Makeup help for formal holiday party

Hi ladies,

Jemmini's thread got me thinking. I have most everything I need for H's company party next Saturday, but I'm not sure on the makeup. This is a very fancy party (at the Ritz-Carlton this year), where tuxes and long gowns are not uncommon. H actually bought a 3-piece suit.

I'm wearing this dress:

($125 in clearance at Macy's woot!)

With this hairdo:

I bought both a blue and a silver hair flower. I think I'll decide which the day of. I also bought rhinestone dangle earrings and a rhinestone bracelet.

I've previously gone retro-glam with my makeup--red lips, black eyeliner for this party, as I've worn vintage-style cocktail dresses. RIght now I have red sparkly nails (Gelish Good Gossip), and I don't know if I want to keep them red or go with a silver sparkle instead.

Any ideas for makeup looks? I was considering a silver smoky eye (kind of Kim Kardashian but not as heavy) with a light plum lip. Or should I go with a bold red?

And despite posting pics with two blondes above, I'm actually tan with dark hair and eyes. You can see the pic in my planning bio.

Thank you!

I'd go for one or the other.  If you want to do smokey eyes, go for a nude lip, or if you want to do a bold lip, go more natural on the eyes.  I think doing both looks way too overdone and can really over power a person.

With that color dress and hair, I'd proably opt for the smokey eye look and lighter on the lips.  I think the red lip would clash too much with the navy blue, andplusalso, I always love a smokey eye :)

I want to say again that I love that dress.  I hope you can post some pictures after the party.

I'm no help with the make-up, though.

Liv, I would totally do your hair. As long as you don't mind that my salon is my bathroom.  ;)

Did you know I used to be the girl to go to for prom hair? I love doing hair. I'm good at color and updos, just don't ask for a haircut.

I also like that video. I'd probably go a little darker just because of my coloring. Also, it will probably be time to change nail colors to the silver. I love Gelish, but it is a pain in the ass to remove.

Elle - I'll post pictures. These parties are almost like a school dance, and there's always a photographer.

Super jealous that you can do your own hair like that! Definitely go for the smoky eye :)
