Friend Officiant in NJ

My fiance and I are not religious and we want to be married in a secular ceremony.  We asked one of our friends to marry us, figuring she just needed to get ordained online and that would be that.  She called the county clerk who said people are going online and getting ordained and it's possible that later down the line it can be deemed that the person was not qualified to solemnize the wedding.  Has anyone had any experience with this?  How do you check what people would need to be qualified?

You call the clerk's office in the county where you are getting married.  Do not take the word of anyone else about what is necessary.

So long as the person is an approved minister (per your county's requirements) at the time of your marriage...

I agree with GLB.
 
YOU should call the county clerk and make sure the organization that your friend is obtaining their ordination is determined as legitimate by your county.
