you had to give the gifts back. we used ours before the wedding though. especially my stand mixer.

We waited to use ours until after the wedding, we left ours in boxes since we knew we were moving a couple months after the wedding anyway

We are getting our new place soon. And we are planning to use our new stuff   The girls already mentioned the reasons behind not using them. But who cares. I'm not too worried about. And I know our family & friends want us to use the stuff. haha Some have actually asked if we have tried out the new _______.

Ditto to all of the prior posts. I did not use my gifts just because the opportunity did not come up until the night before the wedding. I had a pre-wedding mixer and we used some of our serving dishes. It was fun setting all the gifts up!
