Jeana!

Jeana, my lovely girl.

You've been absent for ages. How is school??

Re: Jeana!

Well, right now I am between classes sitting on a cold concrete floor. My butt is asleep. lol

Anyway, So, school is okay, BUT, I went out of town this past weekend and had a BLAST at Dragon*Con (met Acro and Sunbrid, yay!), but then upon arriving home again I immediately got sick with some kind of wonky flu-type bug and had to miss class yesterday and this morning.

And, I mean, I do NOT miss class. So obviously it was pretty bad.

I had V8 and crackers for lunch today.... so far so good. I may get back to real food for dinner. Maybe.

So, I love economics, even though it's a little challenging. I think I'll do fine. It's so applicable to everyday life... I was telling Josh when we were shopping for souvenirs at Dragon*Con "No, I don't want that t-shirt, it's above my reservation price." He thinks I'm clever. :P

My art class is a lot of work, as expected. I'm not sure how I feel about it. Well, I mean, I FEEL like I suck at drawing (it's a drawing class), but my first project was pointed out second when we were critiquing. Apparently I'm not as bad as I think. But it's about 6 hours a week out-of-class work, plus I'm supposed to be working in my sketchbook, which I'm not. And I got sick and fell behind, so I have to make up two projects (I couldn't finish the one I had over the weekend because I was too weak to even draw... FML).

Then I have english, which is way better than I expected. My teacher is really interesting, and we get to choose one topic to write about for the whole semester. I'm thinking of sticking with pet adoption vs. purchasing. What do you think? Will I be able to find 8-10 good articles on that? Some of the articles need to be academic sources... that's always the hard part. Anyway, I think I'll do fine. My backup topic is advertising to children. There's always tons of crap about that.

Finally, there's media planning... which is the ONLY class actually in my major. It's also probably my least favorite. My teacher is South Korean and has a thick accent. He gives us fill-in-the-blank notes, which don't help me much... however it's impossible to keep up with him if you don't use HIS notes. It's also a good bit of math... although the problems are easy. I have to memorize a bunch of formulas, which is not my strong point. I've started making flash cards.

I am really upset about having missed classes yesterday and this morning, and I keep telling myself I was physically unable to go... but it just sucks to fall behind. I'm kicking myself for it.

Oh, and there's this jackass in my econ lab who keeps harassing our teacher (a female South Korean grad student). Apparently he has a hard time understanding the concept of respect. He kept blurting out answers as if he knew everything last week, and she kept very calmly correcting him and explaining the concepts, and then he started cussing at her and telling her to shut up. A bunch of other students yelled at him. He was sitting right accross from me... if that's the case again today I may hit him. Granted, it will be a weakling post-flu punch... but still. I can't stand that kind of jackassery.

Oh, and my new volunteer for APAWS may be quitting because the other APAWS volunteers are too difficult to work with. I need to talk to her and figure out what the crap is going on. That's really weighing me down.

On a brighter note, I bought myself a bright red fall trenchcoat and I can't wait for the weather to cool off so I can wear it!!!! :)

Also, Dragon*Con was so much fun. Josh and I met a bunch of the cast of Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis. We got to talk to a writer/producer as well (poor guy is so under-appreciated- the line for his autograph was like 10 people lol). We also went to a panel with Sean Astin (Sam from Lord of the Rings), and saw more amazing (and a few terri-bad) costumes than I can even explain.

Oh yeah, and some drunk guy in our hotel room group ended up in bed with Josh and I the first night we were there. That was disconcerting. Apparently he also peed in a corner in the adjoining room (where he was SUPPOSED to be sleeping). We were not impressed.

But, we're still talking about going again next year. Maybe making some requests about NOT having adjoining rooms with crazy-drunk-bed guy.

    A. Must see this red trench. I've read about it at least 4 times. PIP?

    B. Drunk guy. In bed. With you and Josh. SAY WHAT? Explain?

    C. What kind of drawing? I had to take a few of those as well. If it helps... it gets better as the semester goes on. That's not reassuring at all, but good luck!

I miss you and Narwhal, you've both been missing since classes started. : (

    A. I don't have a pic yet. I'll try to take one later for you.

    B. I don't know how to explain it. A group of 12 people split two rooms, each with two double beds. Some folks were on the floor, some folks had air mattresses. We met most of the group before bed, but a few (including drunk guy) weren't there yet when we crashed at 12am.

Around 3am, I wake up, all groggy, and try to move my legs. I thought (in my sleepy state) that I was at home, and my cats were laying on me. Because that happens all the time, you know? Well, then I realized I COULD NOT move my legs. I couldn't FEEL my legs. So, I sat up... and there's some guy in his underwear laying across the foot of our bed.

I nudged Josh, because I couldn't get this big dude off of me. Josh took a while to actually process what was going on (not a morning person), and in the meantime the person in the other bed sat up and whipered "Who is that?" and I was like "OMG I don't know!"

So, eventually Josh got up, tried unsuccessfully to wake drunk guy up, and then another girl in our room got up to see who it was, ran to the other room and got drunk guy's girlfriend, and she came in and shook him until he stumbled out of our room and into the proper bed... still in his underwear.

We found out the next day he had also peed in a corner of the other room. So he had to call housekeeping about that, and appologize to Josh for passing out on me.

Some people have no idea when to stop drinking, apparently.

    C. It's an into to drawing class. Super-basic stuff. We started with contour lines... but now he's giving us assignments like "draw anything you want, but make it the best drawing you can do..." then the next assignment was "Now draw the same thing, but in a different way." WTF?

Oh, and also "Copy a drawing by one of the masters" meaning Picasso or Van Gogh or something. Way to crush my ego.

Katie, hush and be patient.  I'll see you this winter.  <3

Jeana, you don't have a large head, I just have an abnormally small head.  I seriously wear the same size riding helmet now that I did when I was 7.

Careful with those <3s, Acro. You might have to join the "<3less bitch club" with Kat.

Sidenote - cannot wait until this winter :)
