Pet Birthdays

Does anyone else celebrate them? My puppy turns 2 tomorrow and I bought him presents, special food, birthday hats, and I'm looking for a puppy cake/cookie.

Last year, we had an actual party for Cat first birthday, we invited friends and they actually showed up with wrapped presents for him, we all had hats, a banner, a pinata, and party games for kitty

BF thinks I'm crazy for doing this (he helped plan the cat party last year, so he's just as crazy but won't admit it). Does anyone else have pet birthday parties (please tell me we're not the only crazy animal parents).

Re: Pet Birthdays

  • Hahaha Danish Man and I are celebrating Maus' first birthday next month at a doggy day camp.  We get to invite 8 other dogs and they run around playing and chow down on a doggy birthday cake.  I take any excuse to celebrate birthdays!
  • We try to celebrate.  Last year on Hogan's first birthday we bought him a new frisbee, some special treats, and a fantastic "Party Animal" hat that he tried to eat off his own head.  I still have the hat and am gonna try again this May for birthday number 2!!
  • I got Maggie a doggie cake/cookie. We got it from a natural pet food store. She loved it

  • We got our dog from the animal shelter so we aren't quite sure what her birthday is. We picked January 1st so that it would be easy to remember. We usually get her a bone and spoil her (let her sleep in bed with us and give her dinner scraps).

  • Mostly they just get treats for their birthday. I would buy some deli turkey for Tabitha.  Everyone also gets  a new toy or treats at Christmas.

I've never done cake or hats, though Supertramp looks awesome in his hat.
  • Bellamy's birthday is July 16, 2005. We usually take him for a ride in the car to go to the dog park or see his grandpa and the cats without Zoe.

Zoe's birthday is March 31, 2006. We usually take her for a drive and a walk through the regular park (she hates the dog park) and let her swim in the creeks because she loves water.

We also give them their favorite foods on their birthdays. Bellamy loves cheese, peanut butter and Frosty Paws; Zoe loves broccoli, cheese, peanut butter and Frosty Paws.

  • My kitties always get a can of wet food and a new toy on their birthdays. The puppies always get a big special biscut (like the home made ones with the icing that they sell at the pet store) and a new toy. I also go through their old toys each birthday and Christmas and purge the ones they don't play with and take them to the local animal shelter.

  • We used to buy our longtime family dog a present on her birthday every year, and even though she crossed the rainbow bridge almost four years ago, my sister still remembers it in a special way each year. We don't know my parents' new dog's birthday because she was a rescue, but they celebrate her "gotcha day" with a special treat every year. (She's spoiled as rotten as can be, so I don't know what else they could possibly get her, but...)
