Not Engaged Yet

Well, crap

I finally ordered BF's Christmas gift and it arrived today, so I was all excited about it and ready to wrap it and everything since it's something he had talked about wanting.

Then we went to the store to get a desk, and he of course walked down the aisle to look at the same item I have hidden under the bed right now... except he started talking about how one model is way better than the others... so I tried to semi-defend the one I bought without being obvious and he flat out said (while pointing at the one I bought) that version "sucks" compared to the other kind.

So now I know I have a gift for him that he won't even like. =(

When we got home he noticed I seemed bummed out so he kept asking me why I was upset, and I eventually blurted out that I needed to return his gift. He immediately guessed that I got the one he wasn't interested in.

So now I'm stuck. I thought I had the perfect gift, but now the cat's out of the bag and I feel like Christmas is ruined. I have seriously no other ideas of what to get for him =( He's really picky with electronics and already bought all the computer stuff he needed when he got paid recently. I feel like CRAP right now as a result.

He tried to assure me that he'd probably like it anyway, but I really just don't want to give him this anymore.

*sigh*

Any advice? Any ideas for man gifts?

He feels really bad about ruining my gift surprise and keeps saying he's sure he'd like it anyway. I'm considering hanging on to it and giving it to him anyway, while acting like i'm totally NOT giving it to him.

He's a geek, so he likes geeky things. Anything computer related or gaming related makes him happy. The bad thing is that he researches computer stuff a lot, so he can be pretty picky. It's kind of like if he tried to buy me a camera.. I'd appreciate the thought but I'd be a bit bummed at the same time.

Edit: Just went into the living room and told him I was going to return it because I got a great idea for something else. He was all like "you don't have to do that! I really wanted one of those, I should have kept my mouth shut!" I told him I'm doing some research so he can't come in the office... when really I'm testing out the gift, lol. I gotta determine if it's worth keeping, yaknow.

BF is SO similar with electronics! He's super into recording stuff (software, mics, amps, etc.) but he's really picky and I know nothing about electronics. Also, all the stuff he would want is crazy expensive. Bleh.

I'm with polo - can you get the model he said he liked better? I know it's not as much of a surprise but at least you know now he'd like it?

The whole situation is sort of a bummer, I'm sorry. There's going to be lots of other great stuff about the holidays though!

I just realized I never even said what I got. I got one of the Wacom Bamboo Create tablets. He wanted the Intuos4 version. I got this one on sale for about $50 off. It has a bigger surface but the pen doesn't have as many options.

I might send this one back and get the one he wanted at Staples or something, if I can't find a better deal online. The cheapest Intuos4 is the same price as the best Bamboo.

Or I could get him the keyboard he wants for half the price, and a couple neat smaller things too... and save the Wacom for his birthday when he will least expect it (and when we'll both have more free time to play with it).

    Oh decisions.

I LOVE thinkgeek! And now I'm looking through perpetual kid... such cool stuff! Thanks for the link!

I already got him a big whiteboard for the office and I want to get him new flannel pants so I'm thinking I'm going to get him the keyboard he really wants and a couple more smaller things to go with it. Plus he NEEDS a new keyboard, and this boy will geek out over it.

and OMG... I'm getting this mug for my dad. He's catholic, and he has a great sense of humor. http://www.perpetualkid.com/minor-miracle-mug.aspx
