You HAVE to be kidding me

. . . Really, October?  First I find out my friend has brain cancer and now my grandmother is on her last legs.  Seriously, this isn't fair.

Thank you all so very much for your thoughts & prayers.  All those kind words brought tears to my eyes (the good kind).

The update is . . . she got sick recently and had to go into the hospital for a couple days.  When she got out, she was too week to back to her apartment at the assisted living home where she's been for a couple years so she had to go to a rehab type place.  (All this is happening back in Virginia by the way)  Last night she just couldn't eat anymore - she literally can't swallow.  Those muscles aren't working anymore; they just gave out after getting sick.  I just talked to my mom; she's going back to VA to help.  It sounds like she's on IV until Monday when they'll meet with another doctor.  Her options are to not eat, and then starve to death basically, or to have a feeding tube put in.  At 93 I'm not sure the feeding tube thing would be a good thing; it means surgery, plus various other problems that are apparently common in elderly folks who have feeding tubes.  Anyway, if she gets the tube, she could go on to live for quite a long time as long as nothing happens with the tube.  I don't want her to starve to death, of course, but it seems like her body is falling apart, piece by piece, and I really don't want her to suffer more.  Whew.  That's all I can say right now without getting too emotional.  BF and I are going to a wedding tonight (#4 of the year) so I'm gonna put on my happy face, my dancing shoes, and try my best to have a good time.
