I want this party!

While searching for party decorations ideas for our nephew's birthday party, I came across this layout.  I want it!  Thinking I might use it as inspiration for our housewarming this summer.

I know that I am making a garland for his party.  My SIL has enough going on in her life, so I offered to do the decorations.  I am so excited to be in charge of them.  I am in party planning heaven.  She already commented on how over the top my kids' parties are going to be.  I couldn't argue.

Part of me is upset that I don't get to plan my own baby shower.  I have seen so many cute shower ideas.  I don't think I'll get to plan one for 4-5 years. 


P.S. Do you use InDesign?  What do you think is the best graphic design program to learn?  Right now, I just play around with Pages but I want something with more umpf and capabilities.

I definitely would recommend any/all of the Adobe programs.

What exactly are you looking to do?

I use Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator everyday for my job.

Photoshop is best for images, InDesign for materials with a lot of verbage and Illustrator is best for drawing. I would tend to chose Illustrator for something like the garland flags, but InDesign would probably work just as well.

I am not quite sure what I want to do.  The graphic design elements in party planning interest me and I have the time right now to take some classes.  There is a local class I can take on InDesign.

I could see myself creating an etsy shop in the future.

If you have the time and it interests you, I would definitely recommend it. Also, once you learn one, you will be able to learn the others more quickly. InDesign is probably the best to start with. It's actually my favorite of the three to use.

And it's great for parties and other kinds of fun things (gifts, projects, household) if you're nerdy like me; which I kind of think you are.

Mutley - I found InDesign easier to learn then Illustrator.  There's also TONS of online tutorials on how to create some neat things with it.  I'm sure there are ones out there for Illustrator too but InDesign just seemed easier to me:)

Really Mutley you are probably one of the most innovative and creative people i have been lucky enough to "meet". i also love how upfront you are with people , no sugar coating patting you on the shoulder stuff - i really admire that. i adore you and am glad you stuck around , would not be the same without you here <3

i love hearing all the ideas everyone has - it keeps me excited not only for my own but gives me resources i never would have thought of myself as well as passing those along to other friends and such. :)

I'm envious that I don't have a design bone in my body. Thinking about doing design related kind of makes me want to crawl under my desk and hide.
