Bible ceremony reading that's not too religious

I grew up catholic, but my fiance is not religious.  We are having a civil ceremony in Vegas with 2 readings.  I think is important to include one reading from the bible, which he is fine with.  I am looking for something similiar to the "Love is patient..." that isn't preachy.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

I think you've asked for the ultimate oxymoron:  a Bible reading that isn't "religious".  But I suppose if you feel you must have a non-religious Bible reading, you could use something from Song of Solomon which is an allegorical poem, and uses the love of husband and wife to describe the love of God ofr humankind.

The "A time for" part of Ecclesiastes 3 is my best guess. 

But you could do 1 Corinthians 13 and leave out the more religious verses...

Trix needs to get outta my head.  I was thinking "Um, the Bible is religious so there's that but Song of Solomon is a love story so that's where I would look".

Does it HAVE to come from the bible?? Since one of your readings is already from the bible, couldn't your second be a nice poem or lyrics from a song you both enjoy?  That's what I'm hoping to do.  My fiancee really felt we needed a church so to balance that with us not being "church people" I though song lyrics or poems would be ideal.

You're getting married in a church, but neither of you are "church people"?  May I ask then, why you're getting married in a church?

Some people get married in churches to appease family that might be more religious than the couple is.  I would never do it, and I don't recommend doing it, but people do it all the time.   We got tons of flack from our Catholic families for doing a non-religious, outdoor ceremony.  It would have made life easier in the early planning stages to just give in and do a church wedding.  Maybe that's what PP had to do. 

OP, I would try googling "Bible verses about love" or something similar and sorting through until you find something that you like.

I'm confused too... If you're not church people, why would you get married in a church? My FI and I aren't "church people" and we both felt it would be pretty disrespectful to our religious guests to get married in a church just to have a pretty building...

To hopefully help your actual question... we are using this:

Ecclesiastes 4: 1-12

 

Two are better than one,
      Because they have a good reward for their labor.
       ¹⁰ For if they fall, one will lift up his companion.
      But woe to him who is alone when he falls,
      For he has no one to help him up.
       ¹¹ Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm;
      But how can one be warm alone?
       ¹² Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him.
      And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

 

The last verse about a threefold cord is, in my understanding, about including faith in marriage, you could cut the last verse... or really, it might not bother you.

I grew up Catholic.  I do agree that the bible is religious.  Maybe I used the wrong wording with "too religious."   I am looking for reading about love as some have suggested.  I want something that would relate to both of us.  He does not practice any religion but it is important to me to have a reading from the bible.   Thanks for the suggestions so far.
