BF had his lie detector test this morning...

He said that it was awful.

Lie detector test first then interrogation followed.  He said that the lie detector test wasn't that bad just a bunch of yes or not questions.  The 2 hour interrogation after was horrible though.  He said they really grilled him and had him to the point of tears over one certain thing!

He says he feels like crap about it and the whole job now.  I feel bad for him.

The one good thing is that the thing that he got grilled and so upset over is something that we know for a fact that other civil workers have done in their past as well and still got the jobs that they have so hopefully it won't be a deal breaker!  I told him to stay positive and that I was proud of him for being honest because I think that is what they are looking for more than anything in the whole process.

Any thoughts from my random online friends/acquaintances?

Mind if I ask ... what type of job is he trying to get that requires a lie detector test? I have never heard of that!

This is a firefighting position, he was offered the job but has to pass a series of tests... lie detector, back ground check, physical.

It is standard (at least around here) for police, firefighters and other people who work with the public such as correction/parole officers, etc.

Wow that's nutty.  My friend had an internship that required a security clearance and she said it was pretty rough too - lie detector and they tried to catch her lying about random stuff.

Anyone working in public safety (police, fire, EMT/paramedic) has to pass background checks and lie detector tests because of the fact that they are civil servants and are working with the public (especially children). Pretty standard procedure.

Good luck honey...I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you guys :)

Thanks everyone... he should get a call soon about continuing on with the rest of the tests hopefully!

I'm sorry it was so rough!  I've been through one before, and they're really harsh.

Just a heads up - it isn't unusual for them to ask people to take them a second time.  I know that would seriously suck, but it's part of the technique to get people to admit lies.  They'll say there was inconsistencies and try to get him to 'confess' a lie - just let him know to stick with the truth, don't reveal anything he doesn't want to, and stay confident and calm.

DH had to do one when he was trying to get into the fire department in Houston but I don't remember him saying he was interrogated like your BF apparently was. Good luck to him!

Thanks Cate.  Hopefully he doesn't have to go through it again, but I'll be sure to let him know that it could happen!

He has never done anything really bad nor been into any trouble with the law or anything like that.  We discussed if there was anything he thought would keep him from getting the job and the answer was no so no sense in trying to hide anything at all.
