Not Engaged Yet

Say Yes To The Dress

SYTTD shows all kinds of crazy, and I'm usually ok with it.  The girl who shops for her dress before she's engaged?  Sure.  It's your money -- if you want to spend it on a pretty white dress you may never wear, that's cool.  The girl who finds something wrong with every.single.dress. she tries on?  *Shrug*.  I'm nitpicky, too.

But tonight they featured a bride who rejected her fiance's original proposal because she didn't like the ring.  And the consultant praised her for refusing to lower her standards.

Ugh.

Oh my goodness, I haven't seen it yet. I recorded it since I went out for my mom's birthday...

Which consultant was it? I hope it wasn't one of my favorites or I'm going to be seriously depressed!

It was Audrey, I think, and I usually like her.

Of course, you never know what she really thinks about the situation.  She can't talk crap about the bride if it's going to be on TV.

I'm sure Audrey was kind of half-kidding and buttering up the bride to make a sale. But...yeah, gross.

True, but if the consultant is really against whatever the bride is doing, she'll usually say something on the little interview part. They don't have any problem calling a girl a diva or anything AFTER the consultation! Maybe she just didn't say anything about it...I'll give her the benefit of the doubt.

But still....Ew. Just told FI about it. HIs response was, "If a woman did that to me, I'd just say, 'Fine, then we're done.'" I agree. The thing that gets me is that this guy stayed with her and then spent MORE money on her after he found out how materialistic she really is!

Exactly.  I mean, I would have said yes to a twist-tie from FI, but if I did refuse it, I certainly wouldn't expect him ever to propose again.

And it was in the little interview part that Audrey make that remark.  She said "I kind of tip my hat to her" or something like that.

I usually like Audrey too.  Lame sauce that she sucked tonight.

I think my favorite episode of BSC was the girl with the Greek parents.  They didn't give her a budget, so she picked the most expensive dress in the store (the thing was like $32,000) and when they told her they couldn't afford it she threw a temper tantrum.  In the middle of Kleinfelds.  A temper tantrum from a 26 year old girl.  Ayayayayay.

In other news, I had lunch with the office I used to work for on Thursday, and once I told them about being engaged, my boss looked at me and asked when the entourage was headed to Kleinfelds so we could be on SYTTD.  She and I used to watch it during lunch every day.

He!!, maybe the superrich have different ideas. Maybe if a guy can easily afford an 8-carat ring, and he doesn't spring for one, it means he's not committed.

    I am officially KUI.
  • edited December 2011
I saw that one.  FI was like "I'd tell her to suck it."

ETA:  I didn't even think the ring she held out 15 years for was particularly nice...

<div>I've heard some really bad reviews about the customer service. I think since the show came about, they're kind of coasting on reputation. You couldn't pay me to find my gown at Kleinfeld's, now that I know that. I'm not trying to rain on your parade or anything--if it works for you, awesome! I know it would be a fun experience, and they certainly have a fantastic inventory. But I know me; for my wedding dress, I'm going to need nice people who don't rush me and who value my sale and my customer experience somewhat, y'know?</div><div>

The Kleinfeld's thing was a joke. ;) I don't think I'd ever go there and even if I did, I doubt I'd find my dress there. It seems like most of their stuff is a lot more expensive than what I'd like to spend...Whenever I hear someone say their budget is 1000 or even 1500, it seems like the consultants act like there's not a lot of options for them.

Yeah, I'm from the Lansing area. =) One of my good friends grew up in Detroit but recently moved to Georgia. I hate to see her FB posts about how it's 80 degrees when it's snowing here! Agh!
