Ceremony at 10am

I am strongly considering starting the ceremny at 10am because we are having a  hors d'oeuvres reception immediately following the ceremony and taking pictures. The family reception is at another location from 1pm-4pm. If we start at 11am, we will be strained I think. Any thoughts? I want to make sure we have time to greet our guests who will not be attending the family reception.

Re: Ceremony at 10am

  • I'm confused.  What is a "family reception" ?

No.  No tiered reception.  Everyone who is invited to the wedding has to be invited to the ENTIRE reception.

  • The only way that what you are proposing to do would make sense is if the wedding ceremony is immediate family only.  Just parents, siblings, & grandparents.  Since you would be having a small gap between the private ceremony and the reception, some hors d'oeuvres would be fine.  Otherwise, what you are proposing as PP said, is having a tiered reception, which is rude.
  • I don't know. This sounds fine if it works for you and your guests but personally if I had to be at a ceremony for 10am it would be a pain because I'd have to get up so early to get dressed and get my hair and make-up done- probably wouldn't have the option of going to get it done somewhere plus travel time we might worry about being late and making time to eat breakfast and it would just feel like a long day. Plus for you as the bride same issues.
It's up to you- but I know that on my wedding morning I'm looking forward to having a girls brunch, getting our hair and make-up done together, maybe taking a bath and doing pictures all before the ceremony. If it started at 10am that would stress me out.
  • the family reception is only for our blood relatives and out of town guests...
  • thank you all for your insight - much appreciated!
