Clothing Swap Parties?

Has anyone ever hosted one or been to one?

I purge my wardrobe probably about 2-3 times a year. And I get rid of TONS of stuff when I do it, as does my little sister. I normally give it to a friend of mine, and sometimes she gives the stuff she doesn't want to her little sister. Last week, a friend of that little sister asked if next time she could get in on some of the clothes.

So I was thinking about maybe having a clothing swap party for the girls at my youth group (I'm a leader for my church's teen youth group). I thought it could be a lot of fun, and I was thinking of trying to incorporate some other donations into it. i.e. to participate, bring something to donate to the communitiy life cupboard, and any clothes that people don't want could be donated as well.

Does anyone on here have experience with it? (good or bad)

I've heard of them, but I've never been to one. I usually donate mine to Good Will. I think that's a fantastic idea.
    I'm not good at feelings.

I've always wanted to have one, but I never have friends close to my clothing size.

Just make sure there's no one on either end of the spectrum that gets left out.

That's my concern too. But even just between my sister and I, we have clothing in all sorts of sizes so I'm hoping that it won't be a problem. My house alone probably has clothes from a size 0 to a size 12, so I hope that will cover everyone...plus the girls will hopefully be bringing in more.

I do this every once in a while with my girlfriends, we extend it out to shoes and purses as well.  I purge at least once a year, so the ladies and i just get together with wine and snacks and go through the things together.  Sometimes a couple people want the same thing so we compromise and wheel and deal to make everyone happy.  I do agree that when parties like this happen that there should be a girls of the same size, so a a variety of 2-4-6-8-10 should be represented, as well as shoe size.

A friend of mine hosts a clothing swap about twice a year. We also include jewelry, accessories, as well as unopened makeup, so even people who may not find any clothing they like or that fit them can still leave with some fun stuff. Mostly, its just an excuse for us girls to get together for a girly night, we usually have some wine and appetizers. Everyone has a blast, trying on and modeling the clothes they are considering taking homeSmile

Ooh, I like the idea of including accessories too. Such a good idea! That would definitely open it up more and provide a greater variety.

I've been to one before! it was in my dorm though, and every girl brought a few clothing items/shoes/boots/necklaces/purses... And however many things you brought, you got to pick that many out. It was fun!

When you love someone, you can tell. When you're in love with someone, everyone else can tell.

This is a GREAT idea!! It should work well if a broad range of sizes is represented!
