Married one month and big check

Our wedding was one month ago today.  It's kind of funny because it seems like it's been a lot longer already (not in a bad way).

But I made a big check today which was shipping off my wedding gown.  I am donating it to Brides Against Breast Cancer.  Had to make sure to get it done soon so we can write it off on our taxes this year, but it feels weird to no longer have a wedding dress.  LOL.  Oh well, it's off to make another bride as happy as I was and to grant some wishes for women with metastatic breast cancer, so it's definitely a good parting of ways.

Congratulations on 1-month, here's to many, many more to come. I think it's super-duper generous of you to donate your dress, and I definitely admire that. :)

What a great (and super generous) idea to donate your dress!

(On an unrelated note, is it just me, or does TK seem to be acting normal again? Although all the posts made prior to now are still out of whack.)

Jem - that is awesome that you're donating your dress!  What a great cause and a plus that you can write something off on your taxes.  :)

Jem, that's so great. Do you have to get it cleaned first, or do they take it as-is?

Mine's just hanging in a bag on the back of the door.

I always said "oh it's just a dress, I'll sell it as soon as the wedding is over." But now I think I'll keep it for awhile....

    did you go through this?

They ask for an additional $40 donation (tax deductible) to help with cleaning, steaming & processing the gowns, so I just did that.  I was going to have it cleaned (really, there's just a tiny bit of dirt around the seam of my train), but I figure after shipping, they were going to have to re-steam it anyways, so I just included the money and will let them clean it.

It's a great organization (I'll probably volunteer at their next local event too) and with donations, you get to write off the full retail value.  So instead of being able to maybe sell my dress for half of what I paid, I get to write off the full amount and will end up seeing a bigger 'return' on it, so it's definitely a win/win situation.
