AW: Who Is Your Biggest Latin Geek?

ME!

I leave TOMORROW to go to a retreat where I will learn how to speak Latin! It is 100% an immersion environment where everyone is speaking and using Latin all the time! I will have books to read in Latin, I will do cooking clean up in Latin, there are dance and yoga classes taught in Latin, it is 100% Latin all the time. I get to learn how to speak it--and learn strategies that I can take back with me to help my kiddos develop more oral Latin in the classroom too.

I am crazy geeked out about it!

Re: AW: Who Is Your Biggest Latin Geek?

  • This sounds so incredibly cool! I hope you have a great time!

    Anniversary

  • Squee! I'm really looking forward to it. Best yet, they say the wine is free flowing at dinner. Wine and Latin = awesome.
  • Wow that is a nice plus.  I'd love something like that but for french!

    Anniversary

  • I found out about the program doing random google searches for latin teacher resources. I'm sure there's a French immersion camp for adults... that includes wine. :)
  • Becunning, that sounds fantastic and awful all at the same time! LOL. I say awful because i am terrible at learning new languages and would get so frustrated.

    I'm excited for you!!
  • It sounds awesome I would probably be so lost. My french skills have declined... so true is the saying if you don't use it you loose it.

    Anniversary

  • I'm a bit worried about being lost too. I've never spoken Latin before, I just read it with a little handy dictionary by my side. They encouraged us, when we get overwhelmed, to announce "sum plena!" (Which means, I'm full, and I love it because sometimes you are FULL and can't hold any more in your brain that day) and take a break from the group activity/go on a walk/whatever to recharge before rejoining the group.

My spanish skills have declined a lot, but I think I would pick more of it back up in a Spanish-rich environment more quickly since I've learned it once. But I already splice my Latin and my Spanish all the time. It's funny because when I try to write Spanish it comes out Latin and when I try to speak Latin it comes out Spanish. I think it's because I associate speaking more with Latin and reading (thus writing) more with Latin.
  • Man, I would love to do something like that for Japanese. You are gonna have such a baller time!!

  • That sounds awesome! Let us know how it goes!

    In vino veritas.

That was the only appropriate Latin I know. It sounds awesome! Have a great time!
  • This sounds like a lot of fun, but would make me so nervous that I would be completely overwhelmed!  Good luck & have fun!

Apparently, the joke at dinner goes, in vino, latinitas. :)

I think you need to write an entire post in Latin because damn that would be cool.
