Boston vs RI photographers

I've heard from a few people that photographers coming from the boston area are somehow better than those from RI. Does anyone have thoughts on this?

There are many fine photographers in Rhode Island. I looked at the work of/met with some here and some in the Boston area. I tended to find more that I liked in my price range (which was pretty low comparatively for around here) in the Boston area. But really it's a matter of taste of what kind of photography you want. You certainly don't have to leave the state to get a great photographer! Soo many good ones in Rhody. Like I said, it all depends on budget and your style preference.

I'm not sure why it would make a difference where they come from.  I've seen some amazing work done by RI photographers.

I think thats a funny statement - I think RI and Boston BOTH have some great photogs and some not so great. My photog - Kristin Spencer is a nationwide photographer out of rhode island - she does all the runway shows in NY and many weddings out of RI and Boston.  Just because she's from RI shouldnt make her any less of a photographer - she's arguably one of the best in the Northeast.

I think a lot of local photographers say they're Boston-based since it's a bigger city than Providence and more people would search under Boston than Prov.  My photographer is from Medford (I think!) but she advertises as being from Boston.  No one is going to search for Medford.  KWIM?

I don't see how the 50 miles between Boston and Providence could wipe out photographic talent. Since Boston is a bigger city, there are going to be more photographers to choose from, both good and bad. But that doesn't make them better than ones in RI...

So not true.  And most "Boston" photographers are actually from the 'burbs somewhere!  Since our wedding was right over the RI border in CT, we looked at both CT and RI photographers and found lots of talent in both areas.

i can't see how a photographer's location makes them any better or worse. we used heather parker but looked at the quality of the pictures more than anything.

I looked primarily at Boston photographers because I hadn't seen any Rhode Island photographers that caught my eye. Since then I have seen lots of great RI photographers and they have the advantage of having worked at the reception sites often. This is a big advantage. I would ask your reception site for recommendations.
