Help from the crafty people?

While we were in Orlando over the weekend, my cousin and I decided to make "Weasley jumpers" for each other and exchange them over Christmas.  The only rule is that we have to keep it pretty simple so it looks like something Mrs. Weasley could have actually knitted.

I don't know the first thing about knitting, so I'll be buying a sweater from Target or somewhere.  Then, I want to add her first initial and a quaffle, but I have no idea how to go about it.  Does anyone have any thoughts on how I can do it in a way that doesn't look completely cheap and ugly?  Iron-on?  Something else?

I'd do an applique and cross stitch it on. It will look the best and adhere better to a sweater.

Here is a cross stitch tutorial:

*clears throat*  Are you telling me that you are doing something else HP for someone OTHER than me?      That is what I thought.  I am ashamed of you.

Aw, Ray.  I really am going to get your shirt done one of these days.  I swear.

I'll do it soon, since I have to dig all that stuff out for cousin's sweater anyway.
