It's always a tough situation when your bf's parents don't like you for whatever the reason. Still, it is his job and responsibility to let his mother know that he is with you and will support you. I agree with others that the "we'll pretend to be broken up" thing would be a huge red flag. You are both adults. When are you guys going to act like it? Also, if you're scared that your bf won't come back, then there are some issues to be worked out.

"How old are you two, 13? You have to hide your relationship from mommy? You "aren't allowed" to come down to FL? What bullshit." I couldnt have said it better myself. My advice, run. Run as fast as you can.

OK, I've been with my BF 4.5 years and we've been living together 3.5 years, if he turned round and said he was moving out to try and save money to go see his mother to tell her we're not together anymore... I would take that as him breaking up with me. He's not moving out to save money, he's moving out to let them know he's not with you anymore. It is absolute nonsense that he's going to try and make them all like you afterwards. If he's sticking to the story that he's not breaking up with you, ditch him, what a prize A*hole! He's obviously a wimp who can't stand up to his manipulative mother, and he's thinking it will be easier on him to break up with you when he's already been pretending you are not together for a few months.I am so angry on your behalf!

I can give an update on that.

Things are greatly improved since they moved 3000 miles away from his parents. He has started realizing his part and how he enables his mother to behave the way she does. He is a work in progress but he is working on it. While recently talking with my friend, his mother brought up the previous tension and that she was happy to put that behind them.
We'll see what the future brings.

That's really great. I'm glad to hear it worked out.
