Stupid Question. WARNING: CONTAINS S-E-X

I'm being really f*cking lazy here. I don't feel like going on Google so -

When travelling by plane, what's the best way to pack condoms? Carry-on or luggage? Does the altitude do damage to them? Or is it six-to-one, half a dozen or the other?

Again, I am fully aware as to how lazy this is.

Don't keep them in any hot spaces. (I'm assuming this because they say not to carry condoms in your wallet, so I assume this extends to larger spaces.)

I would just throw a bunch in your purse (out in the open), done deal. Just be sure to not pull any out accidentally at the dinner table.

    Yay sex.

LOL I don't care about airport security seeing them, I'm more worried about them being taken away - I don't know if there are security issues with condoms, I don't fly that often. I'm also worried about the altitude.

    @GPB - yay sex indeed.

I would just grab a box and throw them in your purse and you should be good to go! I'm sure all of the stuff they've seen, condoms are the probably the least naughty.

I once heard of a girl having her carry on searched because they saw something suspicious and it turned out to be her vibrator. HA!

ETA: As long as it's not liquid, they shouldn't take it away. So no lube!

Nah, no security issues with condoms. Liquids, laptops, anything remotely sharp, and shoes seem to be what's most up the TSA's collective butt. As well as the obvious, such as drugs, weapons, or explosives. I can't think of a scenario in which they'd confiscate condoms unless they were filled with weed. Ha.

I would put them in your purse or carry-on so they don't get thrown into the bowels of the plane with any checked luggage and possibly squashed. Also, sometimes checked luggage is examined after it leaves your hands (it's true), and the people doing that probably won't be as careful as you are, packing-wise and/or in terms of zipping the bag all the way back up again. It's happened to me.

I fly pretty often. If you have any questions or want some fun tips, fire away. :)

ETA: luvdncn, she can carry on lube as long as it's in a bottle that's 3 ounces or less, and fits in her clear, quart-sized plastic bag! Woohoo!

There should be no security issues at all. I don't even think lubed condoms would matter. They don't mind my Chapstick, so I'm sure lubed condoms won't count toward your liquids limit.

Pack them in your carry-on, in a little pouch protected from any corners. I'd maybe roll them up in a soft sweater or something like that. If you fly on smaller planes sometimes they will take your carry-on and put it in cargo anyway.

Another option if you're worried about that is to just keep them in your purse or backpack.

Really, I can't imagine there would be any issue at all. You'll be fine.

Condoms are dangerous. You could pull those over someone's head and suffocate them. As security I would be concerned ;)

They took your batteries? That's theft - there's nothing against batteries in the TSA Security protocols. I've had a few panties go missing in transit, which I find just disturbing, but that's about it. I usually now do carry on for everything since I hate the extra time it takes to check and pick up a bag (yes, everyone references "Up in the Air" when I say that, but I still haven't seen it).

They're not that strict about liquids anymore. I haven't put them in a ziplock bag in over a year, and never had a problem. Just keep the sizes under 3-4 oz each so they don't attract attention and you'll be fine. Technically the rule is 3oz containers that fit in a ziplock bag, if you want to follow the rules.

As far as condoms in the wallet, that's because they can get pierced or dented and thus rip the rubber, not so much the warmer temperatures. Condoms are meant to be okay between 45-110 degrees (according to the box I've got at home), so that means don't stick them in the microwave or oven, but your body heat won't damage them. Carry the condoms in either your carry on or checked, whatever you prefer.

LOL. I didn't think you did! Just thought it was funny. My aunt and uncle actually did name her that because they took a trip there and loved it, but my cousin was definitely not conceived on that trip. I think it was their honeymoon, but can't remember. They gave both of their kids middle names that reflected places they'd been that were special to them.

As long as you dont put fifty grams of cocaine in the condoms and swallow them, you should be fine! Some girl just got caught for that. I hope she knows doing that to the condoms ruined any chances of them being an effective method of birth control! ;)

I would actually disagree on the liquids thing. It totally depends on the TSA agents you run into. I fly several times a year, and it really varies. Sometimes it's no biggie (I've even forgotten about things in my carry-on, like a full-sized tube of toothpaste, and had no problem getting them through), but other times, I've been made to stand there and re-stuff my little containers into one Ziploc rather than two. Also, if you want to stick strictly to the rules, your one Ziploc has to be a quart-size or smaller.

As for the condoms-in-the-wallet thing, while I think Cate's right that the rule is more due to the general wear and tear, prolonged exposure to heat or extreme cold isn't good for them, either. Planned Parenthood's website says to keep them at a cool, dry temperature.

    Just FWIW.
