Groom escort mom?

Have any of you ever known of the groom escorting and seating his mother at the beginning of the ceremony?

Re: Groom escort mom?

  • It's becoming more popular where I live. I think it's sweet.

  • Thank you.  I had never heard of that or seen it, but that is what his mom wants.
  • We're doing this since FI's step dad passed away a couple of years ago. :(

  • Yes, I've seen it done.  Go for it if that's what you want.

We had the FOG escort in the MOG because it would have been awkward for him to walk behind while the groom escorted his mom.  Grandfathers escorted grandmothers where possible, and my brother escorted my widowed grandmother.

It really doesn't matter, and realistically no one will notice so just do what works for you!
  • That's ever only way I've ever seen it done actually.
  • DH escorted his mother and his father escorted his grandmother.  If his grandmother wasn't able to attend then he would have been escorted by both of his parents.

  • I'm a MOB and my DH did this at our wedding 15 yrs ago.  He escorted his mom first and then my sister who was my "MOB".  I think it is very sweet and it is like the only 2 seconds a MOG gets something special in the whole deal.
  • It's a nice 'new' tradition to have the groom escort his mom. Or you could have both his parents escort him and both your parents escort you.

  • Thanks guys.  I had just never heard of it.  I have always just seen either an usher bring her in or she walked with her husband (which was my original plan) but she insisted on it being this way and I was just very unsure of it.  Thanks for the input, I feel better about it now!  :)
