Tuxes vs Suits

FI and I had been throwing the idea around of the guys wearing suits instead of tuxes. What do you ladies think? Would the suits make it "less formal"? Have any of you had the GMs wear suits instead of tuxes? I'm going back and fourth. Thanks ladies! :-)

Suits would make it less "black tie" but a nice suit can look just as good, if not better.  Get a cool tie for all the groomsmen to wear.  I like this idea.

Is it ok to do suits even if the girls are in long gowns? Our wedding isn't black tie. I like the fun tie idea! :-)

So many of the tuxes are styled like suits I don't think anyone would notice the difference. As long as your GM have suits and you're not asking them to go out and spend hundreds of dollars I don't see anything wrong with it.

That's a good point BelhurstBride. I think all of the tuxes I liked looked more like suits anyways like you said. FI was going to try to find some deals on them and go from there. Thanks for your help ladies!! :-)

We have always planned to do suits, instead of true "tuxes," and while i think it does decrease the "black tie"-ness of the event, it doesnt decrease the elgance. we plan on charcoal suits -- so they are dark and match the season (for us that is october) even though the women will be in long dresses. i think its totally ok to do whatever you like.

We used blue blazers and khakis for our wedding and it was still formal and nice looking. I hope that the guys will be able to use them again too!
