how many want/expect a designer ring?

how many want/expect a designer ring?  I found the ring but can  not justify spending close to  a 1000  extra for white gold.

I didn't expect or want a specific designer myself - I wanted a ring that reflected my style mostly. We ended up picking a design by Scott Kay because we fell in love with the setting and it was within our price range.

I go back in forth on whether I want a solitaire or something vintage. I agree 1000 more is a lot of money. Right now my first choice is http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/settings-with-sidestones/Antique-looking-Bezel-Pave.htmlI am hoping that when we go ring shopping at the end of August, I will be able to make up my mind. (We are traveling to South Africa and look at rings while we were there, since there is not much of a selection, probably not buy but get a good since of what I want).

I'm confused. Are you talking about spending 1000 for white gold vs a different metal? Or 1000 more for a specific designer in white gold?

Well i dont expect a designer ring.. or really want one.. i dont really like paying 600-1000 bucks just for a name...   O and by the way you can get your ring platnium plated for pretty cheap instead of getting white gold.. Good luck

Nope!  FI and I went shopping and found a setting we both liked at one jewelry store that I think might have been a Scott Kay design.   We didn't think it was overpriced until we realized it was set with a CZ in the display case and that we'd have to buy the diamond separately.  We couldn't justify the price tag just for the setting.  We then went to a different store and described what style of ring we were looking for and were able to find something we loved.  It actually worked out even better because the original setting we found we thought looked too bulky on my hand and this new one seemed dantier and more fitting.  It also came with a matching wedding band!  We still ended up having to buy the diamond separately but that was okay with us.  There was about a $900 difference between the first designer setting and the second non-designer setting (and the second also came with a wedding band!).  I guess if we were absolutely in love with #1 we might have bought it but that would have been because we loved the ring, not because it was a designer ring.

I am not expecting a designer ring nor do I really want one.  They are overpriced and in 5, 10, etc. years it won't really matter who made the ring, just that I'll be married to my bf!  I was never (and am still not) into getting designer clothes, shoes, and so on because I hated being advertising for these companies and they were so expensive!  I would much rather have a non-designer ring and bf pay less for it so we could put the money towards a house!

I didn't care whose name was on it.  He knew that I didn't wear yellow gold, and that we both liked emerald cut the best.  The rest was all him.

i've told my bf many times that i would rather he have something made or bought from a smaller jeweler than have a ring that ANYONE can pick out of a catalog (ie: Tiffany rings) I wanted my ring to be unique. Well after we went ring shopping i fell in love with Verragio rings and Scott Kay rings. The designs were gorgeous. I wasn't necessarily liking them just because they were designer rings, i just liked the styles. He told me straight up that he wouldn't buy a Verragio because when we were looking at them, he didn't like how they sat up so high on my finger. The ring I fell in love with is a Scott Kay design....he knows its the one I want, but we'll see if thats what he decides to buy......eventually.

i in no way expect a "designer" ring...however, when looking, the setting i fell in love with is a Scott Kay.  i did not know it was a Scott Kay until after i tried it on and said it was the one i liked the best.fortunately, we have a family diamond that was my bf's grandmother's, so we have a little more of a budget to work with for a setting - but still, i thought it was a very reasonable price!  i actually expected a setting by him to be much more!also, have you considered palladium?  i believe that is what we are going to go with.  it is in the same family as platinum and you don't have to get it rhodium plated like you do with most white gold rings.  just a thought!  (in scott kay, at least, palladium was actually less than white gold.)

I didn't want or expect a designer ring. I wanted something that would I would love looking at, that was of good quality, that would work with my career and lifestyle, and that I would never get tired of (I'm not a fan of "upgrading" your ring on an anniversary...I want the ring I get married with to be the one I wear for the entirety of our marriage). I found exactly that ring at your average nationwide jewelry store.

In an ideal world, I would have a Mark Morrell engagement ring. He makes them himself in MA (I think MA). It's way out of budget, so I haven't even mentioned it to bf. He and I are planning on upgrading our rings in the future. Maybe one day. For now, I'm going with a pretty basic solitaire and I'm sure that I'll love it.

I guess I should have be  more  clear. I meant  I do not see the reason  to spend 1000.00  more on a design in white gold because it is by a designer when one  can be that  is close in  design but  does not have the designer  name on it.

When we went ring shopping, I fell in love with a Martin Flyer (FlyerFit) design but, no, I never expected that DH would purchase that specific setting but, he knew I liked the style.  As it turned out, the designer setting was in his budget so he made the purchase.  When we went back to buy my band, we ended up getting it custom made rather than buying the designer match to my e-ring since the designer's price had inflated over 100% since we were engaged.  We saved a lot of money and there is absolutely no difference between the designer and the custom, other than the lack of a name brand stamp in the band.

to be honest I could not even point out a designer ring to save my life.  I could only maybe name a few jewelry designers names to begin with, but I would not be able to point out their jewelry. That said, I only buy things because I like them.  My ring is custom because I could not find a setting for my stone that fit my lifestyle.  If I could have and it happen to be desiger then I would have still bought it.  But I in no way set up to buy designer.

lyndausvi I gotta agree with u, i could not spot a designer ring! We're getting my ring from Helzberg's Limited edition section though. I thought that was pretty neat when I found out they only made a specific amount of the ring I fell in love with & the one we picked out was the last one to be sold!
