What did you do today?

In the interest of explaining a little bit more about what I do in the air . . . here's what I did this morning (please excuse crappy phone photos):

These are two F-16s off my left wing.  We refueled 20-something of these over western Arizona today.

Here's them on the ground before we took-off so you can see them a bit more detail:

My airplane looks nothing like those about.  We're more like a Southwest jet that's grey and with four engines instead of two.  The KC-135 is still a sexy beast though . . . just not as fast or manueverable as these guys shown above!

Sooo . . . . pictures of what YOU did today?  Please share!!

Re: What did you do today?

  • That's so awesome, Meg!

I would take a pic of me laying on my couch with the excuse that I'm readjusting to east coast time, but my appearance might scare people.

  • wow how amazing!

    Anniversary

  • Why do you refuel them in the air instead of on land?

Did you see the pic I posted the other day of the plane near Tucson? It was practicing for an air show and it was AWESOME.

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • Hi.  My birthday is on Thursday.  I can haz F-16 to drive around?

    Kthnxbai.

Haha!!  Jorja, I LOVE days when I get to lay around the house.  However, I don't think I've had one of those in 2012 yet.

Tiger - I TOTALLY saw that pic - great shot!  And we refuel them in the air because well, that's our job!  I don't mean that as a smartass - just that our mission is air-to-air refueling.  Out here it's just for practice and to help train the student F-16 pilots at Luke but real world, it's to get them across an ocean or across the country or across many countries.  They can't carry enough gas to go those long distances so the Air Force uses air-to-air tankers to extend the "legs" of other aircraft.  Not just F-16s - but pretty much any fighter and most cargo aircraft as well.  War-time, we also provide gas to these guys so they can stay airborne longer for their missions - air to air and air to ground.

Shoes - I wish!!  I've never even gotten a ride in one of them.  I might have been able to this week but I didn't have time to work the organizing of that last week so it didn't happen.  Plus . . . I'm a little chicken of riding in one.  I don't wanna puke!

ETA:  Shoes, what are you doing for your birthday?
  • No pics but I can tell you to picture a lab station and various glass containers, folders and stacks of papers and my head on the surface as I die of boredom.  Yep that's me!  Looks like quite an exciting and detail oriented career.  I've seen videos of in air refueling.  I think its crazy trying to line that all up.
  • Lyn - I totally have a perfect picture of you with your head on your lab counter right now!!  With an exasperated look on your face.  Don't die!!  Think pretty thoughts like paddle-boarding, the EG2G2012 and getting Maui-ed!!!
  • Buggle - are you kidding me?  I love maps!!  Like, in a weird way.  I've pinned all these various diy map projects I want to do on Pinterest.  I just need more time to do them all!

The "maps" we use to fly with are called charts instead.  Maps on the ground/charts in the air.  Silly pilots always have to have something "special."  Wink
  • No big plans yet for my bday.  FI is cooking me dinner...and we're gunna snuggle.  We'll probably get together with some friends this weekend.
  • Buggle - you should totally make a map project for BF!!!  (and hang it over the toilet!)

Shoes - Those sound like great birthday plans!!  Please add in wine and sexy time too!
  • I worked, went grocery shopping, then picked up Jack on the way home.
  • Hulu, will you come do my grocery shopping for me?

<div>I'll admit, Crown was my first love, but Jack has never treated me badly, lol. I can't drink wine, I've just never been able to stomach it. I'm more of a whiskey girl, lol.</div>
  • I found out that CNN is coming to our clinic on Thursday, so I have to actually put on makeup and do my hair, siggghhh.

  • Hulu, how do you feel about tequila?

Stillwell, that's AWESOME!!  Well, about CNN.  Not about having to wear makeup and do your hair if you don't want to.  What are they coming in for?
  • Tequila, she's a vicious beast.  We've had some good times, we've had some bad times.  FMIL loves her tequila shots; she calls them "margarita-no-mix."  I think we'll have to have shot glasses at our wedding specificallly for that.
  • Mmmm tequila is the only thing I care to take shots of.

A shot of patron WITH "training wheels" :)

  • RDR, you never cease to amaze me.  I'm impressed with your tequila-bilities!!
  • I only drink cinnamon whiskey, as you all know.

    awww yiss.
