Place cards? Table numbers?

I can't decide which to do.  I'd like to do table numbers with a seating assignment board so that people could see which table they are at, but am concerned that some people will not see the board and sit anywhere. I could always just do the place cards, so of course people would no go sit down in front of someone elses name. What has worked best for you guys at past weddings?TIA

You could have one person assigned to the entrance/guest book table so they can direct people in the right direction. I think assigned seating is a little too much, but if they are able to choose where they would like to sit but at an assigned table, then that would be more practical.
