what made you come to TK?

Hey ladies...

random thought on my head today, and I don't know if someone has done this before, so if they have, sorry for the repeat...

since we're here in the NEY section, it makes me wonder the different reasons for coming to TK, a wedding website...

my reason was I just was excited my BF was starting to make some more money, so we started talking about getting married and I got a little BSC and decided to see what other girls in a similar situation were up to...

how about you? what made you first come to TK?

I came to tk because I was engaged and my mom mentioned the site. I've been engaged since early '09, so I came right after I was engaged. At first I hung out on my city board and month board, but then I was just roaming one day and I was reading NEY. It was when the old gaurd was alive and well. They were hilarious.  My first post here was something about how funny the NEY ladies are. When I first got here all of the new people would get pretty harsh treatment. But I stuck it out and just stuck around. I loved it here because the ladies were hilarious and didn't just talk about wedddings.

This board has changed a LOT since then.

I prefer the way it used to be with the old guard.

I popped up here because I was completely BSC.  However, I had the intelligence to lurk and watch every other BSC newbie get ripped a new one, so I calmed it down and started posting once it was under control.  I loved the OG though.  They used to make my days.

Yeah, used to be a different screen name. I'm not sure if I got blocked or what. But eventually it just stopped posting. One day I posted this long heartfelt thing and no one responded at all. I was all sad. Then I realized that my posts just didnt' show up! So I had to switch sn to a different one.

I don't know if I like this better or not. The old gaurd was HILARIOUS. Serious. But, I love all of the new ladies here. So, I'm not sure. I guess it's not necessarily 'worse', but more 'different'. However, I miss how the new ridiculous posters would get picked apart and wouldn't be all puppies and rainbows. This board is more sweet, rather than real and honest sometimes now because some people don't want to be 'mean'.

Old gaurd as in the posters who were here before some of the current posters. I'd say about a year and a half ago, maybe more, the people who had posted started to leave as the new posters showed up. Nothing to do with mods. Just the regular posters changed.

I agree.  I also think there is more enabling.  Specifically if a reg posts something moderately BSC, there is squeeing and such.  With the OG, there would have been none of that.  They were impartial and put everyone in place, newb or reg. 

I started posting regularly right after some of the regs were like, "GBCK" and didn't really understand what was going on.

Yes! This bothers me as well. If someone posts, I'm feeling bsc! AHHH! Everyone else gets all excited. Not cool. If noobs can't be bsc, regs can't either. I miss the og now.

I came here because I was MOH in a friend's wedding and googling "bridesmaids dresses." This site popped up quickly. I think it was actually awhile before before I found NEY, and when I did I was just curious so I peeked in. The ladies then were hilarious and I just loved "listening in" on them.

I like the new regs too, and it's certainly easier to get started here now than it was then (newbies got torn to sheds easily), but I admit I too miss the old days. Mellow is nice, but NEY doesn't have as much sass and character anymore.

Ah well. It's still fun here, just a different kind of fun

That is interesting that you bring up the change. I only started lurking/posting last December, and I feel like the vibe is definitely different even since then. With very different regs.

I came to TK because I was searching for bridal shower and bachelorette party ideas. I don't recall how I discovered this board, but I remember reading cu97tiger's post about the holidays getting to her and I could totally relate. I've stuck around ever since to stop myself from whining about not being engaged. I never really looked wedding details up before I got engaged, I just whined a lot about not being engaged/married to every one but my guy. Lame-o.

I'm Old Guard and am still lurking around a bit. I agree that I miss the good ol' days of silly posts like Button the Love Baker, Engaugmint Chikkin Cake, Pirate Weddings, Tiara-Wearing Creepers in the Bushes, The Fulcrum, Fake Registry Day, etc etc. That will always be a Golden Age of NEY in my mind. I consider myself lucky to have become more of a reg during that time, and to now be keeping in touch with many of those ladies outside TK.

NEY is definitely more puppies and rainbows and sweet and enabling than it used to be. I feel like the obligatory horrid ol' married hag when I come in and crap on people's rainbows. It's a tough job, but somebody's gotta try and keep up with it. Alas, my REAL job has suddenly turned busy, and I just don't have as much time any more.

But yeah, I too had my BSC moments, and that's how I found TK and NEY. I'm glad I had NEY while I was waiting, and I'm so very thankful for the amazing friends I found here.

OP - I was engaged once before (hooray for near misses!) and some of the boards were fun then. Fast forward several years, the new bf and I got serious, and I turned a little BSC. The OG un-BSC'd me (quickly - I was an easy convert) and then I stayed around for awhile. I was one of the gals known for being a little b*tchy. That's really not who I am - the BS from some of the kittens and rainbows crowd just brought out the worst in me. So I bowed out. Sort of. When I'm having a slow work day I'll pop back in to see who's still around, but I seldom post.

Zip - We just moved - AGAIN! My third move in 18 months - our second together - all of them across multiple states. What are we THINKING? But we're staying put for awhile. We bought a house here. All is well here! How about you?

Wow. Again? Where are you at now? I think I remember that the whole buying a house thing was being a headache for you in some way (and if not we'll just say I'm crazy :P), so I'm glad you now can stay put!

I haven't been up to much.I've been working and battling government regulations when it comes to getting my RVT license, while getting my head on straight so that I feel like I can apply for vet school again. I also got engaged in April (I can't remember if you were around then), but due to various circumstances we haven't been able to plan anything yet, so we're having a *dundundun* long engagement (oh fate. What a catty b*tch you are, making me eat my words to not have a long engagement).

But, most recently, I extracted a dog's teeth completely unsupervised! w00t! It's disturbingly satisfying yanking those suckers out :P (they're actually sitting next to me as I type, taped to a piece of gauze, like a trophy. Vet techs are never creepy )

Zip - We're in CO. Woot! Love it here. And yes, we had some drama in the house hunt. It got easier when we gave up on horse property.

CONGRATS on the engagement! Who cares how long it is - you're still together and you'll still end up married. Of course if you start running color schemes by us for a wedding in 2014, I WILL make fun of you.
