Cookbooks

I have decided over the weekend I'm going to take my recipe book (My homemade binder is over 300 pages, I swear..it's a little ridiculous lol) and have it printed at Office Max  and have it binded together so it's like a legit cookbook :)

My grandma is coming up for thanksgiving and is under strict effing orders to bring up her recipe book which has been handed down for like... 2-4 generations. So I will finally have all my favorite recipes from my grandma/childhood that I adore. Plus all the awesome recipes I've collected throught the last 2 years.

I've even got a title "Ry's Yummy Concoctions Volume 1". LOL.
Mainly because I can't call it the "Nieuwenhuis Crew's Yummy Concoctions" as BF is still BF lol. So the title of the next one will change haha.

I know this is a bit rambly, but I'm excited to do this. I love cooking, and right now since my recipes don't all fit in one place, it's such a pain in the assss trying to keep them all straight and all the pieces in one spot.

What do you ladies think??

What have you done that just makes you happy??

    That sounds absolutely awesome!

I haven't done anything recently to make me abnormally happy. I just want to get through this semester then I'll be happy =)

I think this is a really cute idea. I've been thinking about formally printing a cookbook on Blurb for a while now, but I need some better photos of my recipes before I'd feel comfortable doing that.

Until then, I have two 3in binders - one for savory recipes, one for sweet. They are all mine, with some recipes from my DH or our families/friends mixed in. Those things are uber-organized (think 26 tabs, all broken down by category, etc.). I also keep a big binder of "recipes to try" - tear outs from magazines or books, print outs from online. We try to go through it and pick one recipe from our Try book each week to vary up our dinners a bit.

Mine is very similar!!  I also have a specific section for the ones we want to try. That one is a little large at the moment thanks to my lovely hectic asss schedule. I don't have any photos of my creations... Hmmm... I should work on that...

Most of them I already have typed them out - My handwriting is terrible, so it just made sense. But a lot of the newer ones I have - I will need to retype. But, I type 80+ words a minute - so it's not too bad.

I love Blurb for book making. They are pretty affordable and you can customize your pages pretty easily, depending on how many photos you want to use and such. It also works with your computer's settings, so if you have special fonts downloaded, you can use those in your book.

I love the idea of fonts that look like actual handwriting...gives it a more warm, personal feel, while still looking like a crisp and clean professional book. Maybe something to think about?

This topic also reminds me of a book in our bookcase- I'm not sure if it's Andrew's grandmother's or mine. Our bookshelf in the kitchen, which Andrew's grandfather made, is filled with both of our grandmother's cookbooks:

    That's a great idea =)

I should start doing something like that ... I have so many recipes from websites or scribbled down on a piece of notebook paper that get lost. I might as well have them bound together so I know exactly where they are!

That's an awesome idea, Irish! Now you'll be able to pass down your own cookbook through the generations :)

I guess when my great grandmother passed away there was this big family drama about who got her recipes. One of my father's cousins grabbed them up I think and ended up publishing them in a cook book. I work with an older woman who knew my great grandmother and she raves about this little dessert she used to make. I guess I won't know the recipe until I go out and buy the book :p

That's definitely exciting! I'm really tired of running back and forth to the computer to look up recipes I use all the time, so I'm thinking I should start a recipe book myself of some sort! If only I had the time!

Um can I have it?  Will you send me one?  Because I think it is AWESOME!  I love cook books, I might consider doing this once I get a little more established in my cooking skills.  This is a fantastic idea!

That is a great idea. I have recipes all over the places, saved online, written out and printed, I should combine them all in one place and bind them.

Going to see my BF play hockey tonight.  That makes me happy and I have a day off tomorrow :-)
