Not Engaged Yet

BF just talked to Dad

So the ring is in the bag, on our dresser, just staring at me.  I refuse to even look that direction.  I asked BF to put it away or hide it from me but he hasn't yet.  I'm down the hill for work for a few days so maybe it'll be moved by the time I get home.

In the meantime . . . we had our Christmas dinner with my parents tonight and after dinner, before exchanging gifts, he asked me if he could have a few minutes with my dad.  So my mom and I chatted in another room.  Since he just brought the ring home and really made a point to come down for dinner tonight (the ski shop was insanely busy but he kept saying he didn't want to postpone our dinner), I'm assumming he asked my dad for my hand.  Maybe it's silly and old-fashioned but it was really important to him and I love that he felt it was so important.

I'm still keeping my patience pants on though.  Maybe Christmas, maybe New Year's, maybe my birthday, maybe Valentine's . . . hell, maybe July 4th, our anniversary!!  I hope it isn't that long away but I'm just so happy knowing it's actually going to happen!!

P.S.  Just a thought, maybe he was talking to my dad about a pony instead.  Entirely possible.

Re: BF just talked to Dad

  • Maybe a pony AND an ice-rink. Did you have chicken for dinner, by any chance? :D
  • There was chicken involved.  But we ate at a Thai place so it wasn't any sort of not-so-engagement chicken.

I don't think Christmas.  I think he'll make me wait longer than that!!  Undecided

<div>My guess is New Years or sometime after the first of the year. I think so many people get engaged on Christmas nowadays, though, that he'll probably want to do something a little bit more unique. :)</div>
  • Grrrrr!!!  I mean, yes I want to be surprised.  But I also want it to happen so we can start planning already.  My patience-pants are on but are wearing thin!!

P.S.  I am not known for my patience.  Hence, the necessary pants.
  • It is totally for a Pony.... and he has to spend 7 years working for your dad.  And by the time he is done your dad will play a trick on him and marry your older sister to him first.  Then he will have to work ANOTHER 7 years before you guys can get married.  So you should get some new patient pants.

  • Well I don't get the reference BUT I totally agree I need new patience pants.  Shopping immediately.

P.S.  Just googled patience pants and checked out the results in "images" and "shopping."  Mildly disturbing results.
  • I got you some patches for your patience pants. Just in case they are wearing thin already.

It's from the Bible.  Read verse 18-29.  Basically this guy named Jacob feel in love with this girl named Rachel but back in those days you worked for your FFIL.  So he worked 7 years for his FFIL but when his 7 years was up his FIL gave Jacob Leah instead because it was not right to have the youngest daughter married before the eldest.  So Jacob had to work another 7 years before he could have Rachel.

  • So I'm just lurking around here, don't mind me, but omg flygirl your puppy...too adorable for words.

  • Yay how exciting though.    I'm such an impatient person too, so I get how you feel...

    Anniversary

  • Hehehe, I got the reference too if it makes you feel better raven! :)

And I'm a world-class impatient person.  But think of it this way, you know it's going to happen--feel secure in that.
  • That is SO exciting Meg!!!

I seriously can't imagine if I knew the ring was in the apartment before FI proposed let alone it sitting on the dresser just STARING at me.  It's totally staring at you.  You need to put some newspaper over it.  That always fixes things.

  • That would drive me nuts!

Maybe he was asking your dad how he should build the stable for said pony?

Im betting new years when the clock hits midnight... just my thought!

Hahaha, that sounds like a perfect solution.

That's exciting that he's asked, but I always like to refer back to deburnin. She had her ring staring at her for over a year before he asked her. So you never know. Patient pants are your friend! : )

  • Congrats! That's awesome. Do you have a guestroom? I would totally move into that until the ring is off the counter!!!! I'm kidding, really. But I would definitely just put a newspaper over it like others have mentioned!
  • Dude...he was totally asking your dad if you would prefer Platinum or Gold shoes for the pony he's just bought you.

Why do you have to be all BSC and assume the conversation had anything to do with an engagement?
  • Oh ladies, your posts have made my morning and now I am laughing like a sillly girl in front of my computer (standard).

Sparkles - I'm sewing those patches on as soon as possible.
Raven & Hulu - No wonder I didn't get the reference - I'm not so biblically inclined.  However, I'll ask BF to get to work for my dad immediately so we can get started on our 7 years.
Sunlight - thanks!!  We're big fans of our pup.
Raider - See?  I KNEW it was staring at me!!  If it's not hidden by the time I get home tomorrow night I might cover it.  Maybe with some of BF's laundry in the closet.  We might both forget about it then.
Shoes - I know, I know.  Thank you for my BSC-reprimand.

And now, back to my normal BSC-free programming.
