Married! and Vendor Reviews

We got married October 10 and everything went great!!!! Nothing crazy happened...my MOH did get stung by a bee during pics but she took it like a champ!! DH and I had a wonderful time and so many great people came to share our day.Vendor ReviewsBatavia Country Club~ A+They did a wonderful job! The food was awesome (especially the mashed potatoes) we did food stations with everyone loved. The atmosphere was perfect for a fall wedding.Swedes Special Effects Hair Salon~ATheir price I think was wonderful and my hair and my girls' hair turned out great and stayed the whole night. Very nice ladies there!!Go Sound Systems~B+I think I am being too hard on them because I went into it being nervous about my DJ. He did play every song I asked him to and listened to me if I wanted to change the feel of the dancing. He did play some of my "Do not play" songs, but everyone was out them dancing to them so I guess it was ok. He only talked when he was supposed to and didn't get all obnoxious. I think we got cut down on time though because he closed up around 7 and we had the place till 730. I planned it so we had the DJ the entire time. Then again, he could have done it because most people had already gone home and there were just a few of us left.Jonathan's Pastry Shoppe~AThe cake was great!! We also had pastries that everyone loved! The cake looked like just what I had asked for and was gorgeous. The only reason why I did not give it an A+ was because the price went up just a week before the wedding...not by much. He said we were never charged taxes so we had to pay those. Occansey Designs~A+Ordered my veil from here. I custom designed it to what I wanted and it was only about $60. It was beautiful and lasted through the whole wedding-very well made.Laney Photography~AHaven't seen the pics yet so I don't want to give an A+ but we had a great time with Amy and her sister. They were great to work with and priced reasonably. She took some great shots from what I could tell so I am excited to see the finished productDavids Bridal~Dress A....Alterations~FMy dress held up very well! I love my dress and I got so many compliments on it.The alterations people were very rude, even yelling at their manager, and told  me my dress was too much work before they even saw it. I did not get my dress altered there. Between the horror stories I have heard and then having  them be rude I did not want them to touch it.Tammy Haynes Alterations~A+She was amazing! She had my bustle numbered so it was easy to do. Everything turned out great and she was super sweet.Daffy Apple~ACaramel apples were delivered on time, tasted great, looked great!Avon Floral World~A-Flowers looked great! I loved my bouquet. I gave the minus because we had issues with price and their original quote was way off.Tuxedo Junction~B-Sort of hard to work with...I wasn't sure they were keeping track of what we wanted. They messed up the ties. Only 1 guy got the correct style tie. Some measurements were off. They were helpful with fixing everything though.Mancuso Limo~B+They did upgrade us to a Hummer limo which was awesome! Some of the detail in the limo did not work though such as the air and radio. The 2nd limo was an excursion which seemed to be newer but the radio was difficult to work. Very professional drivers.

Hi Jenn,Congrats to you and your new husband!!  I read your comment about your DJ and I think I am in the same boat as you.  I am really nervous about booking my DJ (I am working on it right now) and i was curious if you had any suggestions.  I am really worried about getting the obnoxious DJ guy.  Also, I really want to be sure that everyone is out dancing.  I realize that I can't please everyone, but I would really like to limit the "that was an awful DJ" comments. Also, since the company is out of Rochester and you were married in Batavia, were there additional travel costs?  We are getting married in Buffalo, so that might be an issue with a Rochester DJ.

I actually ended up sending my DJ and email that was 3 pages long of songs that we wanted. I wanted to make sure he got the feel of the type of music we wanted. I was also in constant communication with him throughout the reception. I would just go over and talk to him quickly if I wanted a certain song played at that time or to change the genre. I also assigned one of my groomsmen to be "in charge" of the DJ. If I felt he was being too crazy they were the one who would be in charge of telling him to tone it down. Luckily, I did not have to do that. For me, there were no additional travel costs. I'm not sure how other companies work though.
